I have been vacationing in Gulf Shores for several years and absolutely love it; I also owned a condo there for a few years. Hopefully, in the future I will be lucky enough to move there permanently so I have just started checking out Topix for Gulf Shores. After reading some of the posts I am crazy in love with Fast Fred and Give Me A Break! It's obvious from their posts they love their island paradise and are very protective of it....makes me love Gulf Shores even more and want to start packing to move this afternoon. Thanks you two for letting me see yet again how wonderful the GS people are....hopefully one day I can thank you in person.

Yes, I guess we are the 'watch-dogs'. I love good people moving down here and you certainly qualify. Some people vacation at a beach resort area and think that they can 'make it there'. Unfortunately, if you don't bring your money with you, it is very hard to do unless you have a specialty skill that is needed in such an area and which will provide a good salary. I may never meet you but I'm sure you will be a neighbor of mine pretty soon.

Yea, FastFred is fun when you complement him but he turns grumpy as soon as you mention the word 'Obama'. He is still having withdrawal symptoms after the last election but he has 4-years to get over it.

"I'm with Fast Fred on that one."

When you live in the South it is almost impossible to find anyone who is a Democrat and not a Baptist so I understand where you are coming from. A few years ago, you couldn't find a Republican in the South.

Technically, I'm a registered Democrat, but I haven't voted that way for a long time. I'm a conservative and my part of the country is conservative; when the Democrat party became liberal, we all started voting Republican. I grew up Baptist but joined the Methodist Church when I married; I like it better but the upper
echelon has become liberal so I have a bit of a problem with it now. That's why I like the way you and Fast Fred think, you seem to be rather conservative also.

Yes, I'm conservative by nature. I spent almost my whole life as a registered Republican and it wasn't until the 1st Bush ran against Clinton that I voted for a Democrat because I was disappointed that Bush spent all of his time on foreign matters and did nothing to help our domestic problems. I voted for Clinton again and then I voted twice for George W. Bush and became very disappointed in how he conducted affairs in his 2nd term. I have voted for Obama twice because I am concerned that the Middle Class is not getting a fair shake and the very rich are able to shelter too much of their money in comparison to the Middle Class. Yes, as a Conservative, I am against run-away social programs which have been with us during administrations of both parties. I am for trying to keep insurance companies from running the show as they have done at our expense and am more than willing to see Obamacare, Social Security and Medicare tweaked to make them better but I don't want to throw out the baby in all of these programs with the bath water. I want Government costs reduced because I hate the waste I see reported everyday and I am willing to accept a balanced approach to resolving our National Debt. That is my nutshell.

You are a Left Wing fruit cake, have you been watching or reading any news lately ? Health Insurance rates are higher now than ever and they are going to get much higher, the taxes that have been implemented on health care Devices and Industries is breaking there backs, the industry is laying off people, a hospital in Pennsylvania has stop delivering Babies because of costs that have been implemented by obama care, it's just begun, this is just a sample of what's to come.

Well, I agree with most of what you just wrote, but I could not vote for Obama; I wasn't crazy about McCain but I felt he at least had somewhat of a background that qualified him to be potus. And this last time, Obama just flat-out scared me with his "change" and now we're trying to hang on to our rights, etc. I'm nostalgic for the innocence and morality of years past. I grew up in the 50's and 60's and it was so nice; kids were still respectful, folks looked out for each other, the government was out of our business more so than it is now, we could still say God without someone screaming and yelling.....I could go on and on.....I miss all of that.

Oh my, now we have FastFred off an running again. He thinks that if it would not be for Obama that insurance rates would never have risen a dime in his lifetime. He seems to forget that before Obamacare, health insurance was rising so much that more and more businesses had to cut back on insuring their employees--I was one of them so I speak from experience. Now that businesses are continuing to cut back on insuring their employees, everyone wants to blame Obama. Well, let's see what happens as the full Obamacare program is put into action. What was, was unacceptable or there would never have been any reason to even think about a national healthcare system. All I ever heard before Obamacare was 'your insurance company is coming between you and your doctor'. Now, all I hear is 'the Government is coming between you and your doctor'. So, pick who you want to come between you and your doctor and hope for the best.

Ok, guys, time out....change of subject...I have a question. I'm coming down for a week the last part of April and thinking about bringing my golf clubs. Since it will probably be just me, will I be able to play a round of golf by myself or do they require at least 2 or 3 more players? And, if they're ok with that, which course should I play?...I know nothing about any of them.
