Heading to gulf shores in about a week was wondering how the water is and if there's a lot of jelly fish in the water this time of year?

There were several at the beginning of the week but they seem to be gone now. The beach is windy but the weather is great for getting some sun. Not safe to get in the water because of rip currents, I've been coming down here for several years and have never seen it like this. From what I've been told it's caused by the hurricane that hit Mexico a few days ago. LOTS of nice seashells are washing up. Best part is the roads, restaurants, and beaches aren't crowded at all. PS, Diamond Jim and Ms Donnas on Canal Rd in Orange Beach has the best steak around.

Thanks for the info. Have lived here for several years and have never heard of "Diamond Jim and Ms Donnas on Canal Rd in Orange Beach has the best steak around." There are so many places coming and going to eat at that even the locals will never discover them all and if they do, they won't live long enough to check all of them out.

You'd like them if you like steak. You and FastFred should meet up for supper there lol. I know what you mean about the restaurants not lasting long. I live in a tourist town myself and it's the exact same way there. They've only been open for a few months from what I was told. I'm one of those who doesn't mind to travel a bit off the beaten path to try a different place. The mom and pop places are usually alot better than the chain type places. Aaron, there were quite a few jellyfish washing up today. The biggest problem is still the dangerous rip currents. The red flags have been up all week. If collecting sea shells is your thing then you'd have a blast because there are a bunch washing up.

It's bad enough that I have to read FastFred constantly calling Obama a Muslim, Socialist, Communist and worse, without sitting across the table from him.

No worries, I'd be a moderator for you two. You'd end up buying me a steak just so I would eat and not talk though. I'd probably agree with you on half the things and him the other half. I could explain my conservative libertarian beliefs and maybe convert both of you.

Oh, another Ron Paul? A Libertarian is an Anarchist who doesn't want to come out of the closet just as an Agnostic is an Atheist who does not want to come out of the closet. Be bold--just say that you don't want any government--that is what a true Libertarian is once they take their clothes off.

Yeah, another Ron Paul. I don't want a socialist (aka democrat with their clothes off) government telling me when I can and can't fart and then imposing a tax that varies in amount depending on how bad the fart smells. I won't say that I don't want any government but I will say that I want limited government. I'm a very strong supporter of leaving most decisions up to the voters and elected representatives of each state to decide, like the issues of gay marriage and the so called affordable care act. The only functions of the federal government should be to provide a military (for foreign enemies, not domestic) and to maintain a reasonable uniformity in education standards. We can discuss politics or we can get back to discussing jelly fish, it's up to you. But I promise you that you don't want to start a political argument with me.

"But I promise you that you don't want to start a political argument with me."

Is that a threat or a promise? Most Libertarian's definition of "limited" government is "no government". I've listened to lots of Ron Paul's debates and interviews and everytime he says that one program or one government department should be eliminated and the interviewer follows up by asking him a logical question about what would happen if such and such a department were abolished, Ron comes back with a 'well, I'm not saying that we should do away with the whole thing'. Apparently, Libertarians come in many colors just like Liberals and Conservatives.
"I'm a very strong supporter of leaving most decisions up to the voters"
So am I and I have noticed that the Libertarian segment of voters has always been in the extreme minority and remains a fringe element among voters so that should tell you something. I was on the staff of two United States Senators and majored in Government and Politics in college so I am not afraid to start a political argument with anyone--especially one steeped in the Southern Holy-Roller Bible-Belt culture. You want a piece of me? Bring it on just like FastFred is not afraid to do.

Jelly fish were terrible on Monday and Tuesday when the weather was rainy. No Reds at the point.
Water cleared up and the sun was shinning all day today. Did not see the jellie fish today. Fished the surf withy life jacket on. Wish I had seen that red flag. There was a strong undertow if you lost your footing! Have a nice day. God is still on the throne!

The rip currents were the worst I've ever seen when I was there last week. I didn't get to do any fishing but I ate my fair share of fish. If it wasn't for the fact that I am loaded with work I would head back down there next month and get in on the red snapper action.
