An equal dose of disappointment should be with the school committee and their continuing ineffectiveness in dealing with their employees. Paul Georges, like him or not, is simply doing the job he was hired to do - negotiate the best deal for the people he represents. Why the school committee doesn't hire a negotiator simply defies logic. Their inability to reach any sort of agreement with the teachers union and the way they rolled over and played dead for Kevin Murphy and the assistant superintendants would have gotten them fired if they were overseeing a private enterprise. Enough of the foolish grandstanding, the contrived concern for taxpayers and the same old rants from the Lowell Sun editorial staff. Demand accountability. If you can't come up with a simple agreement with your employees then step aside and find someone who can.

As a long time advocate for Lowell's public school system and it's teachers, to say I'm disappointed is an understatement. All the teachers I know personally have always told me that they vote for the students and not with Paul Georges. Well it looks like I've been had. I simply cannot fathom that these so called professional educators cannot see past their own paycheck and look at reality. It's the economy stupid! Noone wants to lay off teachers but when you as a group are not willing to cooperate, you leave the government with no other choice. I'm sick of hearing about how hard it is for the teachers. Let's remember how hard it is for all the parents who have been laid-off or taken pay cuts and still have to pay the bills that are rising and rising. Teachers of Lowell, pull your head out of the sand and think about someone other than youselves.

I have been asked and expected to attend the recent city council sessions to support the school budget. Well, I have decided not to support the teachers if they are unwilling to support my children. I'm tired of giving to the teachers when all they want to do is take, take, take. Fight your own battles. I'm too busy fighting to survive.
