You're right, Curious. I remember this event happening but over the years, I forgot most of the things about it. Two or three years ago it came to mind again, and I started surfing the net trying to find out more information about it. For two years I couldn't find anything and then I found this Bolivar site. I have received more information from the people that have responded than I could have imagined.
I saw an article from a web site that Not posted earlier regarding the incident. A woman named Betty Graves left the cabin just before it happened, and she said there were two other people outside the cabin when she left. If anybody knows her, maybe they could her about the incident.
It's just amazing that there is no more information on this incident than there is. I'm becoming almost as curious about the lack of available information as I am about the incident itself.

Instead of relying on half truths on this
website, you should research the old fashioned way. Go to the Bolivar library and review the archived editions of the bolivar bulletin. Then do the same thing in Jackson with the Jackson Sun. All the court records are public, so you can find those at the courthouse. DH was sentenced in federal court. Those records would be in Jackson or Memphis.

TSG, if it were convenient for me to go to those places, I would have already done so. If I ever get a chance to be near Bolivar or Jackson, I'll do that very thing. Until then, I have to rely on the most convenient method, regardless of the accuracy.

I have the Bolivar Bulletin articles about the fire, investigation, arrests, and federal indictments in a PDF file. I can email those to you.

Donald Ray was also my uncle. I can say that I never liked Dennis, seemed like a real jerk. And yes I, along with many others in my family, have always thought Dennis had something to do with the wreck.

I read somewhere that when Dennis Harris copped his plea in the hunting club murders that he confessed to the murder of some man some time before the hunting club murders. Maybe it was Donald Ray Collins.
No, i never heard this and am pretty sure this isn't true. 99.9% sure

I am Jessica Howell. My dad was Jimmy Howell. I have often thought about visiting Dennis Harris in prison and telling him just what a piece of shit he is and how much pain he has caused me in my lifetime but I don't think I could even look at him without pouring gasoline on him and burning him to death!!! I am 20 years old now and have a beautiful baby girl and I know my dad would have been very proud of me! Too bad some low life scum had to take him away from me. Last I heard Jammy Adams got 20 years which means he would have gotten out of prison when I turned 20. He was up for parole a couple of years ago but me and my mom sent in a letter telling them not to let him out and he was denied. I don't really know much about anyone else that had anything to do with it but they will ALL get what they deserve in the end.
Jessica, Sorry you had to live without your Dad and your baby will nevery know her Grandpaw. That's truly sad and should never have happened. You know, I remember this incident well, and I was always told that Gary Poole had just left the cabin when all this happened. Was told he has even boasted to the fact. Why was he never investigated?

I have known the Greene family for years and remember this horrific tragedy well. It should never have happened. Was just served? I don't think so. Were more people involved? Possibly. Will we ever know for sure? Doubtful. But God bless the families of the victims and the members that will never see their loved ones. You were dealt a hand that was unjust and unfair.

And till the day I die I will believe that Harris was the one that killed Donald Ray Collins. A guy I can't remember his name said he saw Harris run Donald off the road that night. My uncle was at the Boat Dock that night and he said Donald and Dennis got into it and when Donald left Dennis took off after him. It wasnt a year later he killed those men. I will go to my grave thinking he got away with murder that night. He is a real POS
Yeah Mr Duncan we were both friends with his son at the time and I've never seen as many guns in my life. How u been brother? Haven't seen u in forever

In March of 1992, there was a poker game in a cabin in Hardeman County. A man named Dennis Harris lost big in the game and apparently didn't want to tell his wife about it, so he and his nephew went back to the game, and he shot and killed Ted Greene when he went back in. Then he and his nephew tied up all the other players, took all the money and set the cabin on fire, burning the other five men alive. I think Harris' wife hid the money they stole, which made her an accessory.
Plea bargains kept anybody from getting the death penalty. The wife is out, the nephew is eligible for parole and Harris is doing life without.
dennis harris wife was there the night it happened she went to the end of the road to see if you could see the smoke she went to prison too and is out and apparently lives on peavine road .all i got to say is if she crosse my path she better watch out

I didn't know his wife was there, too. Why didn't they get her for murder? She should have gotten a longer sentence. How can she show her face in that area again after participating in such a crime?

I remember when this happened. Our mailman always gave my boys candy when he came by. I had heard he had been there. I cried and was so afraid he was dead. But he wasn't!!!!! I could have hugged and kissed him when I went to the POffice to see if he was there. So so tragic! I graduated with Ted's wife. I could not believe a person could be so evil!!!! Now we have the Bain's family missing. 2 bodies were found today in Mississippi.....so terrible!!!!!

Note: it was a shame Harris wasn't brought in and then this would never have happened. I didn't know about this info.

One rumor about this incident was that Joe Robinson and Paul Nelms left that game less than an hour before the shooting/burning happened. Hard to believe that happened 20 years ago.

They may have been the two people that Betty Graves referred to in her interview. She said that she and Kenneth Derrick left just after 1:00 A.M., and there were six people still in the clubhouse and two people outside the clubhouse. She didn't mention the names of the two people outside.

It's fascinating to read into the skeletons in the closet of some of these small southern towns. What a horrible crime.. Especially considering it was kept under wraps so much
