So much for the U.S. looking out for the elderly. No inflation in costs from last year seems to be the reason people receiving S.S. benefits won't be getting a cost of living raise in 2010. Obama is, however, considering a one-time $250. to those people but doesn't know where the money would come from.

Glenn Beck passed out the other day over this same issue, wondering where is the government getting all these ideas to help the country. Giving old people 250 makes the government and walmart and jewel stock go up.

Since those on S.S. won't be getting a cost of living increase next year and the same people are totally against the $500B being cut from Medicare Obama is attempting to appease them with the one-time check of $250.00. It's a bribe to get them on HIS side. What good is $250.00 going to do if their medical benefits are CUT? Plus most will not SPEND that money, they'll stick it in the bank.

If the cost of living has gone down since last year why would the SSA increase benefits? Blame falling consumer prices. By law, cost of living adjustments are pegged to inflation, which is negative this year, the government said Thursday, because of lower energy costs. Social Security payments do not go down, even when prices drop. The Obama administration, meanwhile, is pursuing a different way to boost recipients' income. On Wednesday, President Barack Obama called for a second round of $250 stimulus payments for seniors, veterans, retired railroad workers and people with disabilities.
The payments would match the ones issued to seniors earlier this year as part of the government's economic recovery package. The payments would be equal to about a 2 per cent increase for the average Social Security recipient.
Social Security payments increased by 5.8 per cent in January, the largest bump up since 1982. The big increase was largely because of a spike in energy costs in 2008.

The big increase was largely because of a spike in energy costs in 2008. The first $250.00 was part of the stimulus package. They wanted the people to run out and spend the money. I would guess 95% of the people that got those checks put them right into their savings accounts. It is understood that no cost of living raises are warranted because the cost of living has not increased. This is the first time in 34 years there has not been a cost of living increase. I would be willing to bet that their Medicare premiums will go UP and for more than the $20.00 a month that the $250.00 averages out to be. I'll bet those who are receiving benefits now will find their monthly benefits starting next year will have DECREASED! I'll also bet the $250.00 will in no way change the opinions of the elderly who are dead set against the Obama health plan.

But, I also believe that the elderly are not stupid and can see right though Obama. I have faith in them to not be fooled again by all of his promises of hope and change.

They say there will be no COLA next year for SS recipients, but so far I haven't heard a single word about Medicare premiums. I have a neighbor that says the increase in her Medicare premium takes almost half of the COLA she receives each year. She's worried that if she gets no COLA and her Medicare premiums go up she's going to be getting LESS each month next year that she's getting now. She also said Obama can take the $250.00 and stick it where the sun don't shine! LOL

just saw Capitalism .. Moore's a man of the people, modern day Thomas Payne .. interesting Thomas Jeffersons quote on Banking institutions .. also, many would be surprised to know that some of the largest corporations take out life insurance policies (call them peasant policies) on employees with the company named as the beneficiary .. betting on the employee dying in a younger age range .. the employee has no clue as to all of this
