Will County GOP wants to replace coroner post

Republican members of the Will County Board want death investigations handled by a medical examiner instead of a coroner.

Interesting... I never knew there was a difference between a coroner and a medical examiner.

Why would towns use coroners instead of medical examiners in the first place?

I think a Medical Examiner is a Physician that is appointed by the Government.(Local, State, Etc) That has the expertise to determine whether a death was an accident or foul play. They have more training. I also would suspect, that it would cost more for the County to hire a Medical Examiner.

I think a Coronor is more like an undertaker and not as versed as the Medical Examiner.(who is a Physician)( I hope I'm right on this..not that sure) I suspect that the Coroner works at the Pleasure of the County,(And we all know what that means) and does not have to abide with any outside rulings or requirements. For instance, If a Mayor says to a Coronor, "Rule this Death as an Accident..Lets rap this thing up in a hurry"...and that Mayor is a Friend of Drew's and favors are done back and forth,..the Coronor listens". Something like that..hmmmm Ya think?

That would not work that way with a Medical Examiner. Ya think Will County would want to pay for a Medical Examiner? I hope so.
