I read this article in hopes that the writer might shed some compassion to what my hometown has gone through in the past few years, but was hugely mistaken.
Iím proud of my town and yes, I'll admit, we've gone through several tragedies in the past few years, but that is no reason for the media to bash us even further. There are a lot of good folks who live in this town and this article made EVERY ONE OF US look as if we were criminals. Our town is NOT cursed, people DONT sit on their porches with firearms in fear of their safety, and we are NOT ashamed to call Weleetka home. I am a proud Weleetka High School Alum (class of 2006!), and I moved off to attend college and after graduation I chose to return to my hometown.
The tragic incident of the two little girls didn't even happen in Weleetka. The girls didn't go to school in Weleekka, nor did either of the families associate with the town. Yet the media continues to point out how terrible of a place Weleetka is.
This article was terribly researched and is the most ridiculous news piece I've ever read. Weleetka is NOTHING like this article makes it out to be.

I totally agree with Kyle H!! I have lived here my whole life and have never set on the front porch with a pistol to watch my grandkids play!!! There are alot of good people in this town and we are proud of this town! I know pretty much everyone who lives here and have never heard of the lil girls (or their families) till that tragedy happened.(I pray for them everyday that they find peace and find the killers) BUT the killer might be from ur hometown Mr. News article writer!!:) so be careful what u say! If you are not here to help us then stay away! We r proud to call Weleetka Ok home!

Overgrown weeds on main street? yes. Drug problem? Nation wide. However, I have lived there for 20 years and we finally have a good police department. Our water has improved and is rarely off. Alcoholic mayor? Get your facts straight. It seems like the people in Weleetka that set around and gripe the most are the most inactive in our community. If you hate Weleetka so much try helping to make improvements or get out! just my opinion

Hi, my grandmother was born in Waleetka, and I was just looking around if I could find letter she and her sister recently got published in your paper. They are trying to find out more information about their family.... I have to ask what is a "kelough"... Im out here in California, and I have never heard that term before

idk y u would bash this town. if u dont like it u dont have to stay. our mayor isnt an alcoholic n yea our town may be in debt but the towns people arent to blame. as for the police department, they do the best they can with the resources we have and they do a pretty good job at it. they aren't to blame for the drugs, tey keep most f that out of here. i know cuz i work there. as for bashing the keloughs u have serious issues to do that. not everyone is perfect and neither are u. dont talk bad about a town u live, if u dont like it then leave. i for one am proud to live here regardless of the situation.

Lmao, yall are hilarious, I was raised myself in Weleetka as a child my mom worked@ the nursing home,I would go& visit the folks in the nursing home, I know the Kelough's too& used to ride my bike with Tony across town& we would even get into the creeks looking for crawdads, I would've never guessed he would turn out they way everybody says he is WOW. As for the town it is badly run down, i went through there not too long ago&it blew me away i couldn't believe it. There used to be nice landscaping on the sidewalks, JB Grocery Store, Mcloud Tile, Downtown Grocery, E-Z Mart, The Dairy Bar, The Round Up, Keck's, what in the hell happened there it looks like a GHOST TOWN. By no means am i blaming the town for whatever happens cause crime is indeed everywhere you go, BUT G's come on you can't say that town is in good shape& that it don't look like a bunch of druggies live there. Appearance & Cleanliness says ALOT !
