Mr. Woodruff or ASATF, this was not in quotes in the article but I assume you said it: "A person can openly carry in most places, except in a bank, bar, jail or prison, a school and other places."
.
There is no law against carrying a firearm openly in a bank in New Mexico. There is no federal law that prohibits carrying a firearm in a bank. If you have a carry permit, you can carry your gun concealed in your bank. The bank tellers usually prefer it that way.
.
BTW there are a lot of times a person under age 19 can carry a handgun. That law has several exceptions.
.
ASATF, you failed on this one. You need to study up on the subject matter you want to teach before you spread any more false information.

"A gun is only as bad as the person using it," he said. "There is no such thing as a good gun or a bad gun. It's all about who operates it."

Can we all agree then that humanity, on balance, is overwhelmingly good?

If only everybody over the age of 18 would strap on a gun, wouldn't Alamogordo become quite the utopia. Imagine a trip to Walmart if this were to be reality. Gives you a nice secure warm fuzzy knowing that everybody would be loaded for bear. All disagreements could be settled the old fashioned way. Oh! my mistake, this would be utopia
where there are no disagreements.
For the record, I own firearms,I grew up around firearms. The last thing this country needs is more people carrying firearms.

I suggest that bad people wear a black hat and good people wear a white hat while carrying their weapons. That way unarmed people can be safe in the knowledge that they are safe or not.

My problem with the gun nuts is that I never hear them mention or discuss the first words of the second amendment: A WELL REGULATED MILITIA, being necessary to the security...so I have no respect for anything they have to say. And I took my son to hunters' safety classes and my spouse graduated from the gunsmith school in Lakewood Colorado, so I have been around gun enthusiasts all my life.

Yet you can't parse a sentence properly. The prefactory clause (the part about the militia) indicates A reason for the right. It does not limit the right for ONLY that purpose.

The MILITIA was every able bodied male at that time.

The US Supreme Court in "Heller" acknowledged the individual right.

You may have been around gun owners, but you haven't learned anything from the.

You are correct, Mr. Woodruff did not say that. That is why it is not in quotes. Those are the reporters words.

So that would make your spouse one of those gun nuts. What a fruitcake. You also need to go back and read the second amendment. There is more to it than you would like everyone to believe.

Gun control is nothing more than "people control." Polititians can pass all the laws they want, but still the lawless will not obey the laws! We as home and property owners need, and have, the right to protect ourselves and family. And as crime becomes more rampant, laws should be directed at the criminals, NOT THE LAW ABIDING CITIZEN! We need to arm our law abiding citizens, not disarm them! The right to keep and bear arms was not granted by the founding fathers, the founding fathers of this country AFFIRMED it in writing the second ammendment, because it was a preexisting, God given right for a person to be able to defend him or herself. If you are against personal ownership of guns and expect America to remain free, then you are truly the very definition of a fool. A quote from Adolf Hitler, 1935: "This year will go down in history. For the first time, a civilized nation has full gun registration! Our streets will be safer, our police more efficient, and the world will follow our lead into the future."
In 1929 the Soviet Union established gun control. From 1929 to 1953, approximately 20 million dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
In 1911, Turkey established gun control. From 1915-1917, 1.5 million Armenians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
Germany established gun control in 1938 and from 1939 to 1945, 13 million Jews, gypsies, homosexuals, the mentally ill, and others, who were unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
China established gun control in 1935. From 1948 to 1952, 20 million political dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
Guatemala established gun control in 1964. From 1964 to 1981, 100,000 Mayan Indians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
Uganda established gun control in 1970. From 1971 to 1979, 300,000 Christians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
Cambodia established gun control in 1956. From 1975 to 1977, one million "educated" people, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
That places total victims who lost their lives because of gun control at approximately 56 million in the last century. Since we should learn from the mistakes of history, the next time someone talks in favor of gun control, find out which group of citizens they wish to have exterminated.

The Supreme Court has found that the Second Amendment is an individual citizen's right and is in not limmited to the state or to any militia.

Try to read up a little bit before you ass-ume. It was the Washington DC case last year.

You have got to change your name to something besides "Proud American". I just cannot picture you as a proud American. You have no clue when it comes to understanding the Constitution and the peoples rights. Big government control or what I call socialism is high on you agenda and I know this just by reading your past posts. You are one left-wing radical liberal. Not a Proud American.

I am astonisehd at the responses. People have been carrying guns since Frontier Days. Noone frowned upon them or gave them a hard time. In fact, people felt safer with "cowboys" and "lawmen" around. Even with all the laws placed upon us, criminal activity has increased, not decreased. If they were to make it law that private citizens turn their guns in, we would be left to the mercies of thieves and murderers. Do you honestly believe THEY would turn in their illegal or legal firarms? What this Taskforce is trying to do is EDUCATE people on the LAWS and on how to properly use a gun. What is wrong with that? Would you rather have a bunch of uneducated people carrying guns or educated? Get Real! There are more incidences in the news of Police, Military, and Criminals misusing firearms, than of the average citizen.
