Always the same. Always a car making a left turn across the motorcycle's path. Will motorists ever acknowledge that they have to share the road? You'd have to be crazy to ride a bike around here with all of these distracted, self-absorbed drivers on the road.

"A motorcyclist who may have run a red light was killed late Thursday night when his bike collided with a car making a left turn from Jericho Turnpike to Roslyn Road in Mineola, Nassau police said." It's always the same score: Car 1, motorcycle 0 How many more must die until motorcycles are banned from being street legal. I know what a lot of you bike enthusiasts are giong to say. That the majority of you follow traffic regulations and it's the minority who are these speed demons looking to die by driving in an unsafe manner. If you want to take your chances on a two-wheeled vehicle in a game featuring an ever growing population of SUV players, be my guest. Just don't come running to the rest of us for assistance when you lose 1-0 to four wheels and 2-3 tons of steel.

The motorcycle ran a red light (typical crotch-rocket behavior).

If Mr. Motorcycle man was blowing red lights, perhaps he was going at a higher rate of speed than he should have been going. That would be a significant contribution to the accident. It doesn't matter if you are in a car or on a motorcycle, you have to always operate your vehicle with the knowledge that you are surrounded by people that don't know how to drive and take measures to avoid them. Maybe Ms. Car driver judged Mr. Motorcycle's speed incorrectly, but if Mr. Motorcycle stopped at the red light he supposedly blew through, he'd probably be here today.

I drive several thousand miles for work each month. It's a very rare occasion that I see motorcycle riders behaving in a safe and legal manner. Most of the time, I'm getting passed by them on the LIE as they go between cars in non-existent lanes...even when they have passengers riding with them! I'm usually getting passed by them like I'm standing still. More than once I've been the car trying to make the left only to find that a motorcycle traveling a very high rate of speed suddenly appears. How about the riders who like to "draft" my SUV by riding way too close even on congested roads. I share the road to the best of my ability with motorcycle riders, but more often than not they have no regard for their own safety and I can't grow eyes in the back of my head.

I missed seeing the crash by what had to be only a couple of minutes (thankfully). When I drove through the intersection, there were dozens of people standing around the body and staring from several feet away and cop cars pulling up. Other people were running in from different directions screaming. Glass and car parts everywhere and more damage to the vehicle than anything I could have ever imagined. I'm amazed that the driver of the car is ok.
I feel the same way as most of you, that motorcyclists drive too dangerously. But let me tell you - when you see what I and many others saw in person it's just absolutely jarring. I don't know how our police and EMT's handle dealing with these sights every day. My heart goes out to them and to the families involved.

I saw this accident right after it happened, before the cops even got there. The car was so destroyed it looked like it was hit by a truck. The motorcyclist was still lying in the middle of Jericho Tpke. My heart goes out to both families.

Motorcycle will always lose in a crash with a car. Hard to generalize, but most of the cycles I see driven are done so at speeds always in excess of posted limits and they seem to revel in weaving in and out and creating their own lanes in traffic. I dont know if this guy ran a red light or not, bottom line is he's dead either way.

Another left turn in front of a motorcycle. When in doubt the motorcycle is wrong. I just get confused because I've been driving 44 years and back when I learned to drive the driver making the left turn had to wait till oncoming traffic was clear. Something must have changed because now every time I hear about a motorcycle hitting a left turning car it's the motorcycle's fault. It says he may have run a red light. If he did then the light would have been red for her also no? He was 35 she was 20. Does that ring a bell for anyone? But no, It's always the motercycle. No charges were filed. Way to go Nassau PD

As long as the 4whl vehicle driver has a subconcious feeling of superior crashworthiness, he will most always make that left in front of a motorcycle. Why? very simple, one of the two will be able to leave the scene without a scratch, while the other will go either to the hospital, or the morgue. Human nature is what it is.

I was at the scene shortly after the accident. I have never witnessed such an erie silence as I did stading there last night. There is nothing scarier than coming across and accident scence and seeing a motorcyle down. My heart goes out to his family...and the poor girl that is going to have to live with that for the rest of her life.

if in fact the motorcycle did run the light then yes- his fault completely.
but as a motorcyclist, cars NEVER pay attention to us. i took a saftey course in order to get my motorcycle endorsment and i think everyone should take a course reguardless if they wanna ride or not, b/c now driving in a car i notice bikes more and more b/c now i know what to look for. ppl driving cars need to be more careful of ppl on bikes!!!
PLAIN AND SIMPLE!

"Motorcyclist struck dead in collision with car."
More wordy, clumsy, awkward, and ghettoized headlines from Newsday. "Struck dead"? Jeez, that's awful. How about "Motorcyclist killed in accident"?
Is Newsday getting cheap foreign labor to do its writing? Or is it just hiring a bunch of illiterates who write things like "struck dead" and "gone missing"? I'd love to meet the editor.
