Last night in city council meeting, the proposal was bought before the council to open the "Dream Center" in the old condemned nursing home in Bogata. The purpose of the center is to rehabilitate drug addicts on a faith basis. No security bars, no security guasrds and no security fencing. They are free to come and go as they please apparently. There will be approximately 100 from the 7 county area. I certainly don't want to see this take place and I think all citizens of Bogata should get behind the council to stop this NOW. Not only does it put us at risk, but in my opinion, it would also attract more drug dealers to sell to them. Don't need this as we have enogh of them now.
The founders of the "Dream Center Bogata" tried for over 2 years to get it in Paris and failed. Now thery want to come here. Why did it fail in Paris????

I know the Bogata City council will NOT allow this. This would be a HUGE mistake! I cannot even believe it was discussed. I hope if this is allowed? The city will have plenty of insurance for the law suits that will follow. Good grief some people will try anything to take advantage of the good people of Bogata. I trust NOTHING that says it is "faith based", while dealing with drug addicts. This will bring crime, and possibly death if allowed. This idiot trying to get this in Bogata? Does not know the good citizens of Bogata are smarter than he appears to be. Mayor Lum, and City council members hang tough, and please do not give in to this horrible plan. Oh, and BTW, if allowed it WILL raise your taxes. That you can count on, and maybe your own children will be exposed to these addicts. Think long, and hard folks.

I have a gran-son that goes to Rivercrest and has more than enough exposure to drugs. This drug rehab unit will only place more hardship on our families, police dept which is very small and our school. If some of these drug dependent clients are of school age and required to be in school they will be living in our school district. Please good people of Bogata review the contract
and the requirement this Dream Team has to meet.
Meet with other city council members in the cities that have dealt with such programs as this Dream Team.

Brenda, You are so right, It also will become a haven for the drug dealers already in Bogata. I cannot believe anyone in their right mind would even consider this stupid move. I can tell you this much? Most of the City council members are very against this. I would be very concerned if I had a kid in school.

I'm wondering if the rumors are true that Mayor Lum is for this? Please say it isn't so. If true? I'm very disappointed in Mayor Lum, as I thought he had more sense than to think this is a good idea. It will cost Bogata more than just money if allowed. If such a great idea? Why did Paris turn it down. Mayor Lum better be concerned about the water in Bogata. My understanding is the tanks are rusted, and a new well needs to be drilled.

If so? The city needs to get their priorites straight. Many in Bogata now cannot drink their water, and why has the cost of water gone sky high? That should tell the citizens that something is wrong. My Brother's bill was over 80 dollars, and that's with the recent rains. How in the world are the elderly on fixed incomes able to afford the increase?

I guess the old nursing home just needs to set and fall in like other buildings around town and besides people dont go to rehibilitaion centers to be get over an addiction they go to sneak out and steal.

Tell me if I'm mistaken, but wasn't that Nursing home sold knowing there was a major hwy going to run past the front door? Who in Bogata thought they were doing someone a favor?

I live in bogata and i dont have a problem with the center. I figure if they put it here it might make a few more jobs and help some people in the process. After all, if you dont bring in some business bogata will be like all the other little dying towns.I seriously dont think drug pushers are going to move into town to sell to people that are trying to get over an addiction. And for the water, my bill is way to high but i can drink it(I had it tested)but i still filter it.

Miss Kitty, yes Mayor Lum seems to be in favor of the rehab center. Cant understand why, the man said that all jobs would be volenteers. no one in Bogata wants this. The man seems to be determined.

Bogata started drying up when the school left. No you really don't want this type of business in Bogata, and if you had children in the school system there? You just might have a different opinion. Also, that is just nonsense about more jobs. These people have their own volunteers, and plan hire no one. Mayor Lum needs to realize the citizens of Bogata DO NOT WANT THIS!. The most important issue should be the water situation. The storage tanks are in poor shape, and we need another clean well drilled. Please lets get the priorities in the correct order.

Mayor Lum needs to explain why this center would be a plus for Bogata. I cannot come up with any.

I have lived next to a rehab center, and yes it brings in a huge crimminal population. Also there would be no security to monitor those drying out from the drugs. Please city council show more responsibility to the citizens. Unlike Mayor Lum appears not to be doing. Is this center putting money into someones pocket?

Also if it is such a great business for Bogata? Why then did Paris turn them down? Can you answer that? I can. They are smart enough to realize the bad outweighs the good concerning this type of place. It will not bring in revenue, and it will bring in more drugs. That is just NOT what Bogata needs. They have enough drug pushers to deal with, and why would we supply the pushers with the drug abusers trying to dry out in this so called rehab?

I have Nephews in grade school, and High school, and I disagree greatly with you. How long have you lived in Bogata? I don't believe it's being selfish in protecting your children from God only knows what kind of criminal they may be housing. What if drugs are not the only crime these people have commited? How about a pedophile on drugs? How about a rapist on drugs? How about a thief on drugs, oh and I know druggies are not thieves right? LOL!

How about your at work, and no one is home, and one of these sick people leave the unsecure center, and break into your home for anything, and everything to purchase more drugs? You're not thinking rationally, or with one bit of common sense. I'm a retired Nurse, and I do know what drug addicts are capable of doing to anyone if desperate enough for a fix.. Jeez! Get real please. If you think it's such a great Idea? Go to the poll, and see how the rest of Bogata Citizens feel.

i completely agree with you.. people want to talk about how they are nice supportive citizens in this town but they can't help a stranger? have they ever thought that maybe one of those people in there have lost everything and just want a new start.. no they havent, because they dont know what its like not to have anything. they dont know what its like to have only drugs to depend on to get you through the day. they dont know what its like to just want something to just disappear so bad.. i do. i understand these people completely and all they want is a second chance. the ones that dont, well maybe they just need someone to open up to, to trust...
so really think about this. are we looking like a stuck-up better than thou town? is that how we want people to see us? or are we a caring supportive good-hearted community? i think thats what we should be.
if you still dont see why we should support them or where im coming from, sit down and ill tell you a few stories from my life with drugs that i have seen make grown men cry..

Destini, You are so very right, and that was an excellent response. I also was raised around folks who drank, and did drugs, and it's not an easy existence. When drugs takeover your life, or the life of those you love? That's a hard way of living for children to deal with. We all have vices, and just because you cannot see someones vice doesn't mean they don't have any. You sound like a very bright young Lady Destini. What many people don't realize? If someone in your Family has a drug, or alcohol problem? That whole family has the problem.

Destini, hang in there, and remember what doesn't kill you? Just makes you stronger. I too was raised around alcohol, and drugs. Also, I know what it's like to be very poor. That just makes you more determined to work towards a better
future.

You sound like a very smart young Lady who will not allow drugs to be a part of your life, or to ever allow them to mess up your future. I do know your background, and what you've had to endure, and you're a very strong, and wise young Lady. It's tough for us to learn the hard way, but it's more successful when you learn that way! Stay strong Destini, and your wisdom will carry you far! Best wishes towards the future for a very smart, and beautiful person!

Destini, There are better businesses to establish in Bogata than a drug rehab center. We need to get the drugs out of Bogata, and not set up a refuge for further use. You sound like a wise young woman, but you're very misguided about this, and maybe with age you'll realize this is not a good thing for Bogata.
