Fewer non-Hispanic whites moving to Florida, census data show

I remember first moving to S fl and shown all of the neighborhoods that where once "white" and "nice". People moved out and neighborhood deterioated. I think the same is going on in FL. The white affluent move out and the result? Just like it always is. Rundown, dirty and cheap. That'll be FL soon. Way to go Libs. Just want you wanted. Keep this up and the affluent will be moving out of the country.

Some of these posts are just good comedy. I wonder if these people who ran off to North Carolina because they couldn't stand latinos realize that for much of this decade the state with the greatest percentage increase in hispanics is North Carolina. As for those that ran off to Central/Northern Florida, "y'all" only 2 steps behind us, if that. 20 years from now there will be nowhere left to run in this country, and South Florida will STILL have better weather and prettier water.

Blake- what you don't understand is the BIG difference between TODAYS immigrant and the immigrants of the 1600's. It's all about ATTITUDE. My ancestors migrated here from England-they brought everything here they had (sold and brought $$) They did not have any government aid to look to when they got off the boat, they worked back breaking jobs, took care of their families and instilled an honest hard work ethic in their children, they spoke the English lanuage(my ancestors were French whom migrated to England then the US)were respectful and PROUD to call themselves AMERICANS. They did not fly their "motherland's" flag nor did they send 1/2 their pay "back home". My ancestors worked hard as farmers and merchants and many were in law enforcement. They educated themselves and their children and made a better life for themselves-no one gave them that better kife-just the CHANCE to do so on their own. BIG difference. I live in South FL and see the so called immigrants of today-everyday. It's not something for their ethnic backgrounds to be proud of.

You might want to consider moving to Minneapolis or Pittsburgh. There you can live happily in your all European Neighborhoods. I don't mind the diversity, I hate the values. And those values - or lack there of - don't seem to limit themselves to hispanics and african americans. South Florida should be a separate state called Southern North Jersey or New North Jersey. Can I have a conversation that doesn't revolve around how important you are or how much money you make? Please?

Oh, Lord, they've once again trotted out the "Baby Boomers are going to retire and all come down here" argument as to why South Florida isn't toast.

1. Baby Boomers, by and large, don't have any money saved for retirement. Nada. Ever read the financial news? How are they going to afford a $200K condo,$600 per month maintenance fees, and $300 per month property taxes when they haven't saved anything for their "golden years"?

2. The few Baby Boomers who HAVE managed to save something for retirement are unlikely to squander their nest egg by buying into a drastically over-inflated market (property prices tripled between 2001 and 2005...can anyone doubt there is still a LOT of pain ahead in the SFL housing market?).

3. There are now MANY retirement options available to people, such as N. and S. Carolina, Tennessee, Texas (TN and TX don't have state income taxes, and much lower property taxes than FL!). These areas did not come as overpriced as SFL and (with the exception of TX) they don't have the crime, illegal immigration, and overcrowding that plague SFL.

4. SFL now has a two-tier economy: the very rich and the very poor. Most people do not feel comfortable living in a place that has virtually no middle class...just poverty (immigrants living 12 to a trailer or condo) and extreme wealth. Why on earth would retirees want to come to such a place?

Face it: South Florida is toast.
