The condominium is dead. As people default on their assessments, the burden shifts to other owners, until they cannot pay.

Then the water and electric are cut off, followed by the Sheriff's evacuation order.

This is followed by the bankruptcy of the Condo Assn., and the end of the association, which then turns the apartments back to the owners.

It's over folks.

That doesn't stop you from taking 'contributions' from owners, does it?

I am amazed at the unfair and bias tatics the condo boards use. They lie/cheat and would rather climb a tree as tell anyone what goes on. Just last night as I fell asleep I asked my husband, why do they have closed meetings after they feed us members a line of manure at the monthly meeting. Is there any one out there that can help?
My husband and I have succeeded in getting the president to quit and the vice president to resign but they did not follow any proper procedure to elect new board members. Who has the rule book and can I borrow it? I can not stand be treated like a mushroom, kept in the dark and feed manure.

The reason complaints have risen is simple. It is not Hurricane Katrina. It is because the DBPR is a "toothless tiger," that allows corruption to flourish in our condominium boards. To be a member of a Condo Board today, is to have the same stigma as being a former member of the N azi Party, Communist Party, or the Ku Klux Klan.

Almost by definition, if you are on a Condo Board, you are a crook.

The condo bill will be taken apart next session, and this insanity will end.

I agree with Red from Fort Lauderdale. Our association is on the edge of bankruptcy we owe people money. The big problem is people renting out condo's but not paying monthly association fees. The people here complain, and expect things to get done but how can things get done when the association has no money? The association before us did a terrible job, and the developer didn't want to foreclose on the units because then they could not sell their 55 units left. Well I can tell you this place is falling apart, and alot of repairs have to be made. Nobody in their right mind would buy a condo in here reguardless how many people are in foreclosure. People don't use their heads. There are people like my husband who try to save the condo's from becoming abandoned. Yes it has happened the money runs out, and it gets so bad the water gets shut off. His approach is to involve the whole community, and cutting costs. Getting to know each other through barbecues, and being payed to do work around the complex other than hiring contractors. You can't afford them when the association is on the edge of being broke it is stupid. It is a better approach than putting assessments on the people who are paying because they should not have to pay for people who were not responsible, or didn't have the money. The problem is you have people on the boards who don't live on the complex, and could care less what happens. To many people on the board means your voted out.

What do I have to say this is the worst economic crisis since the great depression. Put people to work who don't have jobs who want a job in the condo complex. The contractors doing the jobs don't really do a good job anyway. The complexes can save money by buying two lawn mowers you can ride around in, or one for that matter. Then put them in a shed on the complex it is that simple. This is just an example of what I'am talking about here.

I agree implicitly. Its a" license to steal" if you're on a condo board. They use our maintenance money and "unwarranted assessment monies" (the unit owners money) for the condo's bogus legal representation (the lawyers who represent the condo) to screw us (the unit owners). Its a crime and the lawyers are in on it too. Its a total scam and nobody does a fuckin thing about it. Its really fucked up and should go to the FBI The lawyers in South Florida should all go to jail and be disbarred. they are so lame and corrupt. The judges arent any better.
Im sick and tired of hearing that being on the board is a "thankless job". These people make sure they get on the board year after year and love it because then they actually make loads of cash and they put the money in a clandestine account so theres no paper trail (like a relative or child's account. It happened at many condos including ours. When is this crap going to end?

You already explained the problem; apathy. If others won't run for the board, you'll get the same ones over & over again.
Doesn't matter if in N.J. or FL. Apathy is spelled the same way and has the same meaning.

Maybe fines should be levied against board MEMBERS, not the board as a body. That way, the culprits pay, not the complainers
Perfect that's the answer The board members harass, intimidate, and alienate the owners and get away with it. They think they are untouchable right now. We need fines against them.

Woodhaven Board Members Have them Beat!!
They harass the owners are bias, have cars towed, etc.
They need to resign or throw them out and start to rebuild good faith in the development. They have been sue and being sued again They are a huge liability and can not continue.
They are a group of friends that just do for each other and again harass everyone else.

Community That is the answer. There was a time when neighbors and friends were the same. You would look out for each other You would never rob or steal from your neighbor or your friend. Now it seems condo boards look at getting on these boards as their own personal cash cow.How about this GET A JOB! If you want to sit on these boards you do it for the sake of harmony and community maybe a small sense of civic duty. You dont take these position's to steal and to feel you are entitled to do so. I work for everything I have made in this Life and cant imagine how these Demons put their heads down at night and actually sleep. Also know that they could read this and not get it. They are blinded
