DELRAY BEACH, FL - Delray Beach Police Officers are investigating the homicide of a 30-year-old gay man found dead in his driveway on May 11 around 8:30 p.m. Mark Scott Harriss died instantly from multiple gunshot wounds inflicted as he exited his gray Ford F150 truck at his house, 412 NE 7th Ave., Delray Beach, after eating dinner at the Taco Bell on Linton Boulevard, a six-minute drive from his residence, according to police reports. Delray Beach Police Detective Troy Baer said there are no suspects at this time and police have not narrowed down a motive for the crime, including if the victim was targeted base on his sexuality. “We don’t know if it’s a hate crime, it is possible,” Det. Baer said. “It could have been anything.” Det. Baer said that so far the evidence points to this crime being an isolated incident and there is no need for panic among the gay community. Police do not believe anything was stolen from Harriss’s car, nor are there any signs of a struggle or conflict. At the time of the incident, police spoke with five witnesses, who identified that a small white four-door vehicle had been present in the area before and after the shooting. Police have not found any direct witnesses to the crime. According to friends Harriss had moved to South Florida about two years ago. He worked as the manager of a Best Western Hotel in Boca Raton. He was engaged to marry his partner Ross Salvosa, a Canadian citizen, in Vancouver next year.

I think that every gayman in the United States should carry a loaded gun to protect themselves from bigots and learn how to defend ourselves from our enemy!

Dont jump to conclusions yet. They havnt found the guy who did it. So they dont know the reason. Just because on of us has been murdered doesnt mean we should automatically assume its because we are LGBT. The sad fact is their are to many reasons for killing someone out their. Lets let the cops do their jobs and hope the killer pays for his crime.

You are right on. I've been saying the same thing for years but most in our community are against guns, not necessarily banning them but they feel they dont need a gun. The problem is most in the gay community rely too heavily on hate crime laws and unfortunately all the hate crime laws in the world isnt going to help you if you're already laying in a pool of your own blood. A hate crime law sits idle until someone has already bashed you, then it doesnt help you, it just increases the punishment for the perpetrator (just like when anti-capital punishment crowd says capital punishment doesnt deter a murderer so why have it). The other argument is that the criminal will take the gun away from you and kill you, but that is unlikely if you know how to use it. A shotgun would be a better and safer choice than a handgun for those who dont really care for guns but needs some home protection since it wont penetrate walls like a handgun and you dont have to be as precise in aiming. I have both.

Another problem is that most openly gay people are liberals (unlike myself Thank God) who OPPOSE the Second Amendment, and will not avail themselves of its protections.

I think every gay person should receive formal firearms training AND join the NRA . . . wait a few years until our membership numbers grow to a significant size, then COME OUT. That might just change our image a tad. Think of the PR possibilities surrounding gay NRA membership and gun clubs. A whole separate section in the PRIDE parades, too. lolol

You do provide an excellent idea here, even if it is slightly a bit comical in some senses. We do have the Pink Pistols, which have many chapters throughout the country. Maybe it is high time that the Pink Pistols and the NRA have a mutual goal in mind. The NRA can state that it is unacceptable to feel your life is threatened in any way. It is perfectly acceptable to defend yourself through any means possible and if some one is targeting you because your sexuality, perceived or otherwise, you have the right to arm yourself. The Pink Pistols is the arm of the gay organizations that veer in the direction of the NRA's stance on the 2nd amendment.

Let me just place it this way. I own three hand guns. If someone tries to play their anti-gay crap with me and I feel my life is in danger. Two warning shots will be fired........ in their head.:O)

I can't speak for Gays, But I know a surprising number of TGed folks who own guns and ENJOY shooting sports. Secondly, Why do people who call themselves "Liberal" advocate restricting other people's rights? Liberal towards whom?

I'm as liberal as they come and you can go ahead and carry your handguns all you like. What I DO OPPOSE is the sale of automatic assault rifles at gun shows to people with no background checks. I'm opposed to the sale of automatic assault rifles altogether as a matter of fact. It's unnecessary and should only be used by the armed forces. Instead they're getting sold and used to murder hundreds of people in Mexico fueling the whole drug war.

Typical gay response.

Hate crime based on what?

Thousands of people are murdered every day in this world. But God forbid if one happens to have been gay then all of a sudden this makes the crime somehow special and worthy of more attention.

You make me sick.

That's a good idea. There IS a group called the "Pink Pistols" I believe.

ALL Americans should SUPPORT The Second Amendment.

ALL Americans should SUPPORT The United States Constitution.

Most liberals do not support either.

Does NY till allow this? Sales of assault rifles in CA is illegal because assault rifles are illegal in the state.

Just for arguments sake, if the government is the only ones that have assault rifles what would we use if they came for us in a massive seep to remove our weapons?

When a black person is gunned down the first thing the yell is racist hate crime.

When a white guy is attacked by blacks they cry hate crime.

I think most of us jump to conclusions far too quickly. We should wait until they catch the perp ( always wanted to say that lol) before we draw any conclusions.
