Is it not strange that donations are collected for the marines? where are the billions of dollars which the Pentagon cashes from the tax payers for the war on Iraq? How pathetic !! Is this an army who can make victory?

It takes the support of the entire community to outfit and support a soldier, sailor, marine or airman. We are the United States of America. United, through our taxes and personal contributions.

We spend $12 billion a month to be there and the marines need " care packages " from home ? This doesn't reflect well on the military if they can't support their troops any better than that.

Why shouldn't our Marines have all the luxuries that your kid at the Town Center is walking around with? Each individual Marine deserves the best comfort item we can send, let alone the letters of support.

No! Not at all.

America is not capable of winning a conventional ground war in any part of the world.

The US is now a military, industrial and economic has been.

Sending underwear would be very helpfull!

The comments on this story are pitiful. Our brave Marines are fighting a brutal war under tough conditions and now have to endure the after affects of a fire. Sure, the Marines will replace the lost military items but any soldier welcomes care packages and letters of support. It's the least we can do to show we support our fighting men and women in harms way.

Why isn't the government supplying these soldiers with all these necessities? Where are our tax dollars really going?

But bravo to the families and community for stepping up.

While you lazy schmucks are sitting at home enjoying your reality tv and double stuff oreos these young men are off in another part of the world helping to train the Iraqi Army to stand up and face the future without American involvement and come home safe and sound to enjoy the liberties of American life them and thier predeccessors have fought for over our history and which your are enjoying with your fat behinds resting in your reclining chair. These kids just lost the few personal possessions they had such as laptops and items from home and air conditioning in the 127 degree heart. You all should be ashamed of yourselves for your immature comments and shitty attitudes. Maybe we should do mandatory service time so ingrates like you can taste what its like to give up your Chipotle and Dunkin Donuts for a change. Karma is a bitch, thats all I can say...Hope your relatives who served could read this so they bitch slap you at the family reunion
Cheers from Baghdad

You people are ignorant... The military will provide all necessary MILITARY items. The donations are for comfort items to make that hell hole a little more bearable.

Hey "Iraqi" I find it funny that you question our ability to win a war while your country's standing army fought so poorly and was dominated so thoroughly by the US TWICE! I wouldn't be surprised if you were one of the thousands who gave up your country so easily.

Read the story again, jughead. It says the jarheads need
" necessities such as undershirts, underwear, tube socks and personal hygiene supplies for adults in the care packages.........

They also need such snacks as pepperoni, beef jerky, candies, taco ingredients, canned goods and anything with a flip-top "

If the military can't supply the troops with food and clothing and they need care packages from home for these necessities, then that's pitiful.

Nobody said they shouldn't get letters of support or gifts of gratitude.

I once said the U.S. Military was the best in supporting their soldiers, in weapons, supplies, clothes and food. I guess I was wrong. We need people from Boca to send these guys supplies?

Where are our C-5's and & C-17's who can unload tons of supplies for these guys? Where are the supply trucks that can bring in extra gear or the C-130's who can make parachute drops?

Where is our tax dollars going to?

BTW, U.S. ships have just landed in North Korea with food and supplies fo those dirty commies.

Could you all just think of our sons and daughters giving up their lives. They are in 125 degree heat with every "comfort" gone. The military does take care of their operational needs. Look how we reacted when we were hit by a hurricane, people were freaking. Think how these folks feel not having the picture of that toddler or wife/husband that they keep in their sleeping quarters. Or that midnight munchie that reminds them of home. Come on folks we are talking about a few "comforts" like a fresh shave, a magazine from home, a box of Rice Krispie Treats. I don't think that is alot to ask after coming in from a patrol ducking bullets. THIS IS ABOUT OUR SONS/DAUGHTERS NOT THE WAR OR THE MILITARY. All of you posting are sitting in front of your computers with the luxury items at your side. Don't these Marines deserve a snack tonight. And bny the way, they haven't built a Walmart in Iraq for them to run out to.

Marines are self supporting and necissity by a Boca Standard is a far cry from that of an infantryman. Make a difference, do something, put up an IPOD or a laptop!
