Drywall Owner wrote: <quoted text> It is generally more expensive to import tons of drywll than to domestically produce it. The problem exists due to the lack of supply due to housing boom and hurricanes. Had my builder said we have a delay due to lack of our standard product I would have accepted. We were not informed especially when multiple drywall construction contractors refused to deal with this stuff (due to smell and difficulty in working with). Our builder simply used the cheapest subcontracters money could buy. The builders were greedy, money hungry, and are now getting what is coming to them. Our builder is now left with 70 homes with drywall, 20 + empty lots he cannot sell, and a reputation that is in the toilet. Anyone who claims we are being greedy because we want our homes fixed... should come and live in my shoes. I don't think anyone is being greedy for wanting the problem fixed and yes I think it is the homebuilder's responsibility to take corrective action. However, I don't think a private/civil matter between homeowners and homebuilders is the state's problem or the taxpayer's problem. I also do not care for whining. Things happen and you need to deal with it, nothing more. The people featured in this article sound like a bunch of crybabies; the builder is correcting the problem and paying for a rental for them. They should be happy instead of acting like this is the biggest trauma in the history of the world.

For the most cost-effective way to definitely determine if you have contaminated Chinese drywall, use AssuredBio and their FT-IR test. It is being used by attorneys and insurance companies and costs only $159/analysis. For more info visit http://assuredbio.com and http://chinesedrywalltests.com

The KING wrote: Stay away from Greystone in Boynton Beach....another GL Homes property. These buffons cant give these properties away right now. They are touting low 200's LOL... for what a shack that is worth a buck and a quarter at best! Look around that entire neighborhood they are castoffs from Canyon wanna be snobby but cant afford Canyon. Buyer beware in this area. I live in Greystone and I take a huge offense to what you are writing. This happens to be a very nice community to raise my family in, and just because you might not be able to afford it you should not throw stones.

Let me first start by thanking GL Homes for building such a beautiful community. I moved into Greystone about 6 months ago and we love it! There is so much to do for the kids, not to mention the A rated elementary school built on site. My parents also live in a GL home and that is how we learned of Greystone. It has been a very positive experience and I would absolutely refer all of my friends and family to GL Homes.

Real Homeowner wrote: <quoted text> Well looks like you're in the PR business for Good Luck Homes, so tell me Cindy if its such a great place then why dont you live in there? Maybe out of your price range? Alot of rambling for someone who doesnt even own a place in there...or sounds like anywhere I bet. What other posters choose to write about is THEIR opinion, like it or not! Go back to renting your shanty and leave the business of home ownership to those who do know what they are talking about. King, What are you seriously trying to accomplish? If you don't live there who are you to comment? You have so much anger! I live there and I love it. I know you are entitled to an opinion, but your's is very unjustified. Maybe you just paid alot more for your home and have sour grapes.

Then there are the builders and contractors who used this drywall but cannot afford to come replace it all or that have already went out of business. This is when the homeowners will find out how little their extremely high insurance payments will actually get them. I'd like to read the reasons they give for denying these claims. Can't blame water or wind for this one.

Nat wrote: Just a quick post to those that wrote that people that live in West Boynton are Boca "wannabes." THAT, is the funniest, most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. The ONLY thing I would EVER consider going to Boca for is, maybe, plastic surgery, since they seem to have that down quite well. I have been very happy in West Boynton, and will not cross "the line" into Boca unless absolutely necessary.(unless, of course, I want to look at 70 year olds with silcone lips/breasts, etc.) Oh, or I feel like trying to outdo the Joneses. Ok, aside from unnecessarily insulting folks, I couldn't agree more. I like West Boynton because it has (generally) down-to-earth people just looking to have a safe place to raise their families. I could care less about Boca let alone "wannabe" living there. I looked at the GL neighborhoods because I liked the ammenities they offered for my young children. I also liked the size and layouts. We live with my gray-haired mother (by the way ALL of us--if so lucky--will also be old so get over yourselves) and the size of the house would allow us all some privacy. Not everyone cares about appearances or is buying a home to show off. There's much more to life than worrying about that nonsense. You have a very shallow understanding of humanity if you assume that everyone is competing...sounds like you may be a bit self-conscious yourself.

What a racket...pay and pay and pay...if you need them they'll wiggle their way right out of paying you.

Drywall Owner wrote: My home is affected by Chinese drywall. No I do not live in Parkland and I do not have a builder who is paying for the repairs and temporary housing. This has nothing to do with the cost of the home, when we bought the homes, where we decided to live, etc. Ultimately we made a choice to purchase a home which we thought would be our dream home. It has become a nightmare. I could walk away and leave my mortgage company with the bill and ultimately the American people. Rather I continue to pay and am up to date on all mortgages, insurance, hoa dues, etc. It is the responsible thing to do. With that said it was the responsibility of the government to oversee imports, the manufacturer to ensure their product was free from defect, and the developer to install a product that is safe and reliable. If the developer had no knowlede of the defect at the time, it was their responsibility to inform us if and when they determined there was a problem. Yet they did experiments with Knauff in a test house (unsold) while we went along living with potentially harmful irritants. The CDC has put out health effect warning to medical providers like myself that have yet to be brought to light in the media. http://www.cdc.gov/nceh/drywall/docs/Drywall_... Whether the debate conculdes that there are conclusive health effects, there are known safety issues. There is known electrical arcs occuring, exposure to freon gases when ac compressors fail, and high risks of copper pipes bursting (noted in my neighbors home) which will put us all at risk for toxins from mold. Why are car manufacturers made to repair their products beyond warranty when there is a known safety issue, and drywall manufacturers not held to the same standard. Just because you do not have contaminated drywall, all should be concerned about the lack of oversight by the Consumer Product Safety Comission. We have had lead in toys, GHB in toys, diethylene glycol in toothpaste, melamine in pet food, unknown toxins in chicken jerky for dogs (causing fanconi like syndrome), and now excessive organic compounds and sulfur in drywall. This is all thanks to lack of supervision of imported products from China. My only hope is that this is a wake up call to the CPSC and the AMerican people that higher standards and closer regulation is needed. I hope for my families sake that this issue is resolved soon, not at the tax payers or mortage companies dollar, but the Chinese plant and German Company who decided to cut corners and ignore a defective product to save a buck. I urge Congress, the EPA, the CPSC to finally stand up and declare an immediate ban on the product and issue an immediate recall. Please keep this in mind those of you who complain about too much government and go on about free trade, global economy etc. I'm all for FAIR trade and a global economy but not rampant, unchecked capitalism that has effectively exposed us all to these inferior and DANGEROUS goods.

Just chiming in here.. I was the 2nd house to close in GreyStone.
Living in this neighborhood has been an overwhelmingly satisfying experience. The only negative thing I will say about it, is that releasing a new 1 story floor plan which trumps the hell out of the one originally available and doing so for over 120,000 less than what I paid for mine is a slap in the face.
We all know the market has gone ape shit, and prices have dropped. But now, not only do I have to compete with sellers that bought the same house as me for much less money, I have to compete with a much more desirable floor plan, one with a 3 car garage compared to 2 , 4 bedrooms compared to 3 , 2 walkins in the master suite and a roman tub, of which my model did not have to offer..
I know I sound like a whiney ass hole, but that is the only thing I would ever complain about in this neighborhood..
*Shrugs* My fault for buying at a bad time I guess.
