So, what am I to blame for?

You're the whiner who thinks it's someone else fault that your husband's income requirements outweigh the industry's skill requirements.

You're the one who whines that you have less money, but are angered when the teet you've suckled on your entire life decides to pay less for services it requires.

So now you are saying that the person you've been blaming all along are people who "feign intelligence"?

Wow. Good one.

Become a firemen never get laid off and as you get older you get promotions based on the time on the job.

23% of Palm Beach Firemen make over $100,000 per year.
During the last budget year, 464 people in the Palm Beach county's workforce made more than $100,000. About 68 percent of that group worked for fire-rescue.
Fire-rescue workers, like other county employees, receive benefits under the state's retirement system. Benefits are paid based on a person's average total compensation, which is calculated by averaging the five highest years of pay - including overtime

When you are in your deathbed, will you think about all the great times you had posting about firemen?

It depends on what type of accounting you're talking about. Accounting is supposed to be one of the hottest, most in demand fields, especially for CPA's and people who go into auditing, ie SOX compliance.
Yes, that what it is " suppose to be"
There are some accounting positions, but the pay is not all that great. With an accounting degree and 3 years experience some companies still want to pay approx $50K... mind you accounting carries a lot of OT so that salary is diluted. Yes there are other companies that will pay late $50s to late $60s, but also carries OT hence also diluted... typically when people otter the term service jobs..it is a given that you earn no more than $10 hr

Only stupid people go to college.
raises the starting pay for new firefighters to $42,053 a year, a 12.5 percent raise. Add in overtime and the numbers go much higer. Health benefits only a king could afford and $7,000 per month pensions at age 45.
They wanted a 15 percent raise for the first year of the contract and 10 percent for the second and third years

You are dead on. The older you get, with more experience, the less needed you are.
What world are you living in? The older you get and more experience you have the better. Unless you don't differentiate yourself from the heard. For example, if you are fifty and have worked in the same position for twenty five years, and aren't the owner or manager, or received promotions along the way, then you've haven't gained experience, you've proven you are complacent and want to do no more than the minimum. There's nothing wrong with that, but if there is any fluctuation in the companies ability to afford their staff, it will be people like you who are cut first obviously. I think they should cut young complacent workers first, all other things being equal, after that, even though you've been there a long time, companies have to think about there own ability to survive above your ability to survive. Your survival should be your own responsibility, it's insane to think you're company should care more about you than themselves. You don't care more about them than yourself do you?

If you are 50 and not retired on a $7,000 per month ($5 miilion plus) pension and full health benefits you must be a stupid college graduate. Become a firemen and stop working at age 45 and let the honest hard working taxpayers pay your way. This is the truth, why and the heck anyone would study and go to college is just plain crazy. Being a firemen pays far more than most college graduate would ever dream of making.

Palm Beach counties fire budget is $270 million for 1,400 workers. Most of all the money goes to workers salary and benefits and pensions. This is about $196,000 per employee.

Only stupid people go to college. Collect a pension for 40 plus year and then your wife can collect for another 10 to 15 years on widow benefits. Pensions alone can be worth $5 million to $7 million dollars per worker.

I don't agree that only stupid people go to college. That is obviously a overstatement used for emphasis, but I do agree being a fireman pays much more than many peoples' jobs, even college graduates. However, not every state pays the same, I am a college graduate and I make a decent amount more than the people I know who are firemen in Texas(at least the ones I've met), however I know many college graduates that do not, and I agree that those people are, in many cases, "stupid college graduates". Others are social workers, teachers, volunteers, homemakers, activists, etc. and chose to make less money because of the passion they have for their careers. Also, some people aren't willing to have a job as risky as being a fireman(or firewoman), even though some other people would find it exhilarating and rewarding.

Your retirement is a good as a firemens?
Age 45 $7,000 per month,3% yearly increases. Husband dies at age 83, wife gets half benefits till she dies (still 3% increases every year). She is 5 years younger and lives to 90. This pension is worth almost $9 million dollars. This pension is earned over 25 years but paid out for more than 50 years. You could save your entire pay check and not get this much money back.

While working a firemen does not have to save for the retirement (the taxpayers pay for the bulk of it) and gets great health insurance.

Only stupid people go to college and study. Everyone else becomes a firemen if they wnat to get wealthy, and work only 8 days a month.

You know...this talk of being a fireman, which I was a paramedic, is not really a great job. Great to sit around and do nothing and learn nothing except for rescuing kitties from trees and hanging out looking for tail...

If that's what you want to do...I don’t think I've ever had an intelligent conversation with a fireman - when I was a paramedic - I remember thinking what a bunch of jocks and muscle heads - but no substance...

Yeah, nice to be a fireman but what growth do you have in life? Rewarding - I think not - because I remember going to accident scenes with drunk dads with dead kids in the back seat - with their brains on the floor - nice! That the stuff I want to see every day - and occasionally you get some drunk chic showing off her tatas and trying to get laid by some uniformed – uninformed guys and that's the highlight of the day...

Hose down dudes!

I think firemen are one of our greatest resources and believe it to be one of the most honorable jobs a person can choose, but you personally are an idiot.
