Nucor-Yamato used to be a great place to work. The supervisors were respectful to you, if you were respectful to them. Now, you pretty much have to "brown-nose" to keep your job or at least to keep it less stressful. Most of the good guys have moved on to corporate. It's just not the same as it was about 15 yrs. ago. They will never admit it, but there are "cliques". If you aren't in one of them, then you are nobody. You are dispensable to them.
Yes, the money is great, decent benefits. You do spend a lot of time away from your family and miss a lot of milestone events with your children.

That's true. Then they seek out these college grads and put them alongside the learning impaired high school graduates and they make the same money. This makes no sense.

By your sign in, it looks like you live in St. Louis. That is a pretty fair commute don't you think?. Or maybe you are just another nerd afraid to even put your true location on the board.

Thats why you're still at TENARIS, right???

Prove it or shut up! Tired of hearing all these TENARIS folks saying, "If I wanted to leave I got another job right now!"
And you don't think they aren't compiling info to get rid of all the ones that get on TOPIX while at work??

You just might get to prove me wrong here real soon, so NUCOR get ready cause you'll have to hire "GUEST" soon.

it does take a while. it took my husband a year even more, he was hired on as a temp and then got hired into the lab. just keep putting in your applications, call them, talk to whoever you have to to let them know you are serious. all HR and see if you have to. i do miss my husband b/c he works sometimes more than the 4 days to help cover someone else or cross train. i do miss him, but he has a good job, he's happy and on the days off we do a lot together.
because of nucor we will have scholorships for our children, spouses will get to go to school and reinbursed as well as the employees. they have a health spending plan where you pay so much in a week and every doctor visit, meds you need etc will pay you back. that helps when a lot of people dont save up for those tough days. the next child i have, i am going to put back as much as i can a week so when the baby comes, i will have it all paid for. thank goodness.
insurance is not that expensive, but they only cover 67percent , which is a downfall. a lot of places, for example, where i work, they pay 80. but their payments each week are more expensive.

so, just try it out. do your best. and they also have to take a financial peace class now as well.

Took my husband the better part of 13 yrs to get hired. Unbelievable.

So all I can say is keep sending in your application and or resume. It's not who you know either, believe me. Just be persistent and I am sure it will pay off after a while. Do not expect it to happen in a month or even in 6 months or a year. You could be waiting a WHILE.

Made more than $110,000 out there last year. Pays dental, vision, medical, college. four on/off. 4 weeks vacation. People that really care about you. Sure, it's dangerous if you don't pay attention, a lot of jobs are. but go ahead and tell me about all of those "better paying" jobs you can get here.
Ipsco Atlas there are several. If you made 110K at Nucor you worked your butt off!!!

been there done that. i was one of the last two that was actually hired thru nucor in 1995.after that they started the temp service deal.i sent in my app.got an interview, took the test, and was hired by mike gurley within one week.i was out there for 7 long years and almost lost my family because of it.the harder i worked the more they wanted you to work.the last year that i was there i worked more 6 on 2 off than the four on four off.i lost track of time, days, and everything that was going on in my families life.i never used a grace day,was always there when scheduled, never written up,and when i decided to quit they almost broke their neck to try and get me to stay.i was told at the time of departure that i always had a job there if i decided to return.as for the money, you hear what you gross, ask the people what they net and it is a whole different story.you actually live on about 60% of what you gross or i did according to my w-2.when i knew that i was going out that gate for the last time, it felt as though they lifted that whole mill off my shoulders and it felt good.money isn't everything but happiness is. i've been happy ever since i left, and would be very desperate to go back.
