Former Mayor Harrison:

"If you agree to put that tax back on and keep it, the immediate use will be to build a new fire station, give the police and firemen that work for you a raise and to buy equipment that both of those departments need, not only to make them more efficient, but to keep them safe," Harrison said.

Harrison noted the potential new fire station, planned to be built a block from the current west end station, would cost between $650,000 to $750,000.

WHERE IS THAT FIRE STATION?????
How much has been collected, over $3 million? FOUR fire stations could have been built. 4 years later and no fire station.

@guest: Are you saying that a politican/city leader might have made a statement that is untrue? That couldn't happen in a country that is "of the people, for the people..."
Maybe it's 'tax the people'.

It's at Main & Franklin. Built at least 35 years ago. That's the last one we'll ever see.

The city sunk $40,000 in that old building. They used the promse of new station to get the tax passed. When I asked about the new station I was told that the fire trucks needed so much maintenance it was usingup al the tax money. The city did buy the lot to build the new station. I they don't pu a new roof on the main staion it's going to be full ofmold. If it isn't already.

Town is shrinking. Overpass is nearly completed. This shrinking town does NOT need 2 firestations, maybe we do not need as many firemen on the payroll either...
Enough of ripping off the taxpaying citizens.

The population is dropping but there are still as many buildings as ever and many of these are vacant. These vacant buildings are the ones that seem to be burning. Also if you close a station and lay off firefighters get ready to pay higher insurance rates. Homeowners insurance is based on ISO ratings and they are the ones that say how many firefighters and what equipment you have to have. People are complaining about taxes now. How bad is it going to be when isurance goes up along with the high sales tax. Most of the complainers probably don't have insurance so it wouldn't matter to them anyway.
