yall have forgot 1 important man...Mark Blount. He was an all-american in football the only all-american football player that has came from Gosnell. Most importantly he is still there and coaching at Gosnell. Most leave and you never really hear from them again, with a few exceptions, but this is very impressive and he is one of the best athletes to come from Gosnell. Also has the only FOOTBALL jersey number that has been retired.

It has been mentioned already about Mark Blount. He would be in the top 15 of football player's ever to play at Gosnell. I don't think he is in the top 5 but was good. A different place and time.

Sparks was not a football player but one heck of a track runner. I like Mark but no way in heck he was better than Joe. Joe was All-SEC and got player of the year in the SEC one year. Mark was good but not as good as Joe. Harvell brought Gosnell back from the dead to beat Dardnelle in the 88 AA state title game. I agree Eric could be on the football list. Football is harder to judge than basketball. Marcy and Pam were not top 10. They would make a top 25 or 30 list. Several players would be ahead of Marcy and Pam. Pam wasn't even in the top 5 on her team her Sr. year. Marcy's sister was as good as her.
Which sister...Emily or Molly (doesn't matter they were both good, oh and Tina Cleaveland put her at say 12ish)...I didn't put them in the top 10 but they deserve to be on the list...there were more than 10 on the guys list...and I would still pick Mark over Harvell any day (oh and FYI there were 5 guys on that court during the whole game, not 1)...don't get me wrong love them both and think the world of both...but I would pick Mark first!

Oh and let me throw a name out there for football...Bobby Frierson (not sure of the sp)...though he transfered to BHS for ROTC...he was a dang great player!

Smurf wasn't a basketball play, He might have been on the team but that was about it. He was a good football player, though. The best athlete in that class, the class of 1990 was Jerry Echols,Melvin Smith,Chester Hawkins and BJ Mannix. Patrick King wouldn't make the top 25 basketball list. He was good but let's keep thing's in perspective. Molly was the best of the 3. Emily quit her Sr. year. Bobby Frierson only played up until the 9th grade.

Honey was putting Patrick King on the football list not basketball, and he is kinda like an honorable mention there, really I was just trying to move Smurf off the list (sorry).
And yeah I know when Bobby left...I even said he left...and by the by he was still a kick butt athlete at BHS.
OHHHH...and Mark wins out in the Joe vs. Mark arguement!

Good point...Dominique could go to 12 and bump everyone down.

Ethan and Tray Tray...if they keep playing like they have been, yeah they will be up there.
Josh Wilson will also make it in baseball.

I don't think Patrick King even played football. I could see Battles on the list but he would be 17-20, at best. Look Gosnell's basketball team this year is average at best. They are currently 7th in a conference of 8 teams. I'll do my own list. It may take some time because I want to research the 60.'s and 70.'s. Scott and Bryant are decent player's but aren't in the top 20 player's at Gosnell. No way No how.

back up off Bryant and Scott...they are young and still have a year left...and they will make it...have a lil faith...the team this year needs to work on being consistent...they can win it they just need to pull it all together

and yeah Patrick King played football...don't really remember if he was great or anything

It is sad because the Supt. and board don't have a clue. They don't support athletics or the kids in general. The Supt. lives in Little Rock in a $400,000 house.

I have had both the honor and privilege of working with many members of the school board and they love those kids...love them!

Unless you are serving on the board, do not attempt to judge the job they are doing. It is not fun and often times thankless. Sadly enough as times have changed so have the students. I remember the days when there was a pep assembly every week and students were involved, came out to cheer, would not sit down one time during a ball game, and no one ever had to call one of us down for inappropriate behavior. Today that is not the case, it is sad but a reality, even though there are still outstanding students and athletes there, they are often overshadowed by those who cause trouble.

Let us not talk about the school board, or even the lack of school spirit, but rather the outstanding athletes that have come out of a great school. That is what this topix was started for!

Don't make me puke. I guess Manila,Rivercrest,Armorel,BIC, VV,Marion,etc.... have the same type kids now that they did 20 years ago but Gosnell doesn't. Give me a break. Gosnell has the same type kids that those school's have.Look around at the difference at those school's. I am not bad mouthing the school. I am just saying that things need to be done different. Get you head out of the sand.

OH wait let me ask you a few things:
1. Are you on the School Board?
2. Are you involved with the Booster Club?
3. Do you volunteer your time at the school?
4. Do you attend all the games, concerts, and plays the school hosts?

I attend quite a few and at times it saddens me when I see how some of the kids behave. Mind you there are still good kids but there are also those students who go simply to not be at home, and yeah every school has them.

This topix was not created to talk bad about the school board or students but rather to discuss good athletes; can you not just leave it at that? I guess not, you have a personal ax to grind against someone or you would not be so persistent. Tell you what start your own topix and grind away, leave this one for the "fans" ok. I don't want to fight with you, really I don't. How about them Pirates?

Carl Boyd Ledbetter, Green Ledbetter, and Andy Bevil would hate to see the Gosnell school district in its current state. Unlike some of the posters I don't get to many ball games or school events. I can bairly get out for church. I wasn't going to post on here but felt the need. I am not going to attack anybody but it is time that people realized how far things have fell. This school used to be a shinning star in this area. It isn't anymore.
