While the money is good at these still mills it can be dangerous. I almost don't blame them for wanting experience only. One accident is one too many.

When they told you they only hired experienced Mill workers did you ask how much experience and how they reccomended you getting it? They may have pointed you in the right direction?

Good luck to you in your job search. It's tough out there.

I think they have hired everyone they are going to hire. I worked at Maverick and now work at Ipsco. Going to Ipsco is the best thing that I ever did.

There are thousands of people unemployed and looking for jobs so the steel mills can be really choosey on who they hire. They will pick the best of the best employees. Does make it harder to get hired on with so many trying for just a few openings.

You do have to go through Temps Plus to get on there, but I know several people who got jobs there that didn't have mill experience. Maybe they have changed their requirements since then.

you don't have to have mill experience. temps plus is lying to yall. they've told a lot of people this but they just hired a guy last week from world color in dyersburg that's only worked in the office for the last 25 years. hes never worked in a mill. plus they hired a guy 6 months ago from dburg that hasn't been out of high school long and has never worked in a factory before. I know a whole lot of people temps plus is telling they require experience but their lying. the only qualifications those girls go by is your apearance and personality. they couldnt care less of your work ethic, or anything that matters. some of you may want to call the Equal Employment office because peggy that owns temps plus is the mom of the finishing manager and that is a conflict of intrest and against the law. he has a big say on who gets hired. I know we are short a bunch of people and they are or need to hire quite a few good luck to all of you.

Sounds like someone that couldn't get a job at Ipsco. Of course they want people with experience. I love working there. I worked at maverick. I got hired from experience. What's the big deal?

I do work there. been there for w ll over 3 years. I work in the mill and I love working there also. was just stating the facts. I know a lot of people temps plus has told they require experience but still hire other people with no mill or factory experience at all. then these people ask me how so and so get hired and they were told they require experience when they worked at the same place. makes temps plus look like a bunch of liars. at least tell the person that they decided to go with someone else.
