I was in there the other day and the teachers were screaming at the kids. The school puts on a good show but if you really take a look behind the curtain its a different story. They have a habit of losing students personal information and then asking you to resubmit it. The teachers are very young , most right out of college , coming from the "Teach For America " program. They have no experience or training in formal education before coming here. I do not think any of them have a traditional college degree in education. They are working off their minors trying to get the non-traditional teaching certificates. I was told that the school could not get teachers to come here. The teachers do not communicate well between each other concerning the children. It is not the place i thought it would be when I enrolled my child there. There are some nice teachers there but I think they are in over their heads. The school has a high turnover rate for teachers.
A lot of schools loses things, a lot of different teachers from other schools, yell at kids. There is no perfect school. It's about what fit your child. See the problem today is too many parents,NOT all but some. Thinks learning starts at school, and ends at school. It is the parents responsibility to teach at home also.
The school is great I love it. If you child is behind they work to get tat child to the level they r to b on. But it's takes not just teachers parents to be involved. And stop looking for a perfect school. Because there is no perfect school. So instead of down grading KIPP. ask yourself do u take out at least two hours a day to review and help your child with homework or just review what they went over in school. Are you helping to enforce rules.?

<quoted text>I do feel for your needs.

But, I am far more educated than you ever will be.

Not every school needs to be 100% fit for special needs. You have an option and if you did not have an option and were forced to keep your child at home, I would understand your grudge at the society.

But dont try to dump every place with garbage overbearing rules so that average or above average kids have no options but to be dumbed down as no resources are left for demanding people like you.

So be careful and understanding of others situations also NOT just your special needs..
Oh.... Did I hit a nerve?
Sounds a little personal....
I did not judge you or your educational background, i just recommended you become more informed on the issues. But now I don't have to because you show your ignorance of the subject with such speech.

Simply put, You are wrong.
A parent does not have to look for options. The rule of law stands.
What I wrote is fact. If a school of any type accepts funds from the government then said school is bound to adhere to the laws pertaining to this subject. KIPP in this case, is one.
This is why some parents choose to place their children in private schools.
Besides the laws pertaining to requirements of handicap accessibility and certain other items, these schools are not subject to many of the requirements public schools are.
As it is, I do not have a horse in this race so to speak, but I do know the laws pertaining to them.

Also I do not have a grudge against KIPP or any school in the area. Actually I think KIPP can be an asset to the area if properly staffed and administered correctly. Right now they have growing pains. This does not exempt them from the requirements though.

By the way, you don't know me or my background either. But should you want to throw down sheepskins on the table. I would bet mine are as impressive as yours or anyone else's. Add to that the my years of personal experience in the matter, I think I will do just fine.

Actually, I am very involved. Yes I do set guidelines and rules for my children. I review their work every night. My children are on the honor roll.
My point with kipp is they try and market the school as the answer to all the educational problems we have. But they have all the same problems as BPS, just on a smaller scale. Kipp is struggling with these problems now. As they grow, the many issues they face will grow too. The shortcomings of the school, such as lack of formally trained teachers and staffing the school with kids right out of college with no experience in the classroom will only make things worse. You pair that with low or no parental involvement which is a standard around here, you got problems. I don't expect them to be perfect, but at the same time they should not present themselves that way.

Ok u say they are struggling, but what r u doing to help the problem. If u r fed up with it take ur child out. But ur children r on honor roll that's good. Because they also teach on a higher level. A 69 there is an f. My child has had no problems, her yeachers are wonderful and always keeps me inform. I love the school. And o my the one in west Helena and Texas is awesome. I have visit them both.

Football? Where ? They do not even have a Phys Ed teacher.
Also you only get to participate in all the extra curricular activities if they invite you. So if you are a kid who has a bad home life and and it causes problems, that child becomes "Rudolph" and is not allow to play in any "reindeer games".
The school is slowly but shortly coming around. I have visit a few of the,, and they are great. But it came with time. Kipp is slowly coming alone. But if ur child is bad and causes problems. That child should not be able to participate in the extra curricular activities
