Yep. Sounds like we're going to be out %8,500 for a "study" that could be done by reading that article. The Mayor & Council is paid to do that kind of stuff and its not like no city has ever annexed an area before.
How much does the city pay for Municipal League membership anyway? Sounds like an Old Boys club on how to sock it to the citizens.

can you believe this crap. Von Tungeln said some of the benifets of Annexation is to help keep sexually-oriented businesses from popping up on the outskirts of town and sometime houses are built that don't meet the fire code. and then he basicly said he going to scare us with a picture of a run down mobile home park. MAY BE HE HAS NOT DRIVEN THROUGH BLYTHEVILL LATELY, but the subdivions there wanting to annex are 10 time better than most houses in blytheville. if you want to see a run down mobile home park, drive down south 61 on your right.......and there is a sex shop east in of main. and yes the schools are better outside of blytheville!

Actually nothing would change in your back yard. Your insurance would go down a bit, your taxes would go up a bit and you would get police and fire protection. The kids stay in school where they are. I don't think the riff raff is going to start creeping upon you just because of an annexation. What, do you think they just start droppin off deadbeats at your door?

That's a valid point. This study, if they get it, will bring that out if that's the case.

There really shouldn't be any changes for these neighborhoods, should there? It seems to me that you would stand to gain by being in the City. If I'm wrong someone please tell me. What are the real negatives about annexation?

I am curious what the people in Meadowlawn, Birchwood, Armorel Estates and Ramblewood think about it.

The city could just as easy use less than $8,500 that they supposedly don't have to get the paperwork wrote up and pay to publish the notices in the paper. They're seeing dollar signs in more turnback money but can't figure THAT out?

So you're saying that they already know that they want the annexation and the study will justify that for them? Like they know the outcome of the study already?

I don't receive the Blytheville Courier. Could someone let me know where the annexation would be? Is it Gosnell, Armorel, etc? Thanks.

Not necessarily. Cities annex for two primary reasons: Revenue and to regulate growth. If the projection of 2000 people or so are correct the increased turnback money may not be enough to cover expenses, which in that case you must decide if the power to control growth is worth it. The only real growth in Blytheville over the past 10 years has been east of town so some zoning and restrictions would come into play. Spending $8500 would be worth the investment to see what the real costs would be. It may prevent a big mistake.

Why do you live just outside the city but don't want to be a part of the city.

Armorel sure seems a far distance to travel from Bville city limits to go for annexation.

Why not just try to annex Gosnell?

I guess residents of Gosnell would vote against 100 to 1 ???????

Thanks. That makes sense.

Someone didn't have a paper and didn't know what was going on. The mayor says that people are calling him from Meadowlawn, Birchwood, Ramblewood and Armorel Estates wanting to be annexed. He wants to do a study to see if it would be feasible for the City to do it.
