Hi Shirley, I called your house several times last night, and even left a message for you to call me back about your horse article. Although I have been a fan of your for a long time now, I find your article very dis-tasteful about the horses. I think you are using our Bly Courier to try and destroy the character of a good young man. I think your article was un-informed, and that you 'jump' the gun without all the facts. You also made our paper as well as yourself look bad in many eyes here in Luxora.

This 'nitwit' as you call him happens to be my best friends son. I watched this young man grow up. We lived side by side all his life. So I can 'vouch' for his character as well as the members of the church they attend here. You won't find another with a bigger or kinder heart than this man. He loves everything there is about horses and the life of being a horse owner. So, when you go after his 'throat' be prepared to rip a few more throats out here in Lux
also. Because we will not stand by and let you be 'used' to destroy his character.

There's more to this story that you don't know, as well as 'your Laurie'. I assume by you calling her 'My Laurie' that she is your daughter. She started showing up just out of the blue where the mans horses are. At the time we didn't get the 'picture' but now we know that she was called in to give this man trouble. You admitted she s not with the Humane Society or any animal control business, and yet she took it upon herself to harass this young man without all the facts.

This man rescues horses from the soap factory, or when they've been taken from their owners that were not caring for them properly. Sure, the animals look bad at first until he fattens them up. Which, you and your 'my Laurie' admit at being very knowledgeable about horses, know that it takes a while to do that if ever.

Sounds like that young man needs to find him a good lawyer . I haven't had time to read yesterday's paper, was that when this article was put in there ? It just doesn't seem right to make comments about a person character without all the facts . JMO

I just forewarded your article here to her at the Bly. Humane Society, and I also agree with you, she is nothing but a trouble maker here in town and was only out that way just probably looking for new tennents for all her slum rooms/apts. she rents out. She always jumps the gun on posting stories before actually investigating them. She is nothing but a obese women that wants her pic in the paper every Sunday.

Here's the article Shirley wrote on June 2....

Horses require proper care
Saturday, June 2, 2012

Is there ever a more beautiful sight than a horse grazing in a pasture or galloping across grassy green acres?

I suppose the beauty of a horse contributes to their great popularity. Horses are eager to please their owners. Most horses have great memories and can easily be trained to obey commands. It goes without saying, I suppose, that the horse is too often smarter than its owner. Why it is that humans want "pets" and don't know or care about what their part is in caring for an animal? What is so difficult about owning an animal? They eat and drink just as humans; they also enjoy the comforts, when they can get them, the simple life with food, fresh cool water, shelter, grooming and a kind word from their master.

Anyone with any sense at all knows if you buy a car, ya gotta put gas in it, keep it well oiled and cared for, or it ain't gonna run! Of course, a horse ain't gonna drink gas to fuel up on but, they must have hay and grain to be sustained. They need special care just like any other equipment of ownership.

You probably have already guessed I am going for the throat of a nitwit in Luxora that has 14 horses on 3 acres of land. The man may or may not have had them coggins tested,(state law). Rumor has it that a vet pulled blood, but O.K.! Horses are rarely used as beast of burden, and it is doubtful, in many cases, they are ever ridden. Horses, as with any other animal -- ya gotta have space. You just cannot crowd a bunch of animals in a tight space and expect them to do well.

Over-crowding spreads diseases, and that is a killer. These horses are crowded onto 3 acres of land, they are underfed and not cared for properly. A minimum required space for a horse is 2 acres each for them to feed and run on. It takes a lot of money to properly feed, stable and care for a horse. But I am here to tell you with that many horses and that small of space, then add the deal with the nut that owns them, it is an impossible task to accomplish.

Trying to get Luxora officials to do anything is like spitting in the wind. Call the authorities at the Sheriff's Office and they will tell you to call the Humane Society. My Laurie, who is not with the Humane Society, but has knowledge of horses, has visited with the owner who thinks she has no right to judge. The horses are not of proper weight and are not being cared for as they should be, and when you ain't doing what's right with animals, you may watch them slowly die.

Arkansans for Animals ain't gonna be happy with it either. It is sickening to watch an animal slowly starve to death. Try watching it sometime and see if you derive any pleasure from it. While you are at it, see if you can get anyone that gives a tinkers damn about dumb animals and their deplorable existence!

As Jazz would say: "I am working for the time when unqualified blacks, browns and women join the unqualified men in running our government." (Frances T. "Cissy" Farentheld)

Thought for the week: "To look around is to be distressed. To look within is to be depressed. To look up is to be blessed." AMEN!

She sure stuck her foot in her mouth on this one. She insinuated she contacted Arkansas for animals. Want they be disappointed when they see the truth?

I don't Like Ms. Connely, but she right about the horses on the 3 acres. I know he ask to put 3 mini horses out there, needed a place bad, and went and bought more, when he didn't have a place to put or care for the ones he had.

Some people feel the need to always throw out all sorts of problems for everyone to worry over when the big issues are hidden.
The issues of people not working, running the streets, not being a good neighbor, having their
own lives and households in chaos, their home towns overrun with weeds, thieves, trash, and no leadership, not much protection from the thugs, no accountability for the crooks, and the process of draining funds from the people that do work and contribute but get less and less for their taxes, while the very people we provide a paycheck for make more than we do and enjoy better benefits is a much larger issue.
Conneally is in the pockets of the political groups, and wishes to push the issue for the County dog pound around Luxora. This will bring in money for the county and for the people they employ, it will Not do muchfor the actual interests of the animals, it will contribute to the effort of the political side to empty taxpayers pockets to enrich themselves or relatives and friends. It will make it more difficult for people that want to help an animal by taking it to the LOCAL animal shelter.
People are more important than animals and I do not believe in the abuse of animals.
Sounds as if someone is doing the best they can for these horses. I believe most mankind has compassion for all the animals..We have laws that punish people for inhumane treatment of animals and people.
Enough!!
The point is with all the new rules ,regulations, fees, permits and the busybodies it makes it more difficult to be able to afford the proper upkeep of peoples pets (animals). Punish the wrong doers not all of us.
In the meantime this County and City take in HUGE amounts of money and can not account for any of it nor can they pay the people or the government the tax money they collect.---That is a PROBLEM and the problem then falls back on to the taxpayers.

You've been misinformed also. He takes good care of his horses. I was wrong about the 3 acres, its actually 4 acres.
If you're worried about his horses then lend him a hand. I don't think any of you 'really' care about the horses, you seem to want to assassinate his character, which is something that certain city officials are good at here. Anybody and everybody that stands up too, or goes against certain individuals here are treated this way. I know....cause I've been standing up to them for years. <smile>

I'm checking on this also. I also think the paper should be held accountable, as well as her. She made an open threat when she wrote she was going after his 'throat' as in jugler vein....as in death. Those are pretty strong words.

Thank you for giving us more information about this. Sounds like she needs to get the whole story, before jumping in and criticizing someone. Things are not always what they may appear to be, that is why people who write for the paper should always be careful about what they print. She should now publicly apologize to the young man, if what you are saying is true. Maybe she could also help raise some money to help the young man feed and care for the horses. That would show she really cares about them. Guessing she is just trying to draw more attention to the county animal shelter that is now being planned.

Hi Horse helper, how kind and special you are. But I haven't done anything myself, only telling the truth about my friends son. Shirley is not on my arse....yet <smile> I don't know what her rebuttal will be. She and this Laurie are being used to fuel a hate agenda that has been going on here for awhile against this man's parents. They decided to go after him to get to them.

The young man deserves all the credit for saving these horses. Actually, it was his two daughters around 9 and 10 years old. It was their idea to save some of these horses. So the family drove somewhere in Tenn to rescue these horses for his daughters. Its a family thing with them. And I might add they are the cutest family I have ever seen. They all wear cowboy boots and hats when caring and around the horses. I don't know about anyone else, but it warms my heart to see them. Families are becoming a thing of the past. But they do everything together.

I don't think the man has money problems as far as feeding or caring for the horses. He's been looking for a nice home in the country with enough acreages to buy for his family and horses. He's not well off financially by any shot, but he is a hard working young man that loves his family. To his parents horror <smile> he mentioned he may have hundreds of horses when he finds the home and land he's looking for.

Thank you for your kinds words and offer of generosity. May God Bless and keep you.
Just sayin

She used a figure of speech, there is a difference. People usually say things pertaining to; How I'd like to choke this one for being so (Whatever). Pretty sure she didn't mean it literally-! So calm down....Hopefully this family will get the land, shelter, food & water they are searching for so they can take good care of the animals-!:)

She always has an excuse, she uses a "figure of speech" and then says oh I didn't mean it.
