I hear there is a Nucor test at Staffmark Thursday. My question is this. Is there any chance of getting hired. Or is this an attempt to make people think they will actually hire someone that is not related to someone already there?

Hey, even if you have friends AND relatives there, it STILL takes an act of congress to get hired. I have seen it first-hand. It's just really super tough to get hired, period. Good luck to you. You will need it.

Its hard to get hired at Nucor with out some sort of college degree. Your best option is to take the test and apply to work in the warehouse or in shipping as a temp.

I took the test at Staffmark several years ago, Only to be told my score didn't qualify. What does an office worker need to know the composition of steel for? Any how 3 months later I get called from Staffmark that I had an interview in the Shipping Dept in Nucor. I went and interviewed but didn't get the job though I knew everyone in the dept. Oh well for me. I am happy where I am.

But if they tell you, you didn't meet requirements you still may.

Um, office workers need to know a lot more than you think. Obviously you don't know much about Nucor and how it works. I worked in the sales department as a temp and had to know a sh!t ton of info.

As for the person talking about ignorant fools working there-they probably got hired on as grunt laborers from a temp agency. If you want Nucor to directly hire you without going through a temp agency, you've got to have a degree, work experience, and show competency. Just ask my husband-he's turned them down twice now. He's never had to beg and plead with them to interview him-they're begging and pleading with him to come interview. So get your facts straight.

I've seen guys that failed the test miserably get hired on very quickly. They can tell you what they want about the test scores, it has nothing to do with hiring or not hiring. It's just a convenient excuse. And I'm not dogging nucor, just telling the truth, I have no problem with them at all. Also, they know that you don't know anything about making steel, they don't expect you to. Those tests are designed to see if you can use the info in the questions to come up with the right answer. Like a question on scrap mix percentages in a heat - it's a math question, not a steel question. Sometimes you gotta read it slowly more than once to see what they are really asking you. Same as any test.

How do you know they failed miserably? Did they say that, did Nucor say that, or did a temp agency say that? Just because a person THINKS they failed doesn't mean they did. Did they go to work thru a temp agency? If you show competency once you're there, and are hard working, follow the rules, make safety a priority, etc., sure, they may hire you on fast. Especially right now when they're running behind because orders are rolling in faster than they can produce.

even if you are related to someone out there about 90% of them still have to go through a temp service so just suck it up and go to temps plus it aint going to kill you

Because I saw the test scores myself. All of this is first hand.

Are you referring to Hickman or Yamato on ur first hand knowledge. I hear test scores are more important to one of them! There is a lot of math but depending on the job you may use it daily. One takes test scores very seriously.

I talked to a guy today that works at Nucor Hickman. He told me and I quote " you can know everything there is to know and be over qualified and if you aren't related to, second cousin once removed of, or f@#&ing a supervior, GM, or an accountant than your chances are slim". This cat has worked there since they built the place.
