Blytheville officer on leave following arrest in Jonesboro
Friday, March 29, 2013

By Chris Pinkard | Courier News

Blytheville Police Criminal Investigation Division officer Jason Eddings was arrested Thursday night in Jonesboro after an incident at the Electric Cowboy which resulted in public intoxication and disorderly conduct charges.

BPD Chief Ross Thompson said Eddings is on administrative leave as a result of the charges, pending the outcome of an internal investigation.

Eddings, who is also a member of the 2nd Judicial Drug Task Force, arrived at the Electric Cowboy Thursday night and was noticeably intoxicated, according to Jonesboro Police officer John Shipman, who was working uniformed security at the club that night. Because of his alleged level of intoxication, the officer asked Eddings to "sober up some" before having anything else to drink that night, to which Eddings agreed.

When Eddings was later seen drinking by the club's owner, he was escorted to the club's entrance where he was asked to get "a safe ride to where he was staying." When the club owner asked Eddings to sit down, Eddings reportedly began questioning the owner's request. According to Shipman, when the officer stepped in to ask Eddings to be seated, Eddings replied, "Why don't you put me down?"

Eddings was taken into custody at which time he claimed his Fourth Amendment rights had been violated and began cursing at the officer, Shipman said.

According to the JPD report, Eddings had already been in custody for some time before identifying himself as a police officer. Eddings was transported to the Crittenden County jail.

Eddings was given an "own recognizance" bond and is scheduled to appear in Crittenden County District Court on Monday.

Isn't it funny that Officer Rodney Richardson wasn't placed on administrative leave when he was on sick leave and had a doctor's excuse. He was fired right away. There was no internal investigation. Maybe Richardson should have gone to the Electric Cowboy instead of going to church

OK, so the officer wants Edding to sober up some before drinking some more???? How damn stupid!!

And then Eddings is asked to get "a safe ride to where he was staying" by the manager .... then Eddings is told to sit down, and then Eddings is arrested for not sitting down???

Smell like lots of BillSh$t going on here!!!!

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT)– A Blytheville officer was arrested at
a local club by a Jonesboro officer on Thursday night.

According to the Jonesboro Police Department, Jason Eddings was arrested at
the Electric Cowboy and charged with disorderly conduct and public intoxication.
At the time of his arrest, officers say they found a 2nd Judicial
Drug Task Force badge, police and DTF
identification belonging to Eddings.

An officer working
security at the club talked with Eddings before he went into the club and noted
that he was "very intoxicated".

Later in the evening a business manager escorted Eddings out
of the club so he could "sober up".

Officers say Eddings was using profanities directed at officers and was uncooperative.

Fearing the situation would only get worse, an officer
arrested Eddings and he was taken to the Craighead County Jail.

He was released and given a court date of April 1.
