Willingness is really easy. You just have to watch how they word your questions. If you pass it then you move on to the next test which takes 2 hours. They send you a thing in the mail tellin you if you passed your willingness and then they schedule you to take the big test!

You dont have to have an appointment to take the willingness either. You just show up on the days its scheduled!

my husband took and passed both test had a personal interview and got a letter in the mail a few days after the interview stating that he didnt get the job.Ive heard all the many rules for getting hired @ NYS my husband has been in the steel industry for the past 15 years in 3 mills he started at entry level and worked himself up to leader level.NYS did not give a reason for not giving him the job. I want to know if you get a letter like my husband got dose it mean they will not hire you period or just not at that time.

The two steel mills do it different. But to put it very simply.
1. Willingness survey (simple questions which in fact let a person know what they are applying for...... ie; entry level, rotating shifts, weekends along with some other basic questions.

2. Pass that you move on to a little more in depth, challenging test.

3. There is an interview at the plant. This is where it will be decided if you go in to a pool of prospective employees. It doesn't assure you of a job, but it means you are at least in a much smaller group of people.

Now as far as your hubby. Sounds like he got a letter regarding that first interview at the plant.

The 2 hour test is hard. For every 30 that take it only 1-2 people pass it. I don't know how they can continue to screen this way. They are skipping over some guys that would be hard workers.

So where does all this job prep stuff we heard about with the college fit it? By now, employers should realize what the local labor force is lacking and point those who don't make the grade to what they need to get the jobs.
How's that "Tech Prep" thing in Osceola(?) working out? What's being offered in the high schools these days that students can actually USE when they graduate?

I think Hickman is the plant that gives the super hard test that no one can pass.
