To my knowledge when geese and ducks sleep they tuck their heads under their wings therefore closing their eyes so how are they gonna know if the light is flashing or not.Elroy is such a dummy,he needs to be canned and quickly before he wastes anymore of our money.

Lighten up a little. At least he did try to get the geese to move on without harming them. There is no easy solution when you try to please everyone. Some of us want the geese there, some of us don't because of the goose crap. Maybe we should take a poll to see the majority want. Someone suggested washing down the areas where we walk to lessen the problem. That at least should be some improvement. Also, rain takes care of part of it. Maybe someone can come up with a goose crossing, where the geese would not leave so many droppings.

I've seen the deer crossing signs near Hardy, and the deer still cross where they want instead of at the signs.

no they are not. it is not the season to shoot them and the only protection they have is they are within the city limits where hunting is not allowed.

More "Away With Geese" devices coming

Also during the two-hour meeting, Brown updated the board on the geese issue at Walker Park. He said the city has two more Away With Geese devices that are expected to be installed next week.
The first Away With Geese was put in the water about a month ago. The $369 device is designed to disturb the sleeping pattern of the geese and shoo them from the area.
Councilwoman Missy Langston asked how quickly should the city see results from the devices.
"It's a long-term (solution)," Brown responded. "The thing about it is, when the light is flashing, right now they have a place to hide; they'll go to the east side of the pond. Next week when we put those other two out, they'll have nowhere to go and they'll have nowhere to hide and eventually they'll leave."
Currently, Walker Park is the only place with the device.
Thunder Bayou's Glen Harkey said geese aren't a big problem at the golf course, but there is a big resident population at the Blytheville Youth Sportsplex ball fields.
Langston said the key to getting the geese to leave is to stop feeding them.
"The guy said basically what we have done is we have provided the perfect environment," she said. "They are migratory birds, their natural pattern is to fly on. But what we've done is we've created the perfect food source; the weather doesn't have extreme changes. They don't have any kind of barrier to get in and out of the water. It's just perfect living conditions so they don't fly on. He said the main thing you can do is stop feeding them, but of course that's what people enjoy doing."
Councilman Tommy Abbott said some have told him they love to feed the ducks.
Langston said the park used to have ducks, now there are ornery geese.
Councilman Kevin Snow added some of the geese are physically unable to leave.

Here's what I have to say ( especially to you idiot council people & Elroy ) Contain those geese within the area they walk, fed, sleep & swim..... Have community service offenders clean & wash areas in the containment area....
Just like @ a Zoo where the animals are contained & maintained. How hard is that to figure out? That way people still have the enjoyment of seeing & feeding the geese, ducks etc.... and all those that are annoyed @ their droppings won't be as annoyed (Lol)
Seriously, if there is a will, there is a way. How
much time & money have you wasted on this discussion???? Totally enclose that area- Nobody needs to be walking OVER the bridge anyway to the other side so be sure to block that to so the critters can't use it.... Make things look nice & keep it clean... This town will always have offenders so you will always have clean up crews.
ENOUGH about this problem.....GIT ER' DONE-!!!
P.S. How cruel it is to try & force those animals to leave NOW after they have basically retired there? Some are to old to move on or injured & can't fly- I wish I could throw all you flippn' idiots out there in that pond & make you live like them.... How would you like that??? I doubt you'd last long-

The geese are just a distraction to keep your mind off the looting and diverting city money into the pockets of the undeserving who thrive off of it and even get to set up there own business with our funds.....

Most of those geese and ducks are injured/disabled and can no longer fly - especially any distance. In fact most of them can only continue to survive is a place like walker park pond with the citizens feeding them. The city council and parks director are pretty stupid for not figuring this out in the first place. What did they think???? The ducks and geese are going to walk to another pond? I agree their poop is a mess (no pun intended). It would not have put a big strain on the city to install a fire plug and hose the sidewalk down a few times a week. The most humane thing the city could do would be to find them all another home and transport them to it.
