Michael White, Quorum Court justice/chairman county finance committee - In 1/24/12 Courier News about the city of Blytheville owing the county $496,000 in jail fees and $128,000 in landfill fees.

"...for the sake of the rest of the county, they need to pass the tax (the 15-month, 1 cent tax to pay the multimillion dollar IRS debt)"

What does the IRS debt have to do with the city failing to pay its jail fees and landfill fees. Can there now be any doubt that politicians are planning on profiting from this fraud and tax.

Tell them to live within their means. VOTE NO

Mayor James Sanders speaking on why we should continue to fund a golf course that loses $1,000 per day.

"It brings in revenues"

With what? Another 1 cent sales tax? The tax to pay the IRS will not pass.

I agree, just that the article in the paper looked like it was trying to make a case to build a jail in Blytheville.

We have one. But some stupoos' decided instead of holding them in blytheville jail, they would haul them to the county and then haul them back here to turn them loose on us again.
Barb wire and secure the Blunder Bayou if they want a more comfortable place to hold their captives. Sounds as if that might bring in some revenue. Could be a holding place for the Harrison gang and their Momma's and sisters could visit on Sunday afternoons for a couple of years.

And Sanders arrogance to say we shouldn't let anger get in the way of paying the IRS. Is he serious?? guess the idiot thinks we are all just SOOOO Happy to tax ourselves to cover for all the crooks and inept embeciles that don't know nothin, but they sure knew how to rob us coming and going, knew when that paycheck was coming., and knew how to have us pay for a lot of their house repairs, and even lawn service, gas for their cars-Sheesh!!

the blytheville jail was not up to code. I was told that is one of the reasons they turned things over to the county.

Another stupid statement:

September 2, 2011
Sanders pointed out the audit showed deficiencies were in the mayor's office (Barrett Harrison at the time) and finance office (Faye Griggs at the time) and the city employees paid their taxes, so they shouldn't have to suffer because of another's actions.

"That's one of the reasons I'm looking at other avenues of trying to do this rather than going back to our employees even in the sense of layoffs, because these folks did what they were supposed to do,"
----------

So why do we, the taxpaying citizens, have to suffer?

Also September 2, 2011

"It's our duty now to be good stewards with what we have," Sanders said.

And yet he wants more, much more.

Mike Bearden on more lost money:

"Bearden said the city failed to pay the bonding company between $125,000-130,000 for the Greyhound Bus Station project. Since this $150,000 would be unanticipated income, not obligated for anything, I want to take care of this bus station debt without having to get a judgement against us," he said. "We don't have a defense to it. We owe it. That's a lot of money, but when you start looking at where all we owe, it's not that significant."

The Mayor almost made a reasonable decision. What happened?

"I've got to look at the greater picture and the greater picture is the entire city," Sanders said. "I do understand that it may affect a few people that golf and say these are some amenities they would like to keep. I'm not talking about throwing the golf course away. What we're talking about here is a situation of our economics. We need to be looking at remediating this problem so that the city as a whole can move forward and we protect the finances of the city, then be good stewards of what we have. I understand there are going to be some naysayers about this as a result of the golf course. Let me paint this picture to you: if we didn't do it, then the possibility could still be that they would come here and place a lien and sell it themselves. You've lost a golf course; you still didn't move forward with the amount of money that you needed to satisfy the tax and you still may have layoffs."

Just THINK. We are paying sales taxes now. Barrett's pension is to be paid with that,(@45,000 per year) Then we are to pay a new additional tax to pay the IRS that disappeared under him. All this while he is being paid $80,000 (plus perks, car, medical, travel, etc,) at the base.
IS THIS FAIR OR EVEN REASONABLE?????????
Repeal the pension ordinance!!!! Let him sue. See what happens when you get him into Court,

They all feed off our tax dollars. How can any one be sure the city owes the landfill. We have no way to record what is taken out there. Mosley is part of that deal , along with Knights. Mosley, Carney, Nathan, Knights, Ashmores are all good scam buddies are all involved in this together. Can charge anything they want to for as many loads as the wish to write down.......Sheets with different numbers.
