I did not hear the testimony, so am speaking only from what I have read. The sentence in this case is not harsh enough. It's the not jail time which is the issue, it's the defendant's ability to continue in this business.

I am a judge in another state who has heard many of these cases.

The defendant must be PREVENTED from pursuing this line of business. Her breeding operation must be shut down, and she must be prevented from ever owning another animal without court permission.

I am sorry she was able to violate the rules we all share in Minnesota for at least 10 years before being brought to trial.

And lastly, shame on the defense attorneys. A pleas should've been struck including getting out of the breeding business.

I agree with you Judge Gehl..!!...people that turn money by abusing a piece of nature etc...should have strict limits placed on their actions...the only problem I see is that other then the fact that these are cute little puppies they actually have a better place of raising then most of our food animals get..and we could take this right up the ladder to the ordeal of people like Octomom and people that have no business having kids...it will end one day...

Being an animal lover, I could not agree more with Judge Gehl. Since the allegations are true, given the conviction, it is inconceivable she did not receive jail time and a more significant fine.

I'm not sure if this is a joke, your name that is, but for those of us who value the enrichment an animal gives to our quality of life, it is not joking material. There are certain standards by which a civil society is evaluated, and one is the manner in which it treats its animals. Let's just say that Mike Vick and his ilk don't represent anything similar to civility in our culture.
Also, I meant to say shame on the prosecutors in this case, not the defense attorneys (although defense attorneys who take these types of cases are usually the same desperate lawyers who defend sex batt and child abuses cases)for not insisting that the sentence include getting this sick and demented money-grubbing woman out of the breeding business.

it seems to me that in many cases, animal cruelty is taken sooo lightly that it's just madness.. and it's sad that many people suport these puppy mills without even realizing it... for anyone who may be unaware; IF you are dead-set on purchasing a puppy from a pet store ASK the owner where they get the puppies..(although, don't expect the truth) b/c 99% of the time, those puppies come from puppy mills and by purchasing one, you're contributing to their nasty operations. not to mention, many of the dogs from mills have severe behavioral issues due to lack of socialization.

it's so much more humane to adopt a pet from a shelter or rescue.. and they makes the most wonderful pets...it seems that they're always so grateful and loyal... i would never get a pet form any where else.

I have a pepper mill and I love it. I use it all of the time.

How do I get a puppy mill? How does it make food taste?

They sell them in stores in Asian communities. They usually keep them behind the counter and you have to ask for them specifically. If you've ever had General Tsao's chicken you have a pretty good idea of the flavoring.

Great point I hope one person takes your advice and saves one dog that's a start.

Thanks Fred

One important thing I left out. Be sure that the puppy mill has the "authentic, genuine ginsu blades." If not, you'll have to send it out every couple of months to get it sharpened.

Actually, the organic is a bit gamey. I prefer the mass produced variety.
