that place s nothing but a joke... honestly the mans a coke addict his "wife" or whatever is a pill head and they run the place like a little boys club... so go on down there and have yourself a wonderful time... heard they get the good stuff. anyone who walks around sayin " i need drugs" and throwin tantrums like a 5 yr old must be really contributing to the community.

Not in to drugs so I don't know that part, but I do know there are some gays who hangs out there. I have been there twice and I got afraid they would think birds of a feather flock together, so I didn't go back again. Other wise, it is boring as hell.

I like it. Open mike is over for the year but will resume in Jan. As far as the drugs...NEVER seen any. GBHOA is a great contribution to Bluefield. Fun place and nice atmosphere.

Have you ever actually been there? Because my family and I go almost week and see no evidence of "the drug abuse, temper tantrums, pill popping, or other mischief." I believe sir or madame , have no appreciation for art, music or the human spirit. GBHOA is the best thing that has happened to you're shitty little town since they discovered coal. Please keep you ignorant comments to yourself. Jealousy is an evil motivator. Anonymity is a cowards shield.

Gary Bowling's House of Art, Inc. is a non-profit 501(c)(3) that is here to enhance the awareness and the beauty of Art. The mission for the House of Art is to educate and embrace art to the fullest extent. There are so many wonderful things that are happening in Mercer County. The House of Art is one of many places in Bluefield that is embracing the community and making a difference. I have been a volunteer for The House of Art for several months. As for some of the activities that happen I would have to say the best is Open Mic. On Wed nights we have awesome local talent come and perform creating an atmosphere unlike anywhere else. For those who have been here you know the astounding impact that it has on the community. We are also excited about the new restaurant that will be starting this Wed night. The Sugar Shack will be serving dinner on Open Mic nights and to my understanding they will also do lunch Tue threw Sat. As for some of the comments I have seen on here I have to say they are humorous, with out a doubt I know they are false. I must say that to those who just speak without any evidence or a true understanding it is slanderous. I also think of how sad it is for things that are brilliant in our community to be degraded by uneducated or sad people. I can only say to the community that if you want a true evaluation of Gary Bowling's House of Art you must just attend an event or come up and just enjoy the amazing local art.

I guess so, since it it a part of this amazing world. The lack of education and diversity in this area is shameful.

coke and pills dont go together, do they? it seems that would make a relationship not work out... and they work well together so u gotta be wrong on this one. Besides, if he was a drug addict why would he say he needs drugs, wouldn't he have them?

Open mic nights are great. I have seen everyone from 5 year-olds to 90 year-olds perform there in a spectacular environment. Pack up the kids, go have dinner and be entertained at GBHOA. You're gonna love it!

By the way, this is my first post on the blfld site. I dont care about anonymity, I posted the "yep" and the "nope" entries. My name is Teeya, and I go by "Halo Whitelight" in the worlds of skateboarding and art.

After I saw how vague those looked, from now on my entries will be submitted in my name.

People are always judging other people---But the judgers are usually the jealous people who sit on their behinds and condemn those that follow dreams and get success. They are the ones that sit back and do nothing thinking everyone owes them something.Hats off to gary bowlings house of art and the sugar shak for going the long haul to succeed. As far as drugs--they are everywhere---as far as gays- you could not ask for better friends. they accept you no matterwhat you are. You did not bring up how many husbands and wifes that are cheating in these places or why you were there. We talk only about what interests us-- right. so get off the bad mouthing and help our communities to be bigger and better without bad mouthing.

I love open mic night. I take my kids and they love the art and the music. My daughter loves Patch Whiskey's artwork and he is nice enough to spend time with the kids and teach them about art. It's a very confortable and accepting environment. I have several friends that perform on Wed. nights. It is a wonderful place.

OF COURSE you havent seen any of these things. You're there one night a week after they have all already been drinking....and continue drinking. I HAVE SEEN AND HEARD FIRST HAND OF THESE ACTIONS. Clearly it didnt work out so well since they're all gona. Maybe now the actual artists will have a chance huh? Instead of the same Gary sh*t being showcased. Maybe now someone who has contributed in an honest an sober way can be highlighted.
