Please only respond to this if you live within a Bluefield school district. Do you believe that Bluefield area schools suffer because there is no one from the Bluefield area on the Mercer County Schools Board of Education?

Everything goes to Princeton and Pikeview areas.

It only took Pikeview two years to get a small set of visitors bleachers installed at the football field, and nearly everything else concerning the athletic facilities (material and labor) was donated by businesses and individuals. We feel your pain!

Bluefield and the Montcalm areas get nothing. Kaufman is from Bluefield, but she does not care about one thing but getting jobs for her family members. Akers is a trip!

Akers should have been replaced long ago but that probably will never happen...her lies and the fiasco last winter with the 3 day severe weather warning and her letting "field trips" tie buses up and those kids at schools till late at night...she should have been replaced and then she got on TV and out and out LIED saying it was not predicted that bad....I use NWS at Blacksburg and they were warning WELL IN ADVANCE of storm hitting...They were within about half an hour of the hit with the prediction.

Graham fed lunch and loaded the buses sending all kids home well ahead of storms hit.
I really do feel Bluefield is considered second rate by the school Board in general.

I do think changes are needed in the board but do not worry that will never happen.

I know, What does Graham going home early have to do with Bluefield schools? Princeton, Pikeview, Montcalm and every other school got out at the regular time too. Not just Bluefield. So I fail to see how this has anything to do with Bluefield being treated any different than other schools in Mercer County.

I was not clear this was EVERY COUNTY SCHOOL and shows very poor administration. Those kids should have been out and home long before the storm.

I matters because Blfd WV and Blfd Va are sister cities, and the schools being so close, can only mean the weather was similar stupid! I agree, get rid of Akers and get some Blfd peeps in the BOE!

Since this forum is about Bluefield being treated differently than other county schools, it does matter. By the way, Glenwood and Princeton are just down the road. Bluewell is the other direction. Bramwell is the other direction. Is their weather so different from Bluefield's? I think not! Talk about the topic. Bluefield being treated different than other MERCER COUNTY schools, not Tazewell County. In case you didn't know that is a different county and a different state.

WTF are you talking about? I think you are just ranting for the sake of rant. All the above communities that you named, they all go to school controlled by Akers, idiot! The comment about Blfd Va was comparing the way that a school system with the same weather conditions that day, was managed so much better than Mercer Co, dipshit!

there is no reason for you to call other people names like idiot or dipshit. an educated person would find proper means to get a point across.

Nobody in either the rest of Mercer, or Tazewell counties, really needs to waste any effort or concern on Bluefield. You just toss a football at the typical Bluefielder, and they'll be as happy as a pig at the slop trough.

That's really all it takes. Don't believe it? Just recall a couple of months ago, or so, that, given all the desperate problems facing "Nature's Air-Conditioned City", the biggest concern was whether or not to rename the football stadium. And this controversy was largely driven by a group of so-called community "leaders"; people who have supposedly had Bluefield's best intrests at heart for decades. Supposedly...

Priorities. Priorities. Priorities. It's all about what matters to you..

This was a very small and narrow minded group that does not at all represent the citizens of Bluefield at all but a little click of self centered narrow minded people wanting not what is best BUT WHAT THEY WANT.

I do feel that there is preference going more so to Princeton than Bluefield schools or most other county schools and I as well do not feel Bluefield is at all represented by the one member that is on the board....I along with others feel the SUPT needs to be replaced and have felt this for some time...there sometimes just needs to be changes made.

man, i wasn't attacking you. i'm also not the same person that wrote the comment way earlier. now, there was no reason for you to call me an idiot. it seems the person before had a valid point about you calling people names.

Ohhhh, there's no doubt that Debbie Akers needs to go; she's been in the job too long, and she thinks that she can do no wrong. You get the "big head" (some people think maybe she got that swelled cranium about 20 years ago, along with her husband)in Mercer County, and instead of being shown the door, you get a six figure salary...

Maybe we need something like "term limits" on school superintendents. Of course, if people would quit automatically re-electing the same old tired faces back onto the school board, maybe things would be different.

Maybe...
