It is my opinion that it is these companies hiring illegals is the root of the immigration issue. Everyone gets mad at the Mexicans, but somebody's hiring them. I am not defending illegals, I wish they'd all get the hell out, but the fact of the matter is these AMERICAN companies who are only worried about the bottom dollar that hire this cheap labor are the ones indirectly allowing for this river of Mexicans to continue to flow freely across our boarders and lead them right to our jobs!

I say this about the construction industry inparticular. These companies are owned by your local 'good ole boy' but in order to compete they use cheap labor to underbid others who's workers are being paid better, but ultimately lose out for doing what is right for the community. And I see the business aspect of it, but it's wrong morally. It is these companies that need to have action taken against them.

I think here in Charlotte, if these construction companies get caught with illegals, they are fined thousands PER illegal. And they should!

I love the way that people have been programed to put the blame on the employers for hiring illegals. If the illegals have the "proper" paperwork and documentation, then what is an employer supposed to do? The dems in California are responsible for the ease in which illegals obtain such documents. They made it very easy for them to obtain driver's licenses, and made excuses for this, as usual, by saying that they would rather let them get a license, than to have them drive illegally. It was actually a tactic to get votes from illegals, as well as obtain employment more easily, which is also illegal. If they were not here to begin with, then the problem would not exist. We hear excuses for why this is impossible all day long, so they don't even really try, and the illegal voters know this. Both sides are vote whores. Any ideas we come up with, are shot down by libs trying to cry foul, using profiling for thier excuse so they can obtain more illegal votes. They try to rush, unfairly, thier ability to obtain citizenship, so they can call them legal, so they can become legal voters. Just keep blaming the employers, so the real culprits can get away with not doing thier jobs. Protecting our borders so they are not here to begin with. It's time to stop them from coming in. Don't tell me you can't do it, until you actually try. If done properly, I guarantee the numbers would decrease enough to help employ more actual Americans. You think the libs would want more tax money for their programs, but I guess votes are worth more to them than tax money.

If you know this and can prove it, why not turn him in to the labor board?

Cross the North Korean border illegally you get 12 years hard labor.
If you cross the Iranian border illegally you are detained indefinitely.
If you cross the Afghan border illegally, you get shot.
If you cross the Saudi Arabian border illegally you will be jailed.
If you cross the Chinese border illegally you may never be heard from again.
If you cross the Venezuelan border illegally you will be branded a spy and your fate will be sealed.
If you cross the Mexican border illegally you will be jailed for two years.
If you cross the Cuban border illegally you will be thrown into political prison to rot.
If you cross the United States border illegally you get:
1 - A job
2 - A driver's license
3 - A Social Security card
4 - Welfare
5 - Food stamps
6 - Credit cards
7 - Subsidized rent or a loan to buy a house
8 - Free education
9 - Free health care
10 - A lobbyist in Washington
11 - Billions of dollars in public documents printed in your language
12 - Millions of servicemen and women who are willing to – and do – die for your right to the ways and means of our constitution
13 - And the right to carry the flag of your country - the one you walked out on – while you call America racist and protest that you don't get enough respect

If there was not an incentive of being almost guaranteed a job when illegals cross the board there would not be so many of them here... Illegals know they can get jobs here by undercutting people who demand higer wages. It is the employeers who create this issue. Greanted if the boarders were secure it would slow this down, but people come here because they know they can get work.

Companies are to do background/identity checks on people they hire - sometimes even credit checks! I went thru this, why should everyone else not have to? This is the same as the law in Arizona that everyone is in a tiff about it... If I get pulled over I have to PROVE who I am (did it this morning when I got pulled over!)- why should some of us be subjected to this and others not?

Yep... They are so worried about being sensitive to every one else, they have completly walked all over the ones that really matter - the ones that work for "it" and protect "it".. We have freedom of religion here as long as you aren't Christian, we have freedom of speech here as long as you don't speak the truth....

Backround checks are not required, and are not practiced in the types of jobs illegal men usually do. In Arizona, if you have a driver's license, which is easy to get, then you are on your way. Employers do not create the issue. They do what they are supposed to do. If an illegal has a driver;s licence and an SS number, then they hire. Anything can be faked. We need to have incentives for them not to come here, such as a protected border and imprisonment for those that make it through. This would solve many problems. Hanging it all on an employer who follows the rules, yet has no way of confirming what is put in front of him is just a way of passing the buck by those who are not doing thier jobs by securing our borders.

I whole heartedly agree that our boarders being fully secured would hinder the issue, but it isn't going to make it go away. All those peole are here, they aren't going anywhere, and companies still willfully employ illegals. If the employer would take it upon them selves to make doubly sure of who they are hiring this would also hinder the issue... Also if not only the employeer is fined when illegals are uncovered, but also the illegal them self fined, I think this could help deter these people from coming here illegally...

How many people around Bluefield can pass a drug test, have a drivers license and are willing and able to work?

This problem is nationwide. People complaining about "illegals" taking jobs that no one else wants or can perform.

The article says that the DOL has checked the documents and that the workers are legal. Sounds like someone is just mad because this company is getting the majority of the work.

Can you imagine how expensive it would be if you had to pay each roofer as a skilled worker? Yhe unions will make everything sooo expensive you will not be able to afford to get any work done

Weebie, you misunderstood. Also, the way it works, is non-union or union, when you get a project funded with government dollars, in west virginia, you get "scale pay". Which means, you get paid very well, there are different pay scales, and pay rules any company that gets the project must abide by. The company in question is frye roofing. What they have done is fire or drive out almost all of their american workers, and hired immigrants in there place, all the while, getting jobs that were scale pay, bidding their workers in as laborer's, and paying them as laborers. Which under normal circumstances is fine, but under scale rules, a laborer does not use tools while on the job site, he "labors" (carrying materials ..etc). For the ones that advocate immigration, this company is screwing the immigrants, for the ones opposed to it, they have driven out some of the best roofers in the state. To give you another idea to the fairness of the company, one guy has worked there over 30 years, and is making the same as the immigrant "laborers" (low man on the totem) that is wrong....
well now
