There are many ways to solve problems, and it seems the city of Bluefield is trying to solve the problem with Food City the nice way. Food City has shown some very underhanded business dealings with the way that old Kroger building was handled. The news is ablaze with the unfair things cities do to their residents, and Food City should be dealt with the way they deal. Take for instance Eminent Domain; this is used a great deal by cities to take property and use for the greater good. Also, why does Bluefield not levy a high tax on buildings used for just storage or left vacant. Hey, everybody put your thinking cap on and come up with something LEGAL that can show Food City giants you don't go causing harm to small town USA. Spend your money in WV, as none of those businesses can thrive without WV money. Picketing??? Meanwhile, just take your cash down to Grants on the AVE. I think Bluefield WV needs to wise up and quit spending money in VA. nuf said.

I agree and I think they need to get DOWN AND DIRTY with food city since that is all food city knows to do in SHAFTING many people that really depended on a store in that location and needed that. Hit them with any kind of tax or fine possible-if none exists then ENACT ONE and make them as UNWELCOME as hell.

We do not want or need food city and we need to QUIT spending anything on the VA side where we can. I go to GRANTS and that is the STORE WE NEED and could have had if the nasty dirty foodcrapcity had not made this mess.
I am only one person BUT I will never at anytime -not now or EVER-shop at this or any other food city again. I will spend what I have at GRANTS and let my dollar be my vote AGAINST FOODCRAPCITY!

It's simple. The City of Bluefield, WV is run by a bunch of morons who have no clue how to attract and keep business. They are so stuck on revitalizing that cest pool of a downtown that they will never do anything but drive Bluefield into ruin. Best thing Bluefield, WV could do is request annexation into VA.....

And, were you ever taught how to focus on a subject? Back to kindergarten when you had to learn politeness, you were also taught to stick to the subject. This is about how Food City and how the pulled a crooked deal on Bluefield WV. If you just wish to rant why don't you go to one of the sites that like to rant about politicians. This is about the good people of Bluefield who have watched a big corporation run over them, cheat them out of a WV side grocery store, and just generally do harm to the citizens of Bluefield WV. Perhaps therapy could help , and teach you how to be a nice person.

Food City is evil and will be loosing 400 dollars a month from me. I would drive to Princeton before I shop at Food City. Maybe we should have a Pizza Hut Day the day before Christmas and everyone buy a pack of gum inside the Food City. Crowd the parking lot while supporting them. LOL

Bluefield Virginia has one spot to shop and the rest of Bluefield Virginia is dead. So comparing Bluefield Virginia to Bluefield West Virginia is a sad way to win an arguement. Bluefield Virginia has sold it's soul for minimum wage jobs. How much tax money from the state of Virginia has caused this to happen? Corporate welfare at it's finest while businesses like Walmart kill America.

I went into my first Grants the other day, and I don't see what the huge appeal is. They only have a few choices of products and if they aren't cheapy knock offs the prices are outrageous. They only had like two choices for female deodorant and shaving cream and the cost was way more than Food City or Walmart. If you want knock off snack foods, I could see where Grant's could be like heaven to those complaining... I'll stick with Food City where the selection is great, prices reasonable and customers are for the most part normal.

I do and shop at that GRANTS and the main problem there is parking is small and the store itself is too small to stock many things Grants normally carries in larger stores. The store is in a bad part of town but going in daylight hours should not be a problem.
Speaking of RACE do you realize the black folks were ones hurt the most by the greed of food city-do you realize how many black folks shopped regular at Kroger location and how many rode the bus to shop there....
This is not a racial issue it is not a town against town issue it is an issue against a CROOKED BUSINESS which affects every one of us.

Krogers on Cumberland Road was a cesspool and I (and many other people) stopped shopping there long before it closed. It was poorly managed and not very clean. There is a reason it was closed. Food City is clean, well stocked and very well managed I will shop there anytime I want and you idiots can shop any where you want. The parking lot at the old Krogers on Cumberland Road was poorly designed and dangerous for elderly people. If you want a store in Bluefield WV find a spot and build one that is safe, clean and well run like Food City did and then maybe you can compete, in the meantime shut up the bitching and moaning. People have already "voted with their dollars" Madame Mayor and they did not vote for you. Case closed.

Food city IS THE CESSPOOL and it smells to high heaven literally which hits people in the face when they walk in the doors sometimes you can smell it in the parking lot as doors open.

Kroger was BADLY managed and I will never disagree on that-that is Krogers fault and they never saw or corrected that...was NOT CLEAN I agree BUT that was the last year and again the MANAGER(or lack thereof) never BOTHERED to get after the cleaning service to do any better.I complained to her several times the floors were nasty and (dirt buffed) and slop mopped and she NEVER even attempted to correct that. That IS a part of any managers job even if they employ a cleaning service.

Well, I love Food City and the selection. It is always clean and well stocked. They sell fresh seafood so sometimes you can smell it, deal with it by staying away. You sound like a complete lunatic.

Kroger is a much larger company than Food City, which only has stores in three states, at least three other locations are next to the WV state line up to Kenova, Kroger is in half of the US. I say Kroger is more powerful and can knock FC to its knees, it competes in Kroger territory but it is small regional and based around Bristol. Kroger was once in Bfld, Va as well.

That Kroger was about 35-40 years old and was showing its age, was built when the original Kmart was built, the Kroger in Bluewell intercepted the customers in that area as well as McDowell and only relied on Bluefild, WV. Kroger had more investment in Princton location keeping it up to date.

Bluefield WV is just not as big as it used to be before suburban shopping centers were created keeping customers out of the city. Bluefield is not the only town where shopping choices are across state lines, Williamson is the same way, all are over in KY and FC exists there as well. Wheeling areas main shopping center is in Ohio

Hey dummy, at least Bluefield Va.has jobs. Those jobs and businesses have purchased new police cars, fire trucks, street pavement and many other things. The WV side is dying and wish they had some business like the Va side.
