Has anyone seen a black student beinsg accepted into BSC's nursing program. Not me..... I meet all the requirements but cant get accepted and know one has a reason!!!!! its obvious.... racism.
Bsc, is a historically black college they should jump and be happy to take in a successful black student. Do you see one black person working in Dickinson hall, No!

if it were racism we would have no blacks in nursing...and there are black people in the classes now...perhaps you should call the faculty in charge of admissions in nursing and ask them why...maybe you dont have something and if you get it youll be accepted or something...we just got re-accredited and a few things had to be added for admission...i really dont think there is racism in the department but i could be wrong

Just cause you "meet" requirments doesn't mean you should get accepted. I don't know much about the program, other than it's good, so I'd say it's pretty competitive.

EX: Say the school requires a 2.0 to be accepted, however, judging by the amount of applications you need a 3.0 to even be considered.

What's you're gpa? Did you have any community service on your application? Did you have GREAT references? Would you honestly be able to say, all your past professors have something good to say about you?(You work hard, great student etc etc.) Theres a lot more that goes into play than you think. Don't meet the bare minimum requirements, you have to stand out and appeal to the board.

and PS: You're a college student, put the race card away and stop acting like an ignorant child. That shit pisses me off. Lifes not fair for anyone, no matter their ethnicity. So blame others all you want for YOUR uncompleted goals, you're never going to get anywhere. If you want to succeed in life, white or black, work you're ass off and be thankful for what you have. Live on, and hopefully your day will come.

It's about time a black got refused something in this world. Isa gets so tired of hearing about racism. Not everything has to do with color. Maybe you just not good enough.

You people get the biggest breaks in life and still complaining. What more do ya want? Slavery was 100's of years ago. Get over it already.

We get just as many breaks being white and we complain, as a country, more than anyone in the world. If its hot we want it to be cold if its cold we want it to be hot. Black people are overlooked in many aspects simply because their color. Racism is a big problem here, but I dont think thats the case in the nursing program. Its very difficult to get in and like a previous post said the gpa is a big role plus what classes you have had before. 2.0 gpa is required but if you have 50 people applying and 30 of them have a 3.0+ and you have a 2.0 with the bare minimum you probably wont be accepted over 1 of the 30 that have more than required just as the bluefield state site says.

I just couldn't help but laugh when I read that the nursing program at BSC is racist. Do you know that one of the instructors is married to a black man? She even has children by him. Oh the horror. BSC is not racist. It is just difficult to get into any nursing programs. I know people that have tried to get in at BSC, Wytheville & Southwest in the nursing programs. Maybe you should try & apply at those schools also. I, too, am sick of the racist card being played. We have a black president don't we? America could not be too prejudice for that to happen. I have a very good friend that refused to put that she is black on any of her college applications, for the simple fact that she has never wanted any special treatment. Everyone has the same opportunities in life, its just how you use those opportunities that count.

there is a black student in it right now...there were 2 but one claimed the racism card and is no longer in the program on her own will and the other is doing very well...perhaps its not many black people apply or they just dont qualify. And actually come to think of it one colored person, i dont say black because they have several ethnicities just graduated...its not racism because whites, hispanic, asians, etc get rejected just the same...last year hospitals took interns and i only know of 5 that got it, no males got it, its not sexism its just how it went because the females were better fit for the position.

I made it! ur wonderful and its nice to here a rational perspective. I hear the racism thing all the time its more than race its how you walk talk act people dislike white thugs just as much as black ones. maybe even more. No one likes a loud belligerent redneck either. I know some of the most upstanding blacks from the bluefield community and their treated with respect and admiration. Because they have dignity and respect for themselves and others. Now if you look at the votes for Obama- McCain this could be off a few percent Blacks voted 90 percent or better for Obama then McCain. Whites were close to even 52 percent McCain 48 percent for obama. Whos prejudice. So lets realize what we really get rejected for, stop making excuses and learn to represent ourselves as professionals better because this is what we all hope to become.

Congratulations on getting accepted into the nursing program. It shows your determination & excellence above the ones that applied who were not accepted. BSC has a top rate RN program & only the best get in. Again, I would like to say congratulations.

As a BSC graduate from the nursing program, I have to say there is no racism going on. The 2 year program is tough and you have to be better than average to get in. As for who works where I have no idea. But I do know that next years graduating nursing class has a black woman as the president. And it is also true that one of the intructors is married to a black man that also happens to be a doctor. They do have children and one of them also works at the college.

Maybe when you interview you come off as having an attitude....

I always hate it when someone plays the race card when they dont get something.

That could be true as well. I find that when people think people have a bias against them they act like they have something to prove and just come off as a jerk. If nobody has dropped the N-bomb or any other racial slur then why think racism. As someone else said there is a nursing faculty member married to a black person and has mixed children. Nurses deal with every color, religion, and type of person there is out there, theres no room to be racist or biased in anyway

Another worthless post by someone who thinks the world owes them something. If you want to make something of yourself then stop whining, stop blaming and get off your lazy azz and do something.

Don't let life pass you buy while your stuck in a trap with the rest of the worthless people around here.

Just cause they accept one black person that doesn't mean there is no racism its just a cover up. Have ever walk on third floor in Dickinson hall look at the picture how many black faces u see. Racism still exist... You think because we have a black president that black has more privileged its still cover just to make you to shut up .

Well maybe I am just blind to the fact of racism, since it is not something that I deal with in my life. No, I know that racism does still exist. Just not to the extreme that some people like to pretend it does. Unfortunately, racism will never be gone from society, but the more people harp on it the more you get the racist stirred up & then it gets out of hand. I do not support racism, never have & never will. But their are just as many black racist at there are white & I have experienced that in my life.

As one who has helped students enter the BSC Nursing program, it is very competitive. I know one year they only accepted one student from a secondary school and she graduated her high school with better than a 4.0 average. This was possible as she had completed several advanced placement classes including advanced math classes on the college level.

There was no racism involved, only hard work. One student I helped applied for three years and finally got in only after she attended BSC two years and completed all core classes with almost a 4.0 average and then she was lucky to get in. She proved herself. One has to be willing to pay the price for what you want. Hard work and the ability to write a complete sentence always helps. The ability to express oneself in such a manner without talking or writing as if you are texting is very necessary.........oh well..........just my thoughts. I wish you luck.
