we need to ask all our friends, co-workers and family members to stop buying the products distributed by flowers. If they can't afford to build a new building and keep the current employees working, then we should really let them see what it feels like to let their products sit on the store shelves. Can someone post a list of other products besides bread.

By not buying flowers products, who do think will be the first to be laid off? Not the executives it will be the working folk.

yeah the delivery people and the people at the distribution office will be the ones paying for a boycott, the bigwigs will probably be getting a big bonus for closing the bakery and cutting costs(on paper).

The news is true. My husband and my dad got the news today that they will no longer have a job after Friday. Closing the bakery does away with about 130+ jobs.

Is this going to effect all the employees or just the ones in production ? Are the office employees, the relay drivers, and shipping employees losing their jobs also ? I will be keeping these employees in my prayers.

One article says there are 164 employees. I don't guess it would have named the number if it wasn't going to get them all. Oh my God this a tragedy for this area. WOW! And nice of them to give so much notice huh?

Sorry to hear about everyone at the bluefield branch losing their jobs. I've been an independent for years now and have gotten to know quite a few of you guys up here. I hate to see thus bakery close. You guys are a great bunch people and hope that everything works out for each and everyone of you guys and may god bless you all.

It's been known up there for a while. It really isn't a surprise. And it is only going to affect the production and shipping employees mainly. Many of the truck drivers will be moved to knew home bakeries and the office peeps will just be transfered. Plus they are getting paid for another 2 months. They'll find something.

Actually, you don't know too much. My husband is a truck driver and they are not being transfered, they lost their job. Office people aren't either.

Well stand corrected. My apologies. I assumed that the relay drivers would just be shifted and drive from the new bakeries to the warehouse. As for the office, I meant the president, vice president, sales managers, etc. I don't see them canning them either, although I could be wrong.

Who knows what will be the final result-I have heard rumors and more rumors for a couple of years they were closing, but bet management comes out on top - management always does.I really hate that for those that are loosing jobs, that is awful for anyone especially after a long time at a company.
Because of things like this people are fast learning not to be loyal to any company because they could care less about you in any way.Job security does not exist anywhere anymore-many are a payday away from job loss.A friend once said it this way-loosing a job is a phone call away!

While the folks there should have suspected this may happen the company was dirty to throw it at them like they did. They could have been nice enough to give a 30 day notice however by offering the salary extension I guess they wormed around the federal requirement of giving notice of closure of a certain number of days if you had a certain number of employees.

The really sad part today is company's want employees to be company loyal and work long hours when the co wants but the truth is no one cares anything about the employee's no matter how many years no matter how loyal--- their job loss or termination remains a phone call away(or a letter)!
The fact today is there is no job security.....sad.
