Exactly, Exit 9 says thanks...thanks for taking land and making a 5-6month out of the year recreation complex that benefits up the road, and not selling it to a motel/restaurant complex.

Yes, those potential 1000 people crowds will help Bluefield.

Yeah, and when they have all the big tournaments all of those players, parents, and families stay and dine in Princeton and drive from exit 9 to exit 1 for the game and back. You can stay in a nice safe hotel right off the interstate, lots of nice places to eat, gas, strip club for the soccer dads, Visitors center, Wal-Mart, everything you need and want except a movie theater. I look for that to come soon since bluefield cannot keep cinemas 8 clean, quiet, and frome being robbed at gun point lol.
Look Bluefield just does not have anything to offer all of the people who travel to that complex, they all come to Princeton. The complex is great, the rest of the town and the mini-detroit look and feel just does not appeal to the soccer mom crowd.
How many years did that land just sit there undeveloped before they put in the soccer complex? Plus how many businesses have tried to come to blfd wv? That's why all the businesses are in blfd va and Princeton.

The article in Telegraph is interesting. East River Soccer Field brings many opportunities to area. As for real estate, Bluefield does not need to invest in land. Bluefield needs to clean up and Rebuild on sites and improve lots already owned. We do not need more housing and we have plenty of business sites to accommodate. I agree with having exit leading to Bluefield but I understand Mercer County as a whole cannot benefit if leaders are not willing to appeal to visitors.

Bluefield doesn't have that much land that isn't absentee owned. Someone put it on the BDT that they could use the hospital funds to buy land and create jobs and BO tax revenue.

I think the soccer complex may bring some visitors, but this area needs more than that. Bluefield's decay will spread to Princeton because folks this isnt a big area like where I am from - Phoenix.

Phoenix in it's city limits has more people than WV. Bluefield and Princeton seem to have a stupid rivalry that is holding up the region. Dissolve both towns and work to develop all the exits in Mercer County not just that one with Lowes.

Phoenix, you must have a degree from The University of Phoenix (means your dumb). Your post makes no sense. Bluefield 's decay is not going to spread to Princeton because Princeton has capitalized on its location and has an influx of visitors. Look at all the buses and out of state plates at BP and cracker barrel. Why would Princeton ever want to merge with Bluefield? What does Bluefield have to offer that is going to benefit Princeton? Nothing. Princeton is on the up swing and Bluefield is circling the bowl goin down the tubes. It is hard to imagine Bluefield in 10 or 20 years.

Correct me if im wrong but the reason for no development n that section is because of the tunnel, cant do any blasting or anything near it,that probably is one good reason

Blasting? What they hell do you want them to build a journey to the center of the earth? All the businesses they have built in Princeton and not once have I had my windows rattled by explosives to put in a new gas station, restaurant or hotel.

Does anyone know how much money was spent to build the complex. It is amazing and im glad to head it's getting plenty of use. Though it is a shame about not having any gas stations, hotels or restaurants nearby.

The soccer complex should be moved elsewhere and off from prime commercial real estate. The county is losing millions by not having exit 1 developed.

Thank goodness someone cares enough about our youth to put up recreation facilities. The kids sit around doing video games as it is so the soccer complex gives them some physical activity. I know Bluefield State, Bluefield High School, Graham High School all use it and Mercer Christian uses it occasionally as does Princeton High. Probably, Bluefield Middle does too. It is used a lot during the summer and it is something we can be proud of. To move it would cost a lot of money. Besides when land goes up for sale, as long as the buyer is within code, then they have the right to do whatever with their land. No one else apparently wanted it or was willing to pay the price. So glad to have it for the children!!!!

The land was purchased many years ago by two local doctors who had a passion for soccer. They developed the land in an effort to bring a new sport to the youth of Mercer County. It is now considered the top recreation league soccer complex in the area. The doctors have since retired and moved away but left the complex as a donation to the soccer association. It really is a nice complex with several fields and always clean. As a matter of fact, I remember when UNC had a game there. There are approximately 800 grade school kids that use the facilities. I am unsure of the number of middle and high school students. It really is a source of pride for Mercer County.

As for development, it seems there is plenty of land around that area. I'm not sure. I agree with one post though that there plenty of run down buildings and lots that could be used. A lot of those old buildings are an eye sore.
