My child attends Daniel Young Elementary School, 2 blocks from where this shooting happened. The shooting happened approximately 30 minutes before my child was released from school to board the bus and other children were ALLOWED to walk home from school. All of us parents who only found out via 5PM news, are livid and are now questioning our children's safety at this school.

I live RIGHT next to what happened today and I'm more concerned on the boy than the school. Yeah it sucks but your child will be fine since the kids couldn't even walk by there anyways and no one knew what was going on until way later so chill out. Move if your so scared that your kid is gonna get hurt even though the cops were all over the area.

Actually it happened when the school was out. We were outside and the kids were getting off the bus. I don't know where you got the 30 minutes before. But the kids here were already out of school and off the bus. I live on 2nd street. So there was nothing the school district could have done

I picked my son up at Daniel Young Elem.@ 3:35 and just when we got up on 7 hwy going N. we had to pull over for 7 emergency vehicles going S on 7hwy. I don't know what the bus drivers could have done except taken the children back to school. We love the school and have lived here for 20 years.
As far as the neighborhood I no longer walk alone since my son was "jumped" by a large group of late teen boys just "hanging out" on Shamrock Dr. as he walked our dog. FYI: Blue Springs does NOT post in the paper all the crime.

Folks, it (major crime) has arrived to the subburbs and it is here to stay. I grew up in the Lee Summit school district and married a graduate of Blue Springs high. My 2 children graduated thru the Blue Springs school district. Times have certainly changed. If you have a clean background, buy a gun get a CCW permit. You are going to need it. Thugs are living everywhere now.

No I don't live in Jeff. City I am in rural Cass county, 25 minutes from Blue Springs. A few months ago I legally purchased 2 handguns for self defense for my wife and myself. 357 Magnum and 38 special. Save your money and buy 9mms. You are going to need protection from now own. All on needs to do is watch the news daily.

Very true stealth. I live in blue springs and it is by far not a dangerous city but any where at any time you can placed where you need to protect you family from severe physical harm or death. This is the reason that I am a proud gun carrying citizen. You can get a firearm and the training to use it, and have it with you at all times, or you can call the police and hope they are close. Remember when seconds count the police are only minutes away. This is by far not an attack on the police, I have worked for many years closly with them and have nothing but respect for what they do but it is impossible for them to be every where at every moment. If enough people arm themself than thugs will start to thing twice.... "is this worth maybe getting shot."

We should be praying for the 21 year old victim and focusing on finding the shooters so the area will be a safer neighborhood. Bad things happened to good people in every town!!
no surprize here

No surprize here. Blue Springs is getting as bad as anywhere. And its only gonna get worse. The problem is that MOST not all people in B.S. thinks that mom and dads money will bail them out. My ex step daughters boyfriend was arrested over 30 times for domestic violence on several different teenage girls,3 of which he had children with at the ripe old age of 21 in B.S. and never spent a day in jail.

Blue Springs schools are fine. This happened just BEFORE school let out and the bus was not allowed to come down our street and therefore returned the kids to school.

This has been happening on our street for YEARS, it's different kids who want to get involved with stupid people who do stupid things. What about the kids who play outside in our neighborhood?

By the way, the 21 year old victim survived surgery last night but is in very, very critical condition. How about we focus on the victim here?
Say a prayer for someone who may have made some poor choices thus far in life, but didn't deserve to be shot. He's a good kid inside with parents that didn't participate in his life like they should have. He also has a child that could lose a father. How about we don't perpetuate the madness and violence???

as for daniel young it is a great school and there is nothing more they could have done. as for our neighborhood we live in a family focused area and this could happen anywhere. we all need to stop blaming everyone else and start praying for a speedy recovery and that the shooter is found.if you don't like our neighborhood anymore then maybe you should move.
