Hope no one is hurt to bad. It does not surprise me the way the bus drivers drive. They are all in a hurry, Slow down you have kids on that bus. I have been cut off before by them, I swear they all think they have the right away no matter what.

I agree steve. I was run off the road by one in blue springs and into a persons yard. many of them have "coming through! get out of my way!" attitude. i dont see this many dump trucks drivign this way at all.

I know this driver, and can tell you that something had to happen to cause this. Don't bash the driver yet.

My wife also drives for Blue Springs and has been assaulted by kids while trying to drive her bus. She almost crashed because of that. She has had things stolen. Had to break up fights and even been sent to the hospital from one kid. So before you slam them for doing what they do. I challenge you to take on a load of teenagers for $14/ hour and then try to control them and that bus too.

The driver's have a great responsibility and most of them take it VERY seriously. Give it time to unfold before you accuse please.

I used to be a school bus driver years ago. I was fortunate enough to have a special education kids route. I didn't have to deal with out of control teens, but I heard some horror stories.(This is one reason I taught my kids to behave, and that any bus violation would not be tolerated)
We were taught some great skills in driving class that I still use today.
However that being said, I too have seen bus drivers being rude. I am one to leave enough room for a vehicle on the road, can't say the same for some school bus drivers. They have the same rules of the road, but don't always observe them.
I have seen buses speeding to name one violation.
I have actually had a school bus on my rear, driving in a 25mph which I was going, but the bus was closing in on me, it does tend to make one nervous.

Do we need bus assistants on all buses? It certainly sounds like we do. This lady has been driving the school bus for 30 years. This really was, most probably, a weather related accident.

Your wife is one of the few (just like other drivers on the road, a few good ones). I speak only of the buses i have seen speeding down the road. The kids acting up is exactly why I do not have a job driving a bus. I would scrub the floor with a toothbrush before I did that job. If her bus is that unruly, she should stop until things calm down, if they don't, call law enforcement. Maybe these bus companies will learn they need to have an officer on these buses. Security of some kind. Good luck to your wife and I'm glad to hear she is ONE that repects her job.

I was at this accident this morning and I tell you what after I was released to go I went home and took my own child to school. There was not another vehicle involved and I am sure it had to do with the weather HOWEVER all though this bus driver may be a good driver and this is why we call them accidents BUT I agree just in the year 2010 I have counted 7 accidents in Blue Springs involving school buses and unfortunately the other six were right in front of the bus hub crossing 2 lanes of traffic coming at you at 55 MPH. This is very scary to us parents that rely on these drivers to get our children to school and home again safely. If there is a problem on the bus then I suggest they pull over and call the police may put the driver behind but you know what!? NOBODY IS HURT!!! The children that were taken to the hospital were the only ones on the bus. I feel for everyone in this accident this morning including the bus driver but NO amount of money or craziness is worth getting hurt over. I also want to say job well done with all the people who stopped to help in this matter as it happened 3 hours ago I was not involved and I am STILL shaking over it

It is very terrifying. I take my own daughter to school, not because of Bus Safety, but it's my guaranteed 10 minutes a day. Safety is something of great concern to the Blue Springs bus company and I can tell you they work very hard at it. When a problem arises they pull over as soon as safely possible, but kids throwing things on a bus don't think how hard it might be to park a vehicle of that size. Sometimes it may also be necessary to continue on to the school if the driver feels that being alone on a roadside with a bus full of unruly students is a greater risk. The school resource (police) officers are called out to the buses if needed and they respond very quickly. The bus radios are linked to the police department.

My biggest point is let the information unfold first and if a driver is at fault, then the responsibility is what it is. But too many people jump to that criticism too early without putting themselves in the driver's place.

Thoughts are with all involved, it is a scary thing for everyone.

I work in the gas station at the top of the hill from where this happened and was the first on scene. from what i saw, the bus was in the turn lane and did not realize it until it was too late and slid when she tried to hit the brakes. was one of the more severe wrecks i have ever seen.

I go to the school they were transporting too and from what i heard this is that bus drivers 4th wreck. Students told me the bus driver always speeds and is very reckless. were all hoping this is her last year driving because i had a friend who was on the bus. the 5 students were taken to the hospital with minor cuts and bruises but the busdriver was in critical condition when she left the scene. and yes i got to blue springs south so its the inside scoop.

i was by no means commenting ont his driver. just stating my observations and expiriences.

i agree, that place on 40 is a nightmare, even if you dont have a bus. i think they are moving to 40 hiway though, with a stop light.

good point, there needs to be some action somehow on discipline as well.

I was actually on the bus when the accident happened and saw it coming, and the five of us students have all been treated for our injuries (broken nose, fractured nose, split lip which required 25 stitches, hurt wrist, and possibly displaced jaw). All I can say is we were going way too fast and our bus driver must not have seen the red light or something. She tried to turn on a wet road going about 50 mph, and we just slammed into that pole and all of us slammed into the seats in front of us.
And Rachel's right: our driver is not a very safe driver (maybe some bus drivers are, i don't know, I've had the same one since kindergarten), and she's been in accidents and near accidents many times before. I still hope she's okay, but I think she needs to be taken off the road. If that light hadn't been red, she would've ploughed into cars that would've been in the intersection, and the crash would've been much worse.

I pulled my child from the BS bus early this year. I was upset of the things going on on the bus. I have watched the buses speed around corners and not stop at stop signs coming to and from school. I am glad my kid is off the bus. I am sure there are many good drivers but when it comes to someone elses kid, slow down! I hope the district will do some extra training.

I live right by this intersection and Its a bad one It needs to be redone and fixed.I have had my kids on BS buses for 16 years.Ive seen good drivers and bad.Just as with all street drivers. In my opinion all the buses need the driver to drive and a ride along to watch the kids. Its a hard job.I am not going to say what happened if she was going too fast or weather related BUT as residents of BS when you see a bus driver driving crazy too fast or running people off the road call the bus barn and report it. They have cameras that can be pulled on all buses and dispatch to the PD. It was an accident and Im sure they will investigate it and pull the tape.Im just glad noone was seriously hurt. But folks when you see a maniac bus driver in a hurry parent or not call the bus barn.Thats what we can do to try to make BS a safe community for our kids.Ive even called and reported bus drivers that I found to be doing a great job.It goes both ways....bad drivers good drivers. It is a hard job and I say we need to get ride alongs.Bus drivers cant drive keep an eye on the road and deal with kids jumping around.I have wondered why the buses do not have seat belts? Anyone else ever wonder that, perhaps theres a reason Im just unaware of it.

Im so glad none of you kids were hurt and if this driver has a history and was speeding she needs to get off the road agreed. Im glad you are OK :)
