I think it's foe. Look at the direction our school system is going. Our School Board did not do a complete and thorough background check on our last superintendent and look what it got us into. A harassment lawsuit? So what do we do to cover this up and to save our butt . Now we put the good ole boy system in and started hiring family of board members for assistant superintendents to try to save our butts from losing this election. I think the people of the county needs to step up and stop this chaos in our school system. According to Georgia law family members cannot serve on board members and be in administrative positions. So is the school board trying to slip this by the citizens of this County? I think people really needs to look at what's going on and not let them destroy the integrity of our school system. Please give your comments Friend or Foe? Thank you for understanding my point of view and their viewpoints of other people who are afraid to speak out because it may cost them their employment with the school system.

Just went and voted early. Voted NO on esplost. There's enough being given away to members of families there. They have drove this charade into the ground enough!

What is "being given away to members of families"?

ESPLOST is for purchase of "stuff", such as pig barns, "art" centers, and buses. It cannot be used for repairs or maintenance. It cannot be used for salaries.

But studies show that throwing more money at stuff does not enhance a students education. And a
students quality of education is most definitely suffering according to independent international agency ratings of the educational achievements of American students. Only home schooled students maintain acceptable education standards and they do that without any "stuff".

If what you said at the end about Ga. Law and board members and being in administrative positions then need to contact the state school board superintendents office and they will come and investigate. UCS that's the harassment law suit is a headache wait until the state comes in snooping around.

Did anyone else receive the "Union County CARES" Vote NO on May 22nd card in the mail today? Totally agree!!

Summary of "card" contents:
School age children population NOT growing, projected growth is 4.69% thru 2050. 65+ age group growth 29%. School facilities do NOT need to expand.
SPLOST has not kept property taxes down. School millage rate up 39% since district established in 1998. Much greater than inflation.,
SPLOST only for capital projects so repairs are not made, only replacement. Called enhancement, expansion, etc. by school board.
No way to substantiate 35% to 40% of tax is paid by outsiders. Can't be tracked!
No one knows exactly how the SPLOST money is spent due to lack of transparency by school board.
Union County already spends 19.66% more per student that the state average. This does NOT include the free breakfast and lunch program or the SPLOST.

Union County CARES only advocates giving SPLOST a break. If the School Board can demonstrate that the $21,000,000 is positively needed in can be voted back in.

Let me give some of you some free advice from someone that's followed politics and news very closely for over 30 years. I gave my kids this over 20 years ago. You NEVER EVER vote to tax yourself under any circumstance. Can you not see how totally corrupt and fraudulent they abuse their power and OUR money at every level and both sides of the aisle. The waste, fraud and abuse is monumental. If you vote to tax yourself and the rest of us then you are a total dumbass

Example:
SPLOST is nothing more than the comish's personal slush fund of make work projects to benefit himself and his cronies. So drive by the earth moving project across from Wendy's. Was this project on the SPLOST approved project list, as required by state law? Probably not. Was it let on competitive bid, as required by county codes? Probably not. Do we need it, whatever "it" is? Probably not.

Is ESPLOST money spent in the same way? Most definitely!

Why vote no? The taxes would be the same. The children enjoy the benefits from ESPLOST. Union County has one of the best school systems in Georgia and students enjoy going to school here. That would be ruined by all of you idiots who donít read into things like this.
