The Paper today has an article about the Parcels in front of Cooks being sold to 1) A chain restaurant and 2) A fast food Restaurant. Anyone know who? Longhorn? Arbys?

Word around town is Longhorn and Popeyes. You hear so much garbage it is hard to know what to believe though. Longhorn would do well here, another chicken place I am not so sure about.

I heard it is going to be a strip club, with all local girls being employed to slide down the pole?

Longhorn would be pricey for a low budget town like Blairsville, and highly unlikely. That's why we have so many fast-food joints. A Captain D's and Dairy Queen would be successful, about the only fast-food places not currently here. Just being realistic.

Longhorn's is great. Its a sit down restaurant without a drive thru. Appeals to family and a great place for a business lunch.

I wouldn’t be opposed to a Bojangles or Popeyes. KFC is too fatty and salty. As for chains, I have no idea.

I agree that processed food is too salty. There was a hospital grill over an hour away that had good options to what fast food usually offers. Turkey burgers, veggie burgers, grilled chicken with the toppings of your choice. It took a little longer in line than the next door fast food but much more satisfying and healthy. Ground round and sirloin are good for burgers now and then. Maybe Americans have eat too much red meat. Nathan's for hot dogs (less sodium). Bake the taters rather than fry. However, we don't always have time or care to make good options.

That wouldn't work at all!
Other than their own lascivious step-father's, who would want to look at nearly nude, pathetic and malnourished teenage unwed mothers?

Union County is full of retirees subsisting on fixed income and social security checks. That is why there is so much subsidized government housing available, with more on the way. The few that have greater disposable income and can afford a meal at Longhorn aren't enough in number to keep the doors open, or keep help that is already hard to find. Those who own businesses locally you'll likely find eating lunch @ home; on the job; or one of the many affordable establishments in town.

Personally I'd love a Longhorn locally, but demographics don't support it.

Jennifer in Lamar's office said it was going to be a Dairy Queen.

And the old Steve's Steakhouse building was going to be demolished and a Fred's discount store was going in, with a pharmacy.

I agree with most of your post. Most small towns have attracted retiree age citizens. They do enjoy eating out at least one meal a day. I see many retiree patrons at Longhorn in surrounding counties. There is a menu choice for less than $10 however, other menu choices like steak are a bit more. A fast food meal other than breakfast is almost $10.

"I see many retiree patrons at Longhorn in surrounding counties."

There are Longhorn locations in Ellijay (Gilmer County), Dawsonville (Dawson County) and Gainesville (Hall County), which are the closest locations to Union County. Gilmer, Dawson & Hall counties are substantially larger than Union County; have higher median incomes; and have a lower percentage of retirees. Your argument is bogus ! You'll see a Longhorn franchise in Murphy or Blue Ridge before Blairsville. Take it to the bank !

If you want a $10 or less menu, FATZ is where its at !

Wht when something new is being built you have to wait till the sign goes up and opens till you know what it is.

Retirees in Blairsville are not poor. They all drive expensive cars and live in very nice homes. If a Longhorn comes to town, it would do well. There is not a good reasonably priced Steak anywhere in Blairsville. Fatz, I am sorry to say, does not have good Steaks.

Dan's Grill now does steak on Fridays, and they are not only excellent, but reasonably priced ...

You are correct about Fatz and their steaks. Not good at all. Their ribs are equally tasteless.

There isn't a single place in this county that serves a high quality steak or a better than average pulled pork or ribs.

Speaking of ribs, nobody around here serves you a whole rack of ribs, but the average idiot doesn't know what a whole rack of ribs equates to. Sad.

I had a prime rib at Fatz for Father's Day. It only cost almost $27!!! I would have passed, but being Father's Day i splurged. First and last time.
