Saw in both local papers yesterday an advert concerning a 29-30 June fundraiser for three seriously injured individuals.

Does anyone know the circumstances of the injuries or some background information?

The fundraisers want $100 per raffle ticket and $75 per couple for the "Casino Night". Seems a mite pricey for Blue Ridge; just wondering....

One is paralyzed, one still in a coma...medical bills astronomical. No need to start gossip or bash any families...either you can/will help or you can't/won't. There is a number provided in the advertisement should you have any questions. This isn't the place to ask. I will be purchasing a ticket b/c I am blessed beyond measure & have learned to share with others in need. It isn't my place to judge or question. At least one family involved has been a member of the community for 25 years & has helped several families in need. I think it's time that we, as a community, show our gratitude in their time of need.

I know that families may not have any extra money to donate, but I am sure that they could use extra people to volunteer their time & energy help work at the event. Just b/c you can't contribute monetarily, doesn't mean that you don't have a talent or that you can't find a few minutes to call and ask if there's anything that they need help doing that doesn't involve money!

It's about time that we start to come together as a community to help each other out. We have been so divided & this site hasn't helped any. I encourage all who can to pay your blessings forward & be the change that you want to see!

Why so snarky ? Seemed like an innocent enough question to me.

Didn't mean to come off as "snarky". The advertisements have contact info & numbers to call for information, so why come on here & ask... Unless you are wanting to "stir the pot"?

It is really very simple... Either you can &/or will help or you can't &/or won't. Doing our part doesn't always have to be about money or a donation. It is a personal choice of whether anyone feels led or wants to donate or help any way they can. Just look at the thread about the wreck @ Wendy's & see how easy it is to divide a community. Read last week's article in TNO about the little boy whose life was cut short on this earth, but how he helped 4 other families with his organs. That small community in south GA didn't come up here begging for anything or blaming anyone....they came together as a community & surrounded the family with in love & support in their greatest hour of need! That article was written in their local paper( front page headline), but it was buried a couple of pages in TNO. We could all learn a lot from that one incident & how their community has rallied around that family. I just pray that one day BR/Fannin Co will stop the bickering & come together to make this a better place for everyone!!

Here is the thread about the victims of the auto accident:

Wow...calm down...take a chill pill. My simple request for information was certainly no reason for your harshly judgmental, of me at least, reply.

Despite your supposed high level of “blessedness,” you are not the supreme ruler of this forum dictating who and what can be discussed. Given the abysmal state of the local media, this forum does provide a grain of truth once in a while.

My simple request for info could not be answered at the City of Blue Ridge phone number included in the fundraiser ad, therefore the topix request.

My questioning the fundraising amounts is based on a realistic appraisal of Fannin County’s income levels, median income, poverty rates, SNAP usage, and other indicators that could possibly doom the fundraising efforts to lower than expected results. Perhaps a lower entry figure would ensure more participation from those less blessed.

I have no need for pills, thank you, & it appears that you have taken my comments out of context. As I stated, we don't have to give monetarily.... Obviously you aren't aware that there is a whole other population to Fannin Co/Blue Ridge, that is being taxes without representation. The population that I am speaking of are 2nd homeowners who happen not to claim this home as a primary residence, but who spend a lot of time here & have made many friends through the years. It makes no difference of income level, what does matter is that each of us give of our talents to help those in need. Just b/c a person is on SNAP doesn't mean that they don't have something beneficial to offer. I will say it again... Not everyone is able to give monetarily! If you would like to help this family & don't have the means, then call & leave your info & I'm sure someone will call you back & let you know how you can help!

I'm not being judgmental, just stating the obvious. There are all kinda of ways to help....how about posting flyers in different locations, handing out flyers at work, at the grocery store, PO....anywhere that you happen to see someone.

These families have a long road to recovery, I am not interested in going to the "casino night", but I will pay for my husband & me to attend, so maybe you & a friend can go in our place. This is simply about helping these families any way that we can, it shouldn't be about criticizing the amount for participation.

These fundraising 'raffles' that various groups have are illegal in Georgia unless they are registered with the county sheriff and if the group is a 501c3 but who wants to be the one to rat them out to the DA? Not me. But I can see the possibility for scams too so I guess that is the reason.

Local Observer you need to get a grip. The person just asked a simple question and made the comment that it seems pricey. We would rather hear more info about the event and circumstances of the injured people instead of your tirade about the price. And I sure don't want to keep hearing you pat yourself on the back because you are buying tickets and not going. Makes me wonder if you are buying them for the right reason ... or do you just want to be able to brag about it. You have lost all credibility with me!
