We recently purchased a cabin out in the woods (at least 8 miles from town) and we have 3 small dogs (hounds). We bought here because we wanted a place for them to run and play. We live near a creek and they love to wade and chase each other around. They are all rescue dogs and this is paradise to them. Recently our neighbors told us there is a leash law even out here in the woods but we see dogs running and playing everywhere. She has already said that she does not like dogs so is she telling the truth or just making this up? We want to obey the law but we also want our beloved pets to have the joy of running free. thanks

Call Animal Control, and see what kind of information you get from them. Good Luck.

Fannin probably has a web site. Union Co.'s web site is great and packed with good info, Fannin's is probably the same. If not, check with the Welcome Center, look for the small sign on 515.

The GA.“leash law” states: an ‘at large’ dog is off the owners property , unrestrained, & or not under
control of the owner. When we moved up here, with 2 Black Labs who are always under voice & hand signal control, evidently, some concerned neighbor called animal control. We were walking on the gravel road we live on, & as always, when I hear a vehicle, the dogs immediately move onto the shoulder of the road & sit until released( by voice). The Animal Control truck slowly drove by,( current rabies tags were plainly visible on collars) & the driver waved, & commented:“Nice dogs”.
So called “locals”( guess anyone who has lived here more than 8 months) are the very first to cry “There’s a leash law in this county!” All my true native (born here) friends & neighbors have welcomed us, including the dogs.

Not having your dogs on a leash appear as a good way to get them shot
