Carl Davenport came at Earley with a shotgun. He was not an innocent man. Earley did what he had to do to protect his own life. That does not make him a murderer. All the garbage that has been posted about this incident could possibly cause Earley to hesitate next time, which could cost him his life. You people need to think about that and in the meantime, keep up the good work Deputy Earley. Great job Sheriffs Office on the successful rescue of these children!!
"Came at" is your (and no doubt Earley's) defination and may or may not be what actually happened, personally I don't believe it because it makes no sense in the larger context. Who would call 911 and then go outside with a gun with the purpose of shooting a police officer? I believe the Boys in Blue are going to tend to get one another's back regardless of the truth therefore we will never know who "came at" who. And heaven forbid anyone should hesitate before they shoot someone.

This type of incident happens weekly across the country. Would you stand there and let a unknown person point a shot gun at you? No you would not unless you were to scared to be there. He did his job. He too has to live with what happened. Walk in his shoes before you pass judgement.

Ellis tried hanging himself today In jail. On suicide watch now. The charges are piling up on this man. I don't suspect that he'll ever see the outside world again.

No matter what happened with this family it is so sad for all of them, anger can make you crazy see red and do stupid things, a nice family has been destroyed because of stupid actions on both parties and the sad part is the kids who had to see it all.

An unknown person? Earley knew whose yard he was in. You are taking his statement that a gun was pointed at him as fact. I am not. We will never know the truth. Did Early take a lie detector test? If so, are the results available to the public?

If Carl would have shot the deputy would everyone still have blamed Early. Most in here would have. It is plan to see that the people on here will never see it any other way. Matter what else comes out to prove Early was right.

You're freaking straight outside your mind. I've "heard" why he did what he did & I will tell you 100%, ma'am, I would never ever do that to anyone. There is no excuse for what he did, ESPECIALLY when children are involved. Maybe someone should lock you up before that happens to you and you go postal on someone and kill me. Have common sense sweetie.

Carl wouldn't have killed Earley. He called for help. Earley pulled up in a COP car. I'm sure Carl thought okay a cop is here, I asked for them, now let me attempt to make him feel threatened.*sarcasm* it is too bad that Mr. Davenport had to pass away because I'm just about bet you, Mr. Earley would be facing trial.

People who want a career in law enforcement ought be motivated by a desire to help people not shoot them.

Well we can just take the law officers guns like they do in London. When you call 9-11 for help then you will change your mind dumb ass.

. Wouldn't call 911 for help here no matter what the circumstance, don't want to get killed for needing help

I don't remember the exact statistics, but I think England has appromately 100 shooting deaths per year to our 10,000 plus. And, yes, their environment is healthier. I have noticed you are as quick to call someone a dumbass for not sharing your opinions as your beloved LE officer was to shoot someone while taking zero time to assess his intent. What was the amount of time from when he pulled onto private property before he fired ... two minutes? From what I have seen of local law enforcement, they are far more dangerous than our criminals are. Criminals only want to steal your stuff -- not take your life. Just my opinion, of course.

If fifteen stab wounds does not kill you then surgery in Fannin County probably would... just a guess.
I have heard the "New" surgeons from Florida at Fannin aren't very good.... but 15 stab wounds might be a bit tough to fix

I wouldn't let them cut my toenails at Fannin Regional.
