I am so sick of seeing the constant battle about animal control in our county. Its been going on for years now...and its almost comical at this point.

Simple fix, if you own a animal...TAKE CARE OF IT.

If you dont own an animal and it threatens your family...KILL IT.

I have pets and they are well taken care of. If I didn't care for my pets enough to let them roam around as they please in the neighborhood, then I cant complain when they get killed.

I tell you now, Id shoot any animal that even came close to harming my family without hesitation. If the owner wanted to start shit, Id tell him / her the same thing. If you cherish your pet so much, then why was it running loose?

So much time and effort wasted over this crap.

Wow it's almost like I had written that post. I am battling with animal control right now because of three pitbulls that are running around my house. One of them has snarled at my husband. I have a little girl & another one on the way. I have been to every neighbor around my house to ask if they belong to any of them but no one has claimed them. They're someone's because they look well fed & one has a collar on. Animal control will not come out to wrangle up these dogs because "we are full so the only thing that we can tell you is to find the owner & talk to them." Really??!! That's your freakin job! I really don't want to kill these animals, mainly because I don't want beef with he neighbors. I guess if they don't care than I don't either. Someone is about to be without three dogs though. I take care of my dog & keep him fenced up. I'm afraid to let him run around the yard half of the time because I'm afraid that the 3 pits will jump on him. At least when he is out, he knows his parameters.

Call Dane Kirby. He said in the newspaper that if animal control won't help that his department will. Can't hurt to try before you have to kill the dogs.

I have a local friend whose dog was choking the other day and then died. He had it tested for rabies. It was possitive. By the time this guy gets his whole family, horses, dogs, cats, etc he will have spent about 5K. He could have vaccinated his animals for $10 each. People not taking care of their animals and kids should be fined -- seriously fined -- and/or put in jail. That is the only way anything will change. AC should get off their asses and pick up uncontained animals. They are a serious threat to our community health.

Really? I must've missed that article. Animal control is a joke. My dad called them a few yrs ago about a neighbors starving horse & its colt. Animal control wouldn't touch the matter. Why?? My dad offered the neighbor money for the horse & its baby but the neighbor would not sale. You could literally hear their poor stomachs growling. A few days later, the colt died & the neighbor sold the mare to my dad. We named her Lucky! Lol someone does need to take the Animal control down & the human society isn't much better.

Thanks happy camper. I'll definitely try that. Isn't there a leash law in GA or in Fannin at least? I really do not want to kill these animals but when it comes down to protecting my family, I will.

I usually don't comment on here but there is an ordinance about dogs being in a lot. You need to go to Sheriff's office and ask for a copy or better yet have them serve notice to dog owners. Trust me pit bulls are very very dangerous. They do attack children and scar them for the rest of their life. And I am with you on protecting family!

I had a very similar experience with the last horse I rescued with zero help from Fannin AC or the Georgia Department of Ag. We have ordinances in place but there just are not enforced. Bureaucrats eat donuts. Volunteers get 'er done!

Why are pitbulls more dangerous than any other dog? Get a clue, stop spreading untrue rumors and soaking up all the media BS. Punish the deed not the breed.

Shoot the dogs! Why would any sane person wait until the dogs hurt someone? Pits are dangerous dogs especially if they haven't been trained.
Part of the problem with animal control is meddling rescue people who don't want any dog to die. Dogs that are loose are dangerous and they need to be disposed of.

You are absolutely right about that. Fannin appears to be on the verge of turning over control to Jan Eaton of both animal control and issues related to the feral cat population always has been a big problem and is becoming increasingly more of a problem,(what a surprise!). That is going to be a major "step on your weinie" decision. Animal Control has never wanted responsiblity for cats because they know how many they will have to put down (always more than last year, dub). Rescue will not tolerate any cats being euthanized. She will insist they all be caught, spayed, neutered and returned to whereever they were .... that would be criminal in my mind if they don't at least also get rabies shots. Who is paying for all of this and what is the point of it?

If you shoot any dogs be sure to do it when no one is around, then bury them deep so you don't get caught. That is what ranchers do with the wolves rescue nuts released there. They call it, "shhot, shovel, and scram". They were losing thousands from wolf damage to the herd and never could collect anything from the government "replacement funds" program.

Do you not remember Winston Cross and his legal fight with his neighbors who refused to contain their dogs who kept chasing his cattle. He had pictures of his dog bitten and torn up cattle. He shot a few dogs. He ended up in court. I cannot even imagine what his legal fees were. Animal Control did almost nothing to help him.

The reason pits are so dangerous is the amount of strength they have and how they have been bread over the years. They are very good dogs in the right hands.

They absolutely cannot run around loose. Their ability to chomp down is too inbred and serious. You cannot hardly pry open their jaws with a crowbar. A vet once told me about someone coming into his office with the dog still clamped down on his leg ... the dogs teeth had to be removed to free the person... not making any of that up.

BREAD is what I have with peanut butter and jelly.

You are right. I've had one of my dogs attacked by our son's Pit. If these dogs are threatening people, why wait? Shoot them and dispose of the bodies. No need to discuss it any further or ask for permission. Just do it or wait until one attacks one of your kids.

Pit bulldogs are no more dangerous than any other dog. You can make any dog mean and that's just the way it is. It is all in how you treat a dog if you raise them to be kind and gentle that is how they will always be. OR you can teach them to be mean and they will attack any and everything including their owner. Pits just get a bad rap because of STUPID people. A pit will be your best friend and your biggest protector just like any other dog. ONCE AGAIN IT DOESN'T MATTER WHAT BREED ANY DOG IS THEY CAN ALL BE MADE MEAN. I have dealt with many pits and they are all great dogs.

I think all of you people who are sayin kill the dogs should not be allowed to have a dog. That is animal cruelty. All of my animals are treated like babies and spoiled rotten and NO they do not stay locked up or on a leash i live on 300 acres and they run free. They have the freedom to do what they want .

Your dogs have the freedom to do what, pack up with other dogs, leave your property, get into your neighbor's trash or bother their animals, add to the existing overpopulation problem, spread rabies and other diseases ... all of that and more? Here are two facts you do not seem to understand. 1) Dogs have about the ability to supervise themselves as a two year old human, and 2) their typical roaming/hunting range is five miles. When you "babies" are taken in my someone who assumes they are homeless or hit by cars or destroyed by feral packs you will squawk that they were stolen.

Like i said i live on 300 plus acres my dogs do not leave my property. They do not get into my neighbors trash or both anyone else's animals. They do not add to the existing overpopulation problem because the females have been spayed and the males have been neutered. They do not spread rabies they get there yearly rabies shots and they do not have any other diseases they get regular vet check ups. And for you info my dogs are smarter than any 2 year old and smarter than some adults i know. Once again my pets do not leave my property at any given time so i do not have to worry about them being mistaken for homeless animals or hit by a car or destroyed by anything. My pets also get fed better than most people , they eat steak, ribeye, beef, chicken, pork, they love vegetables and all fruits.

and another thing my pets do not pack up with other dogs. So obviously you do not know any facts at all. And another thing my dogs are spoiled and that is ok. they eat better than most humans and sleep on better beds than a lot of people. They all have have the temper-pedic beds for dogs. My horses are all so spoiled rotten. There barn has heat and air. They get top of the line food as well. They have free roam of the 300 acres as well as free roam of the 3,000 acres my dad owns.
