Does anyone have a thought about our customer fee going up. After reading our new General Manager's interviews in various publications I can't see that Nelms has come up with a better plan. He states that "the customers are using less power so we have to charge more". If the members couldn't afford the old rate and used less power why should we still have to pay for bad business decisions that were made and are still being made? Is this our reward for conservation. Other EMCs in surrounding counties are doing well and sending rebates back to their members. Their rates are better too. They still manage to give back to the local communities and support various youth programs. What gives?

Do we have any other choices for power companies? Are does BREMC have us by the short hairs?

They do as they please. The members have made a difference by changing the employees. Does anyone know how long they have been buying power from TVA? I think that's the problem. Only 3 of the EMCs in GA buy from them.

TVA provides 8% of the power in it's service area. Creation of TVA provided lots of construction work with the resulting bureaucratic boondoggles including the graft, greed, and corruption of large government level bureaucracies but hydro power is very low maintenance and mostly automated so no follow on capability for more graft, greed, and corruption, e.g. BRMEMC so ... it isn't used.

Also recall that TVA did considerable destruction of whole communities, private homes, roads, etc. some of which has never been corrected to this day.

If you would have elected Malone for Emc board a couple of years ago rates would have gone down, service would be better, and the business would operated like a well oiled machine.

Pat Malone said rates would rise unless he was elected and nobody listened. You all allowed the race to be stolen from Pat

Anyone else notice the overwhelming majority of new trucks they have this calendar year? The majority of the trucks they had weren't worth servicing and had to be replaced? Also, these guys are still hiding at Hughes gas station first part of their shift and they hide in that Lakewood hole on Arbor Acres Farm Rd or whatever it's called.

The whole shift eats at cooks on a daily basis, hope there isn’t a major issue because I am sure they wont miss a meal.

It is easy to criticize them when things are going well, but in the middle of the night, on a weekend or holiday, when weather is at its worse..........they are out there risking life and limb to keep your lights on.

I agree, but we are paying them All The time. The EMC needs to use them to improve the costs to customers. I have watched the guys in the Trucks and sometimes they don't appear to have direction.

Do you eat lunch and breakfast? You people always butch at something. Nelms is terrible but the employees do a good job and do their job and go home. Lately they’ve been going back to work when they’re supposed to be off to fix your power. Same thing with the phone/cable company. The employees are just doing their job trying to fix service. The utility workers can’t help the weather!

I don't think that the problem is with the linemen. It goes back to Terry Taylor, former President and
manager Matthew Atkins. I wonder why they decided that TVA was the best provider of electricity when most of Georgia's EMCs don't use them. Something smells bad about this deal and that was about the time the rates started going up years ago. The audit only went back a few years "to give Nelms a clean slate". An audit wouldn't show payoffs but tax records on property owned by the offending parties probably do like the Gowder brother's did. It's no fun to have money if you can't spend it.

TVA has been the provider since the beginning. You do know that the lakes around here came into being because of the REA right? The dams are all TVA operated and until very recently the lakes were fully controlled by the TVA.

And they did this out of the goodness of their hearts for their members? I would imagine that the members have paid as though they were made of liquid gold. Maybe Nelms should consider how some of the other more successful EMCs are run and where they get their power. It would probably improve member's attitudes and satisfaction. I mean the reason for the latest rate hike is because members conserved. How much longer do we have to pay off the mansion, do you know?
