Was in downtown Blue Ridge for the festival and had an incident with one of the local shop owners. The law was obviously broken and I called the police. While waiting for the police to arrive I was informed by several nearby citizens that the police wouldn't do anything because the shop owner was "friend$" with them. Sure enough, when the police arrived they treated ME like the bad guy and didn't even listen to the multiple witnesses. I was amazed! I guess if you have money in Blue Ridge then the laws do not apply to you.

The same could be said for any location.

Well....what happened?

Don't use specific names and it isn't slander.

Local cops get away with murder, literally.

What law do you believe was broken?

I'm not going to go into specifics that could lead to my identification in fear of retaliation. I will tell you that I have a cabin in Blue Ridge and have been bringing my family for over 5 years. I frequent the downtown area and have spent a ton of money over the years here. I have never had an issue with anyone. Until yesterday I have loved the town and the people. The way I was treated yesterday was absolutely atrocious though and ruined the weekend for my entire family. We decided last night not to renew our lease on the cabin next year. I appreciate the hospitality of the townspeople over the past 5 years but after yesterday I no longer feel safe being seen in town and possibly harassed by the police or friends of the people I had the dispute with. We are genuinely sad to go!

Sorry that happened to you. Please don't judge us all by the actions of a few. Most of these shop owners are not even local. I don't even go near them because they're too expensive. They're mostly aimed at the tourists.

Dont you think if they know your identity it will be in your favor? If they retaliate they will be the first suspect. If you are that concerned I would also consult with an attorney.

Confront them...they cant eat you. Well I guess technically they could......but highly unlikely.

Well, unless they're named 'Jeffrey Dahmer'....

Seriously, if you feel you were in the right, you should tell what happened (again, without names ...). You might find others who have had the same problem, which would bolster your claim.

I kind of want to know the story too, I mean it isn't breaking any laws and our police department isn't going to send a hit squad after you.

Just tell what type of business this was and what law was broken. I doubt anyone would be able to track you down either way.

Besides all of that, cataloging the incident might serve some purpose in the future.

All the more reason to do what I intended to do. Keep to myself! Sucks much, when the local cops act like that.
I found everybody lovely when I was there I have to say so maybe just bad luck?
But I'd not let them run me out of town. Stuff em. If all your other experiences have been good, maybe just avoid down town.

I smell a rat (or TROLL) here! First of all, how do you jump to the conclusion that a shop owner has "money" & just what "laws" did this particular owner break?? I know most of the owners & can't imagine any of them breaking any laws....unless of course, they parked in a "no parking" spot w/their flashers on for a few hours while they "unload" their car or parked all day in the 30 minute parking signs!!

If you "have" a cabin in BR, then why do you lease one? Thank you for spending a ton of money in our area & boosting our economy...but it sounds like you are one of the many grumpy tourists that I personally ran into downtowns his weekend! If you are such an expert on the area, you should know what a great job the BRPD does! I have witnessed firsthand how they handle different situations & I have seen nothing but professionalism... Even when they have to respond to ridiculous & frivolous "complaints" from disgruntled individuals like yourself! You are dilusional if you really believe the BRPD has nothing better to do than to harass you. I doubt seriously the business owner would do anything like that either! You don't seem truly sad to go, you seem truly pathetic & desparate for attention to come on this forum & make these accusations & then try to pretend that you're scared of some type of retaliation! "l

There are actually 3 sides to every story...this guy's side, the business owner's side..& then somewhere between we'll find out the "truth"! I am trying to be like Randy... I don't want to judge all tourists/visitors to our area by your childish actions of handling the situation this way. Maybe you should change or add "trouble maker" to your name!

I knew it wouldn't be long before someone like you would comment and start the name calling. If people in your town hate tourists so much then you should shut down all the touristy type stores on main street, don't let the train stop there, and quit having festivals and activities to attract people.

I know the store owner has millions. I know he and his family are locals, born and raised in blue ridge, and I also know from reading reviews of their store on social media that I am not the only person who has had a problem there.(all of this info easily found online) You can bash me all you want, doesn't bother me one bit, it actually furthers my resolve about not wanting to return. Maybe one day the tourists will stop coming to your town since they seem to be looked down upon. So, bash away, call me names, show your true colors. Karma is a @%*+-

At this point I have to add, why get on here and whine about anything if you're not going to tell the f*cking story?

You're absolutely right! I should have never posted here. No point really. Sorry Lanius, I was just upset after the incident happened and I guess this was my attempt at venting. I won't respond on this thread anymore.

I believe you have me confused with others on here that resort to "name-calling", I simply suggested that you add to your name! I don't have a problem with tourists/visitors to our area.... Read my other comments on other posts on this forum & you will see just the opposite from me! My business depends on visitors as well, so I actually welcome any & all....except for the jerks & occasional *#%holes who may visit, but thank goodness, those usually end up purchasing property elsewhere....misery loves company, so they usually find each other.

I see now from your reply, that you are indeed one of "those", you have yet to name the "laws" that we're broken by the business owner...but yet you seem to have a misconception about their personal finances!! It sounds like to me that you may be a stalker of their's & out to gain something...maybe hoping for a frivolous lawsuit against them, since you seem to believe that they have "millions"! You have narrowed down the business owners & I happen to be a local, born & raised here myself, so I will make my way downtown this morning to ask around and inform the few local. "born & raised" business owners, about this thread & get their side of the story! I don't mind being the one to report their side, especially since you obviously are only on here to cause trouble.

This is actually quite comical now, b/c it is becoming quite apparent that the business owners may be the ones who need to be concerned about being harassed by tourists who seem to be targeting them... Since they have "millions"!! I'm just confused on how you came up with the idea that a small business owner in downtown BR has MILLIONS...did you easily find out that info online as well, or did you just go looking...since you have spent "tons of money" in downtown over the past 5 years, to recoup some of the "tons" back from the business owner who has millions??

I wish you well, "Out of toner", but it is tourists like you that ruin it for all the other nice visitors to our area! I am just glad that your true colors are showing now. For every visitor like yourself, there are hundreds of others who come simply to enjoy our little area that we are very blessed to call home!

It's hard to sympathize with you when you don't give any facts. I couldn't even offer you speculation just based on "someone broke the law and didn't get in trouble, but I refuse to say what and who".

Would it shock us to hear this story or are you being vague out of shame?

If you have a problem here, go back to Florida or Riverdale, or wherever. We'll even send one "Horse Lady" (homeless woman standing in the middle of Hardscrabble)with you!

Jokes aside, most people get treated the way they treat others. If you come up here, with an attitude, talk about our weight, the way we talk, or the way they did it where you came from, then, yes, you are going to have problems. But, if you come with a genuine interest in others and are respectful and civil, then you are going to be treated in like manner, at least in most cases. You may even get an invitation to share a beer at the Black Bear with Lanius LeFart!

Let me narrow down your search so that you don't waste your day. I was in the store to buy furniture. as far as me wanting money from somebody, that is laughable. I don't want anything from anybody. Thank you very much for confirming that I chose the correct title for this thread

I'm beginning to think you witnessed some gesture of favoritism or were otherwise not the victim of this crime that you called the police over. Hot or cold here?

As much as I dog cops over shooting people they have always let me slide or chosen not to search me when I have a minor run-in. Probably because of my winning personality.
