Same concept with guns and knives. Should we ban those things too, because they can turn people in dumb degenerates with the capability to kill or maim those around them?
Pray for those involved, help them and quit using this tragedy to further your political viewpoints.
There's the high chance this tragedy would NOT have happened if alcohol had not been involved, along with all the other annual traffic fatalities related to alcohol (look up the stats). Alcohol is a mood altering depressant and can cause: impaired judgment, delayed reactions, shortened attention span, impaired memory and comprehension, blurred vision, impairing of senses, profound confusion, depressed reflexes, impaired speech, cardiovascular disease, malabsorption, chronic pancreatitis, alcoholic liver disease, cancer, cardiovascular disease, impaired fine muscle coordination, sexual dysfunction, osteoporosis, etc. These are not my PERSONAL BELIEFS; they are effects of this mind-altering substance.

Please do not irrationally compare guns with mind-altering substances. A gun does not make someone a 'degenerate'; however, there are some people who definitely should not have a gun in their possession, but a gun does not alter the brain or cause any effects on a gun owner. There is absolutely no logic in saying 'they can turn people in dumb degenerates' when referring to guns. The truth of the matter is, if no one consumed alcohol, a great number of tragedies would have never occurred.

SINCE WHEN DOES ARGUING OVER ON HERE HELP ANYTHING? The ONLY thing it does it make ALL OF YOU seem ignorant and stupid.

THESE FAMILIES NEED PRAYER, not this crap. They need love, and comfort, ans support; BOTH FAMILIES.

Jake knows what he did was wrong. Don't you think he knows that? This child will live with what he has done for the REST of his life. NO, he is not excused, and he surely won't be. But let the police and the families, the authority handle it, not any of us.

As for the Johnson family: STOP posting all of this stuff that you "think" is right. It's not doing any good. Would they be comforted by what they're reading, if they were? Probably not...Pray for them. Show them that you care, instead of condemming everyone. That's God's job, not yours.

For the ones who are posting kind comments and loving on these families, THANK YOU. It warms my heart the the some of this small town community can come together and be amazing in this way.

Most teenagers stupid decisions doesn't take the life of a 6 year old child and endanger the life of 3 more under the age of 10. Laws need to be tougher to combat stupidity on the roadways and an example needs to be set. If we just let this sack of crap off with a slap on the wrist, the next teen who has a few drinks and steps into a vehicle will think, well if I kill someone I'll get off pretty damn easy.
He took a life. A life that will never get to happen. A 6 year old with no chance at a future ever because of him and his "stupid" mistake.
Stupid doesn't even begin to comprehend what he did. He's a murderer. He doesn't deserve to be free.
I have not seen one post, and certainly not Nathaniel's, that suggest this boy should get off with a slap on the wrist or less. everyone agrees he should be punished severely .. but no one has the right to make that judgement but a jury, judge, and God, and I bet when it comes down to it, and we stand before God, most every person who has been hateful, and mean, and unforgiving will have to answer for having drank and driven at sometime in their life, and just got lucky enough not to hurt themselves or someone else,or to have not be caught... wouldn't surprise me at all if the ones that are the most critical and judgemental have dui's under their belt.. and as adults instead of as a child.... HE DID NOT MURDER ANYONE, murder is intentional..this was not intentional..it was a horrible bad choice made with tragic results.. when i think of what he has to be feeling, the hurt and regret, the sorrow and fear, i feel like my chest is caving in... I know he has to be punished, and he will be, my God people, do you want God to judge you with the same type of judgement you are juding this boy? maybe you should read the LORDS PRAYER...

I'm sorry but its as intentional as loading a gun and going somewhere when you consume alcohol and get into the car. Couple that with the inexperience and lack of ability to operate a vehicle a 16 year old already has.

He made the mistake and he needs to pay a SEVERE price for it. He needs to be an example that Georgia is going to be tough on teen drivers that are reckless and carefree.

And yeah maybe the act of murder requires premeditation but how premeditated can you get when you get into a 2 1/2 ton bullet traveling nearly 2 miles a minute after drinking 5 years before you are legal to drink and launch the said 5000lbs bullet into the rear of a minivan, killing 1 and severely injuring 3 more under 10 years old.

I'm sorry but its complete bullshit to those who are saying how hard it is on the Lee family.

How dare you be so fucking selfish to attempt to compare what there reckless idiot kid did to the lives he took and the many he hurt due to his poor ability to think rationally.

No I am not a poor excuse for an adult. I'm a rational parent who gets scared shitless every time I get onto the roadway due to idiotic actions by people just like this Lee guy.

I don't feel bad and think you are truly in need of some help if your chest feels like its caving in over what this Lee boy is feeling. He took a life, deprived children of many good and fun years. Darkened the souls and hearts of a little bit of anyone close to this family.

I'm sorry but the 10-15 years that comes standard in the state of Georgia is not good enough. That could have been my family. My children in that car. It could have been your family, your children in that car. 15 years does not satisfy. Anything short of him gettting out of jail before he is in his mid to late 40s just isn't good enough. Deprive him of his good years in life.

I may be cold and say the things that are tough and hard to hear but this child committed an egregious act of violence and has forever mutilated the heart and soul of a great deal of people and an example needs to be set that teen driving for one and teen dui for 2 is in no way acceptable.

Living with it for the rest of his life isn't enough. His family is not going thru near as much and honestly where else do you turn. People say he is a good kid. He had no issues getting some alcohol and go for a triple digit cruise down 515 did he? Obviously something in him told him that that was acceptable. Why at 11:30 did his parents not know what he was doing, even at 18 my parents had to know where I was and what I was doing and when I'd be home and called to check in quite frequently. Did his family just not give a shit? They may put on a nice face for the public but something is definitely off.

I can't beleive anyone would attempt to step up to the plate and talk about character when its pretty much established how he had no problem rocketing a 5000lbs vehicle thru a van under the influence of alcohol.

And to the quote about drinking and driving that was so ignorantly spelled drank(its not spelled the same way ignorant redneck speak pronounces it). What will we all have to answer for? I can attest myself that I for 1 never participated in the act of drinking and driving, never had an open container of alcohol in my car unless you count a sealed bag with a bottle of wine the way Olive Garden makes it legal to transport. The handful of times at dinner that we have had wine, it hasn't been enough to diminish ability but thru the good teaching of good parental figures I still worry about the very thing and make sure to walk to a nearby store and burn an hour to let the 1 glass of wine or 1 beer I had with my dinner wear off or if that isn't the case we don't have alcohol.

I'm sorry that you are so white trash that you can't handle the truth that this boy needs to be punished very hard, but I am not sorry for my statements. This boy took a life way way too early and his adult life need be spent in State Prison.

I admit my first reaction to this tragedy mirrored yours. However, simplistic responses of condemning this young man out right are inappropriate. We do not have all the FACTS yet. At the very best, he is guilty of reckless driving, speeding? And at worst DUI. Regardless, I suspect he is currently living in an internal hell that would "satisfy" any one on here. I am praying for both families and I pray I can never truly understand the pain they are going through. I have discussed this with my teenage son and told him that obviously this young man did not set out that day to hurt anyone, but as a result of his apparent poor judgement (on how many levels, we do not yet know) the lives of many people have been irreparably changed - a beautiful little life has been lost, others injured and two families are in great pain. Our actions have consequences and I am confident this young man will face those appropriate to the facts. But please remember he is a 16 year old, I am not making excuses - I am simply cognizant of the fact he is still in many aspects a child, but one who will now face the serious consequences of his choices. He and his family do not need to be pilloried on here by people who know nothing about them ( as I admit, I don't)...

This forum has been alternately depressing with the venom spewed and uplifting with the compassion shown - but I think I will stop and just wait for the whole story to come out. May God in His Infinite Mercy hold both families in his hands.

You should visit the caring bridge website. You should also seek anger management therapy. You are a hypocrite if I have ever seen one. One glass of wine is driving while under the influence. I can say I have never had even a sip and driven. I also believe in compassion and I may one day find myself in this situation. I am a mother. I would be devastated on either side. Now I believe I would be devastated on either side. We have a loving, gracious, forgiving God maybe you should read Mathew Ch. 7.
Please visit the caring bridge website the family has posted. They really need your prayers, not venom and hatred. They are who we should all be focused on. Please refrain from name calling and other hateful words. There is no need for profanity or anything else. Please take the familiy's advice and be kind and thoughtful. I understand you are offended, we all are, please try not to be so hurtful to these families. You are in no way giving anyone comfort. Please try and be more tactful. People from that little girl's family are reading this blog, and they have asked for comments like yours to stop.

And as far as the rest of your post where you actually showed some form of intelligence and ability to type despite a clear lack of reading comprehension.

I have visited the site. I check in daily but I am not going to stop until this boy's penalty comes out and he is locked behind bars. If I have to I'll stand outside his trial with signs asking for no remorse from the sentencing judge. This child did not just make a mistake. A mistake is backing into a tree. getting into a fight. This kid launched a 5000lbs vehicle traveling near 100 MPH thru a van killing a child. The family shouldn't read my posts. I don't intend harm but I do intend to make it a point that teens drinking and driving is more than stupidity, Its more than a mistake. It takes lives. Had this boy some form of stable guidance and parents who took interest in seeing the type of people he befriends, maybe this 6 year old child and the family wouldn't be so devastatingly injured and killed any longer.

I will attack the parents. WHERE THE HELL WERE THEY? Your MINOR child is out screwing lives up. I'm sorry but as much as his parents are going thru and as much as you don't want to hear it, they need to know at some point they failed. Allowing their child to fall in with the wrong group of people, not putting in the child that the act of drinking and driving is bad.

And to the one above asking the charges? No its not just reckless driving, speeding, and dui. Open Container. Underage Consumption. Vehicular Homicide. Manslaughter. super speeder violation, failure to maintain lane, if reports are true that there is evidence of him hitting guardrails going down the highway.

Sorry but here are some facts that are out:

A 6 year old girl is dead. 3 Siblings in bad condition.
A 16 year old child with an open container in his vehicle caused the crash.
Police seen this and was in pursuit of this car at what some approximate at nearing or over 100MPH.

Living in hell mentally may do it for you but this country has laws and we need to severely penalize severe and extreme cases and this is what I would classify as one of those. Teen thinks he is invincible and takes lives of others for it. Family is "good" and he played football so lets give him a break. GIVE ME A BREAK.

I guess you can't honor the family's wishes. I will no longer feed your fire. Good night and good luck with raising your children. I pray you never find yourself on either side of this battle. My thoughts and prayers will be with the Johnson and Lee families tonight. May the Lord be with them tonight, tomorrow, and forever.

I hope that if your child is ever in Jake's situation you will show him/her love and compassion, and that the community will also. So sad.

Now where am I a hypocrite? Where did I ever admit to driving under the influence of even 1 glass of wine. Even so your lack of dui knowledge astounds me as you can have .08 BAC or less in your system. Myself, I am held to an even higher standard of .04 BAC having a commercial license and all.

No its not sad for Jake. Jake took a life thru insane, reckless, inhuman actions. Jake doesn't deserve a free life any longer.

I would forever love my child but I can love him from inside a jail cell if he were to ever be in this situation. I can feel slightly sorry but will never think he doesn't somehow deserve better.

This child took the life. If the family doesn't like reading my posts I'm sorry but maybe its not the family and the family would actually be worrying about a lot more than checking on topix web forums all day long. I will not be silenced by anyone here who wants to be feeling sorry for Jake. Jake doesn't deserve remorse, sorry, any emotion other than anger and public outcry and personally he should have to deal with it. He did this and now he gets to wear those big boy pants. Untouchable on July 1st. He can atone for it publicly now. not for others who need to fight in his name. You have no ground to stand on.

You are right. I just had an awakening. Maybe you should trade your commercial license in for a teaching certificate. You might want to learn about the comma first. Maybe you can teach the local DUI school.

Wait no, I was wrong! You look like a real winner here. Picking on kids and women. Your children will probably be seeing some psych doctor because of "daddy issues". You should really take a look at yourself. You are ranting and raving like charlie sheen. While you are protesting and holding signs outside the sentencing make sure you drink lots of water. You don't wanna get to dehydrated. It is hot outside. Your a joke! Maybe you haven't noticed everyone on here thinks your nuts.

Are you really going to attempt to correct my use of a comma when you say "Your a joke!"? That would be You are or You're not Your. Your is a possessive word.

I don't give a shit what everyone here thinks. Everyone here seems to want to baby a child killer. "he is just a child" bullshit. I don't care. He took the life of a child and he doesn't want to be free. If you are so worked up over someone on the internet maybe you need to seek help from a "psych doctor" as you earlier quoted. Curious would that be a psychiatrist or a psychologist?

I don't care what your opinion is. One day, regardless of how many friends and enemies I make along life's path, my child will be able to say that their parents stood for what is right and basic common sense.

You can't just get in a vehicle at 16, get drunk and go kill people and expect everyone to coddle you like a little baby. He was big and tall when he got his license. When he took those drinks and got into a vehicle with open containers and started driving down the road. Now he can stand like a man and take heavy punishment for it and know that there will always be people out there who know that he has taken life and will not ever let him forget about it. His family needs to know that you gotta do better in teaching the children and make sure the children your children are hanging out with are as well brought up as your own.
