Hello all, I have spent the last week and a half thinking about what I would post here....I still have no plan, so I'm going to just type, in hopes the right person sees this.

On July 12, my parents were in a motorcycle accident across from the funeral home, close to Fannin Regional.

Words cannot express the sinking feeling one gets when you get a phone call from your father's phone with an unfamiliar voice at the other end telling you your parents have been hurt, and you need to get to the hospital immediately. I'll get to that in a minute....

Now the point of my post. My mother remembers nothing, but my dad remembers everything. And he remembers the SUV in front of him locking up his/her brakes, to the point of smoking tires. He also remembers the split second he made the decision not to slam into the back of YOUR vehicle, but chose instead to try to lay the bike down causing the least amount of injury to my mother, as well as YOU. And he also remembers how YOU DIDN'T BOTHER TO STOP!!

It was not "legally" your fault, why didn't you stop? Didn't you care to know if they were dead or alive? The image of my mother laying face down on the pavement haunts him every day, does it not haunt you? Do you know what it feels like to drive for hours to another state not knowing if your parent is dead or alive? What kind of person are you? What kind of person doesn't stop?

Fortunately, though injured, they are both alive and I thank God for that every day....and I am so thankful to the Georgia State Patrol, Sheriff's Department, Fannin Regional, Erlanger, and all the transport staff who took care of them.

And I will forgive the person driving that SUV, and I will hope you never suffer the same loss, but I will never understand your actions.

I do hope someone on this board knows this person and can pass this along.

Sadly, the justice system is broken and all about politics. We have become way too much about forgiveness and mopping up after others and not nearly enough about justice and holding ourselves and others to a standard of behavior that means something. That is exactly why we have so many unresolved lawsuits, children needing foster care, animal control facilities stuffed full of discarded animals, and churches full of fakes looking for free forgiveness.

At minimum, the SUV driver should be compelled to pay your parent's hospital bills and your travel and lodging expenses and time missed from work thru no fault of your own and a big fine for leaving the scene of an accident.

I am so sorry for your distress and their pain. This is a tiny community and someone will know who was driving that SUV and hopefully they will call the sheriff's office instead of protecting the driver.

The only time I ever SMOKED my brakes I was hauling 8 horses when some fool parked her car in front of her mailbox right in the highway. I had no place to go around and stood on my brake pedal with both feet. Thank God the horses stayed on their feet, the trailer did not jackknife, and I didn't hit anyone. I wanted to stop and punch her, but I would have been the one arrested due to the aforementioned twisted justice.

Im sorry I cant help you :(
Im not local, but moving there soon..

I am glad your folks are doing ok now, and sorry that you had to go through that.
Id like to think, though doubtful, that the driver may not have looked in his rear view mirror?
ITs sad to think somebody would see this and not even bother to stop and see if they were OK....

Disappointed, I don't have any info for you, either; sorry! But, I am so happy to hear they both survived the crash. I have wondered since then about the person(s) on that bike. We live close to where the accident happened. I remember traffic being diverted after the accident, and I could see the bike but had no idea that someone actually survived. Great news!

I really hope someone will be able to identify that SUV, however, this being a high tourist area...chances are slim.

I am sorry but some people doesn't have any concern or compassion for others. Like the one said they may not of looked in rear view mirror but if I were to slam on my brakes like that, that's the first thing I would have done. I'd wanna know if someone was about to hit my rear end. I'm glad your parents are ok and that's the most important but I do understand how you feel. Enjoy every moment because you don't know when it's your last. God bless

Thank you all, I appreciate the feedback and well wishes. We'll probably never know who it was....I just needed to say something and felt this was the best place to do it.

Maybe at the very least, someone who reads this will be more careful, or help someone in need on the road.

I sincerely appreciate you all reading my post!

Keep an eye on this thread Disappointed. You never know, you may get some feed back, and somebody may know something...
As sogal said too, lots of people visit there for the mountains. So it may have been somebody from out of town..

I feel for you're dad reliving seeing you're mom like that. IT must be very hard. I know the feeling of seeing somebody hurt you love, and not knowing if they will be ok...
Like I said before, glad they are doing better and I hope in time, that the memory will fade..
All the best to you, and you're parents :)
