I think that I will never vote for the overbearing commission chairman again. I did twice but the 3rd time, shame on me. He should represent all and be polite to all. I dont even own a dog but commend people for volunteering their time and effort. The last they deserve is sarcasm for their efforts. As far as the hungry school children comment, just go look at what those kids dont eat and gets thrown out everyday. And every child is also fed breakfast for free every morning should they desire. Pretty much looks like a bunch of uninformed people just throwing comments around. There is always a way to reach a solution if the parties work together. That means there will be some give and take on both sides. But in a dictatorship there is no give and take. I believe the quote was" This is over folks." But like I said, I dont have a dog, so I dont have one in this fight. All I have is a vote.

It has been exactly this way for the 16 years I have lived here. The humaniacs will go to outrageous lengths to keep animals from being euthanized and the commission is overbearing, uninformed, and unhelpful. A dog cannot live in a kennel for long periods of time because it makes them nuts. Even when space isn't needed at the AC, they cannot just stay there. A kennel is not a home. The real solution is always ignored. It lies in the creation and enforcement of animal control ordinances that mean business and punish people for irresponsible animal care. Letting an unneutered male be uncontained should be an automatic fine of $100, a fine of $200 for an uncontained dog or cat that isn't vaccinated for rabies would help "encourage" people to get their pets vaccinated. Vaccinating for rabies is a state law and of the 10 stories in the paper I have read about dogs being exposed to rabid raccoons only was vaccinated. A fine system would go a long way toward changing the careless way people treat their animals. Both the animal activists and the commission is approaching this problem ass backwards. I talked to them all about it until I turned blue and then just gave up. They refuse to understand the flow has to be stopped further upstream. I would open a hot line for people to report pets running around loose, pick them up and make the owners pay serious fines. Every one of these dogs pictured in the paper for adoption were owned by someone who failed to be responsibe for them. That should not be ok. And of course the ever increasing cat population is being completely ignored because so many would have to be put down. Cats also carry rabies.
