So ive been unemployed for 3 months now and thankfully I am on unemployment but I am the type of person that doesn't like to ride the unemployment train any longer than I have to. So I have been out looking for a job....any job. I have been to all the factories around and nothing. Goldkist, Kismet, Whitepath Fabtech, and I even have an app in at the new aerospace plant coming into jasper. I have a platinum plus work ready certificate and I would do just about any job. The only jobs I have seen in the paper have been for medical which I know nothing about. There was one in there for a cook but im sure thats minimum wage and Im probably making more on unemployment than what I would bring home on a job like that.

Any suggestions? Ive been looking at the newspapers for Fannin and Gilmer. I have also been to the Department of Labor website almost everyday. Nothing....

Unemployment is barely keeping my family afloat. We have cut back on everything we dont need to have but we will soon go into debt with a good chance of losing our car and home.

I understand the value of a job... there just aren't any around!

Dear jobless,

There are alot of people that are walkeing in the same shoes that you are. My family has it's own business and it maybe one job a week or sometimes more or sometimes none. This is a horrible feeling and I know that we are not suppose to worry, but it is very hard not to.

Everyday in my devotion it has been about leaning on God and not giving up. This is the only thing that we can do. I believe that if we do what we are suppose to by looking for work and seeking God,we will come out on top. I just try to remember the scripture that says God will supply our needs. Keep looking and good luck.

I know what you mean. I live in Copperhill but have to work in Chattanooga. That drive gets to you so I spend some nights in the city with family. Wish I could find a job closer to home.

Volkswagon has add in the Chattanooga paper taking online applications for their new plants that is to be built there. Or we could all just sit around here and watch all the illegal taking our jobs, while the locals draw unemployment until it runs out. That is what I do not understand-we are subsidizing the Mexican government with the 26 Billion they sent home last year tax free-while our US citizens watch idly by as they take our jobs, and expect us to live on what $330.00 per week-smells fishy to me..............

yeah the VW plant is only taking applications for those who have a background in robotics and such right now. I do keep a close eye on their website. Ill take a 3rd shift back breaking job as long as I had a job.

All I can do is keep looking everyday and maybe I will get lucky before the car and house gets pulled from us.

I normally dont get into politics very much but its irritating to see nothing on the news except for this health reform bill and what the president is doing with it and well... I mean how can we afford healthcare (private OR public) when the jobless rate is at an all time high?

Yeah, I just love hearing about how the economy is getting better from the major news networks and the government. Even though foreclosures are up and more people are losing their jobs every month, everything is just peachy keen. I'd like to see them in some of our shoes for a while.

there's a plant is Jasper that is hiring if you have been through the work ready program @ the DOL $9.00 per hour starting out. However, most of whom have been referred have preferred to "draw" rather than work, but does not hurt to pass on the info

Try contacting some of the cabin rental companies in the area. Most are always looking for people to maintain cabins.

Our Lord Jesus gave that we may have in abundance. You must look at your current situation as "temporary". Trust us, we've been there and in times of depair, the only thing that sustained us was the knowledge that Jesus is with us. DON'T GIVE UP. KEEP BELIEVING AND KEEP FIGHTING!!

So true Bill. Those Mexicans ALSO believe Jesus will provide for them and their families.
Maybe the fact that they have no access to "drawing" makes them more willing to work for less??
Maybe God is sick and tired of lazy, fat, handout -seeking Americans.Maybe he wants them to suffer a bit and come down to earth ??
Really I don't have the answers but I do know that you better figure out a way of employing yourself.Start your own business and find out how hard it is.Employers are a endangered species. And next year our dear government is ending some tax breaks that are going to make things worse.

If you think mexicans get paid less , think again. i was working construcion for $9 an hour while the mexicans the contractors were bringing in were getting $11 an hour, under the table of course. A mexican now has my job because my former employer knows he wont sue if he gets hurt on the job.

The Mexicans are worth paying more - when you're the one doing the paying. In unskilled and construction type jobs they probably have double the productivity of the Americans - and they complain a lot less and don't go around with the sense of entitlement all the other workers have. They don't call in sick on "deer huntin'" opening day and are just a lot lower maintenance in general. Too bad your average American worker can't share some of these characteristics - maybe they'd have more work if they did.

Greater productivity is worth paying a little more

I haven't been able to find stable work since 2009.

I'm living in my dad's 10'x'5 dining room. I can build and repair computers, edit photo/video/graphics, I've worked in restaurants, offices, and a metal fabrication shop, have a clean criminal background and driving record, but can't even get a call back from McDonald's. I've got an entire video series on my YouTube channel about it (Network126). I was also interviewed on RT News back in 2011 ("Unemployed 99er speaks out").

I get so jaded and depressed.
